Wow this update is super exciting. I love the chop and ratchet feature and the binary patterns are something that will be so useful. I love the little bonuses like seeing what arp you are on and seeing the notes from an external keyboard. I can’t wait to do the update. Oh and also way to go on the new manual. That looks like it will be so much easier for me and others to follow. Blessings to you and thank you so much for doing all these updates for free. You are amazing. A true genius too !!! 😊

I had surgery in two places on my left hand 5 weeks ago and it put a major damper on all things music but with occupational therapy and big compliance on my part doing all the home exercises (and unfortunately one more cortisone shot ) I’m doing so much better. Am starting to do music more and looking forward to getting even better. Can’t wait to use the “new” arp !! :)

Remember there’s a large contingent if the “dawless” crowd that is interested in Midicake , so they don’t always wanna depend on solely the computer . There’s even a “Midicake/ipad” video out by Maria DePaul. Definitely gonna be getting this sometime soon then. Thanks again! Just purchased! It is my only big GAS buy this year. I've been thinking about the ARP for a while. This released clinched the deal. I see it as very complementary to my classic sequencer / keyboard (Novation LP Pro Mk3) with the NDLR. He chain is likely to be LP3 to NDLR, NDLR pad channel(s) to ARP. That is 12 channels of goodness. After reading the new ARP manual, I think the ARP and NDLR will be very completely. Heck, I can also see the ARP as making that *terrible* TheoryBoard I got partially useful. 😅 Very much looking forward to getting the new unit.

Hello, I have a question about the beat repeat/ratchet features. Is it possible to hold a button, and just have the current note held and not pass anything else on that channel until the button is released, similar to the beat repeat on the Kaoss Pad? I have a Pyramid, and this sequencer looks very interesting to me. Thanks for your time!
@midicakemidi
@midicakemidi 27 күн бұрын
You cannot do this currently, but it is certainly a very interesting idea and something we could look at for a future update. I will add it to the feature request list. We do have a feature development on the roadmap that would be able to achieve this result but in a subtly different way. In the mean time you can quickly drop the number of steps or increase the repeats and/or increase the time division, either via the params directly or by assigning those parameters to Macros or external MIDI CC to achieve interesting effects. You can even add modulations for similarly interesting results. Thanks for the input. I hope that answers you question.

If external chords are input (all notes being on unique channels) will the arpeggiated notes exit the Midicake with channel data intact?
@midicakemidi
@midicakemidi Ай бұрын
Great question! Yes, if MIDI Thru is enabled, all MIDI data goes clean through.
@IncorrectDisposal
@IncorrectDisposal Ай бұрын
So MidiCake will strip the channel data from the notes it processes and sends to midi out?
@midicakemidi
@midicakemidi 29 күн бұрын
Sorry, I missed your reply. Technically, ARP doesn't strip any data. It only uses incoming notes to set the Global Chord/Scale (that is the pool of notes from which are builds it's sequences) and let's those notes pass clean through. It then output's it's own notes on the MIDI channel defined for each of the 4 arp tracks. For example the input chord might be on ch 1 and ARP's tracks are set to 2, 3, 4 & 5. So you'll get MIDI note output on 5 channels (including the original chord notes on ch 1) It doesn't have to be though. You can use any MIDI Channels you want. So, if all 4 tracks are on ch 1 and the MIDI Input Channel is 1 and MIDI Thru is ON, then you'll get 4 sequences of notes and the original input chord notes; all on Channel 1. It's very versatile. You just have to be aware that some synths, mono synths in particular, might not behave when they have layered MIDI notes. To combat this, each of ARP's tracks have a MONO Voice Mode. Hope that helps.

Can this think do extended chords, 9ths , 11ths, 13ths?
@midicakemidi
@midicakemidi 29 күн бұрын
ARP has a huge list of chords, up to and including 9ths and many scales too. However, 11ths and 13ths are not listed because they expand beyond a single Octave and ARP's global Chord/Scale (the notes used to generate sequences) only cover the 12 semitones octave range. That said, you can create any custom chord you like, so building 11ths and 13ths is easy. Simply hold a chord button and toggle the notes of the chord. I hope that helps.

I have two issues with Midicake. First, the product seems great and even greater with the update. But I find no shop outside UK here in the EU to buy it. Remember that your - tbh not really nice - price of 320 Pounds is excl. VAT, shipping and import taxes have to be added, and I expect overall costs around 550-600 € via direct order. Second, please make the rhythmic pattern length at least 16 steps. I have a Mininova that has also 8 steps, with dedicated Arp buttons, and this gets boring after not a very long time. I also have the Uno Synth Pro which has 16 steps, which is much better (though the synth's Arp-timing is not good). Note that Nova and Supernova, which were precursors to Mininova, had 8 independent Arps, with at least 16 steps each (or even 32 max, I don't remember), and if I'm not totally wrong, also time bases /divisions with dotted notes. Dotted notes are very much neglected nowadays, except for FX echo timing.

Thank you for your feedback. We do not, currently, use resellers and only sell directly from our website. We are proud to be an independent and innovative maker and simply cannot afford to absorb the 30% markup that resellers expect, without significantly increasing our prices. We support customers in the same way as any reseller and are committed to our 12-month warranty. As detailed in our terms and conditions. We ship using DHL Worldwide, who have proven to be outstanding, both in delivery times and efficient handling of customs fees. Our 3rd party payment systems (Paypal and Stripe) are safe and reliable. I hope it's clear that, given ARP's capabilities, it represents great value and if we were to sell through a reseller you would pay significantly more. Regarding the 16 step patterns. ARP isn't a step sequencer and so isn't limited to just the 8 steps of the Binary Patterns. ARP is a Parametric Sequencer, it is the combination of different parameter values that produce the almost unlimited sequences it is capable of. Both the Binary Pattern (the 8 steps) and the Pattern length can be modulated, meaning that you can create incredibly long sequences without the pattern repeating. The same is true of ARP's Rhythm and Groove patterns which are 16 steps in length. So, unlike a step sequencer or traditional arpeggiator, there is no practical limit to the length of ARP's sequences. It is determined by the parameter combinations and your modulations. Regarding Timing, ARP takes a slightly different approach. It is capable of virtually any time division, simply by selecting the division of a MIDI bar (96 clock ticks). This untraditional approach, combined with the ability to modulate the time division, means you can explore virtually any musical timing. Take a look at the V5 Update videos on our channel for an in-depth look at this approach. I hope you find this information useful and thank you again for your input.

q can you program your own arps using triads for example?
@midicakemidi
@midicakemidi Ай бұрын
Yes, you can. It's worth taking a look at the overview videos. Check out the tutorial playlist or the tutorials on Midicake.com. ARP is a parametric sequencer which means its sequences are determined by the rules that you define, then use the chord machine or an external keyboard to set the global chord/scale. You can create virtually any arpeggios trigger with any chord or scale. Then, of course, modulate those sequences. It's a powerful sequencer but easy to use, once you get the concept.
