It’ll go in my recipe-box as “Angie’s Awesome Chocolate Cake” and I’ll always tell the story over the dinner table whenever I serve it. And then, Angie will live on, and everyone will know how much her mother loved her. The coffee is a wonderful ingredient... but it’s the story and the love that goes into it that makes it so special. I am a caretaker for my mother who has an incurable cancer. We watched this morning and didn’t have any plans today so we immediately got up and made this cake. We just now finished eating our first piece and can swear it’s really delicious. I wish we had some vanilla ice cream in the house to go with it because, dang, it’s rich. Being in our situation, Angie’s story really hit home. Best wishes to you, Debbie, and all of Angie’s family and friends.

My nephew's wife, Angie, is in a Houston hospital after a liver and kidney transplant last week. She had cirrhosis of the liver that went into cancer, then her kidneys began to fail. She is one of the strongest people I've ever known. Maybe one day I can make this cake for her. So sorry for Ms Debbie's loss. I can not imagine losing one of my children. Thank you for the recipe.

Beautiful girl! I will make this in honor of her and inremembance of our son that passed away 7 months ago from pancreatic cancer he was shy 4 months of turning 40. My daddy died from Cancer after fighting for over two years. I watched this strong muscled man go form 205 to less than 70 pounds. So listening Bout your friends precious daughter made me cry . My daddy loved chocolate cake for his funeral he wanted chocolate cake and jello, so the women of our church made a most delicious dinner that included his cake and jello. Mrs. Lori: Thank you for your channel and this wonderful recipe with it's tribute to Angie. She is indeed beautiful. Even more so now that she is with our Lord. Mrs. Lori, I want to ask you for prayer. I live in Madison County, Florida. Yesterday, we were hit by a Category 3 hurricane. The authorities said that 99% of this county is without power. Temperatures have been in the hundreds for the last 2 months. This area looks like a war zone. It will take quite some time for repairs to be made. Hotels here have no room or power. We are in a state of emergency and we need prayer. If you can find it in your heart to pray in agreement with Mr. Brown and those of us in this situation, it would be so greatly appreciated. I am praying for a quick resolution and in the meantime, cooler weather. I don't think the storm will harm nearly as many as this oppressive heat. God Bless and Keep you and your precious family.

Love the new intro! Coffee always brings chocolate to a new level. Dark Roast instant can replace brewed for most recipes, otherwise I brew in morning and let sit and bake around lunchtime. Stay safe with the horrible storm fronts❤

I always use instant coffee or espresso powder when I am making a chocolate cake or brownies. I also add real vanilla extract if I am using brownie mix. This elevates the flavor so much!

When you said secret ingredient I immediately thought it’s going to be coffee. My ex-husband used to make a brownie cake type thing that had coffee in it that everybody loved it. Yum Yum.❤

I’m going to make this cake this weekend for my husband. We’ve only been married 3 weeks and we found out 3 weeks before our wedding he has lung cancer. He only eats chocolate deserts. He’s going to love this.

This cake sounds so good and I will have to make it, thank you so much Miss Lorie. my sister-in-law is fighting cancer she had both breasts removed and they said cancer free, it was back how many times, she is still fighting. Prayers for her and so many fighting the fight.

Lori, there’s something about coffee added to a chocolate recipe that enhances the flavor!!

It's going to be a great cake because of the buttermilk too. FYI - you left out the 1/2 c veg. oil in the description below (just in case you did not notice). I like the coffee in the icing as well - never added that before.

I was 10 when my sister died and 9 when my mom died. So my heart goes out to you and I lost my daughter. December will be 13 years. This cake is in my journal as Angie's. What a beautiful, young woman. I won my battle and I have 2 long scars to prove it but that's my price that I sacrificed for being able to be a great grandma. I guessed your secret ingredient. My mother always put her secret ingredient in her chuck roast with carrots and onions. She kept a little coffee from the morning percolated coffee. It made it rich. I always use hot coffee in my chocolate cakes. One other thing I use a lot is ground cayenne pepper. About 1/4 tsp. It’s delicious. I love chocolate and spice together. This story just really touched my heart. I lost my momma and my sister to cancer. It’s a horrible disease that kills and destroys people’s lives. My heart goes out to your friend. That's the exact same recipe I have been making for 25 years, it is about the best out there, but I have a new one I have been using, funny how recipes travels all around the country, and out of the country, my neighbor gave it to me and she had been using it for a long as she could remember, 85 and sad to say she also passed from cancer a few months ago, next time I make it I will think of your friends daughter, my friend and hope some day no one looses their life to cancer.
