Your work is adorable. I love them. A hint you may not know...if you stretch a sturdy rubber band across your glaze container from top to bottom you will be able to wipe your brush directly into the container. Keeping drips off the edges. Thanks for a great vid!

Very useful video. I managed to get some Varathane (am in the UK), was quite pricey. I really like it, it turns out nice and shiny, but am just wondering how you manage to avoid brush streaks on flat pieces. I've tried several really thin coats but I'm still getting fine brush strokes. Loved the video .... and the Storm Troopers!! 🤗😊

Another cheaper alternative is rustoleum ultimate polyurethane. It's in a small can just like the varathane, same 8 ounces and it's also water based. I got mine at ac moore, the original price was 9.99 but i used a 55% off coupon and got it for 4.50. Thanks for review and your earrings are so awesome!

How does it smell, because I use resin ,epoxy,uv and unfortunately my first time was polyurethane resin which is in a big tin can and comes with a little bottle of hardener now let me tell you that #1gave everyone around a headache even though I did it outside #2i had no idea because it didn't say that if you use styrofoam cups to mix you'll find out it will start getting hot fast and eating the cup so I was thinking that this (I just noticed the no oder so that might take away the headache) so maybe it will be a good glaze to use but I'd definitely ask questions first

Hello! I've checked out a few videos on glazes now but yours was definitely the most helpful. I had a question about the glaze you use though! From what I can tell it looks a little shiny, but would you say its super glossy? I'm looking for a bit more of a matte finish (a bit of shine is okay!) but for the life of me I can't find a good matte glaze. Thanks for your time! :>
@HeySarahBernadette
@HeySarahBernadette 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! I don't know what would be good for a matte finish. I do know that the matte version of this finish is NOT recommended for clay. So sorry I can't recommend something. Best of luck!

You can also keep your brushes clean by having 2 small buckets, 1 with soapy water, and the other with just water. Place the brush when you're done with it in the soapy water, then with a gloved hand move the brittles around to work the soap in, then place it in the water bucket and swish it around and then rinse it out under running water (under a tap that don't get much traffic like avoid the kitchen sink, a basement sink or outdoor tap would be better).

I like varathane but i notice polymer clayers never warn each other about it's toxicity.... It's not perfectly safe you have to use a painter's respirator and varnish in a ventilated room or outside. It does have warnings and kids especially should know.

Anne Warwick Hi Anne :) I would let it dry at least a few hours between coats, overnight for a thick coat. (I do two to three thin coats myself). Definitely let the last coat dry overnight before you thread it onto anything. If you can put the bead on something to hold it still while you paint it, like a toothpick for a large bead or a pin for a smaller one, you could try to paint it in one go. Or, like you said, paint one side, let it dry, paint the other. Just be careful to do thin coats with that method so the edges aren't noticeable. Good luck!

After a few weeks Varathane begins to feels "tacky" not super tacky but a little bit and losses the color also. Duraclear Ultra Mate (The one I'm using) preserves the soft touch and doesn't fade. Important: Duraclear also is stronger with water,

I know this is an old post but for people like me just finding it and reading... I read a loooong post about varnish and clay and to cut a long story short, it depends on the clay you're using which varnish works best. This woman did a huuuuge post and study with each varnish on each clay and the Varathane worked best on most, but not all, on a few it was tacky like you mentioned. IT depends which clay you use:)

Mine haven't, but perhaps the pigments in the clay reacted with the glaze? Not sure, but this glaze is meant to seal hardwood floors so it shouldn't yellow or discolor.
