Dumb question? Why use a chest holster with a long barrel revolver. Wouldn’t it be easier to pull that 44 mag out of a hip position.

"If you miss the shot, that bear is eating your lunch" More like he is eating YOU for LUNCH!! I noted only 1 guy got out of the way, if the bear is charging you, even if you kill it, it will land on you, if he is mortally wounded, it can still crush your skull with his jaws.

Holster is to high, use shorter barrel 44 mags. Try Ruger Alaskan or Smith and Wesson Performance Center 44 mag with 2.5 inch barrel.

I'm surprised how many people overlook the .357 Mag and the .357 Sig as a bear defense offering, for 125 dollars I turned my 40 cal into a .357 Sig and I nearly get .357 Mag performance.

@@jonathonkennedy9321 if we compare 357 sig underwood to your 10 mm underwood then what. It cost me 120 for the barrel to fit my Glock, it would cost me another pistol to shoot 10 mm.

The very best "defense" against bears? --Stay out of their space. The wilderness is their home, not yours or mine. --Respect their power. --Leave them alone. Live and let live.

We can clearly see these are autoloader fanboys. They are using a very poor holster for a revolver in my opinion. I carry a 3 inch Smith and Wesson 29 in Bianchi 111 crossdraw in black bear country. In grizzly country, a Smith and Wesson .500 performance center revolver with the classic style 6.5 inch barrel in a standard belt holster. In the way of ammo, I shoot a 275 grain Barnes XPB loaded to 1900 fps. This gives less recoil than the 44 magnum and is basically equal to a 45/70 rifle with factory ammo (300 grain bullet at 1880fps). I have taken several bears hunting and feel pretty confident in placing the shot.

I doubt very much that one of you cowards was surprise attacked and had to defend yourself. More likely an ambush in the unsuspecting bear from a safe distance.
