Finding the best low profile gaming keyboard should be easy in 2019 but I found out it actually isn't. After testing keyboards from Corsair, Logitech, Roccat, Tesoro and Cooler Master in typing tests, gaming and more for this review it turns out that low profile might just be pointless.

I learned how to type on a low profile keyboard, I tried switching to a mechanical keyboard and it sucked, it's just a lot more work to move my fingers around and fatigue sets in really fast

Yes. Low profile keyboards are way better. To bad they are often lacking the other good features. All this, because people are stupid and they know nothing about what is good for them, because ads says otherwise. Low keyboard is just faster to type and better for your hands. High keyboard has no benefit over low keys.
@SeraphX2
@SeraphX2 2 жыл бұрын
that statement doesn't make sense. there is no distinction between low profile and mechanical keyboards. they are not mutually exclusive. you should just be meaning that you moved to a standard switch/key cap setup. you can have mechanical keyboards that are low profile as well.

The reason I like low profile is I don’t have to angle my hands so much. After a few hours of typing it gets exhausting and painful.

Honestly if logitech releases the G915 in a TKL and 60% version, with switch variants, they're pretty much gonna control the market. Edit : Guys I know about the G915 TKL. I have one ordered. You can stop telling me that there is one.

There are some switch variants for the g915 taktile are like brown switches, linear like the red and klicky like the blue Cherry mx switches. in my Country there are no klicky and no linear with my keyset, only the taktile. TKL is no option to me everyone has his individual needs. I think they will do one just because they need to. in two months i will make a new build get rid of my 6 Year old system then i'll get to my system a new screen and the g915

@Connor G They definitely know. I was a tester for this and it was pretty unanimous that everyone in the group wanted it. They're going down the path of making everyone buy this model now while waiting a year or more to have them buy another keyboard when the TKL arrives.

As a laptop keyboard user for pretty much all of my life, I found most keyboards to be WAY too tall for a comfortable typing experience. Until I found out about the Logitech G815. I picked it up in the clicky switch version on sale for $160 and man am I impressed. I get all the satisfyingly mechanical feel and sound without the wrist strain and pain. Plus, my typing speed and accuracy has improved exponentially since picking one up. It's also just so satisfying to use when gaming! The G915 looks cool but I'm using it for a desktop setup so it would just end up plugged in all the time anyway, and I also gain a USB passthrough for some added convenience. Logitech really did a great job with this one!

Thx for the great video. Would've spared me some time a few weeks ago while I was looking for a good low-profile mechanical keyboard. I tested the Cooler Master KS650, Corsair K70, Tesoro Gram XS, Roccat Vulcan 121 and Sharkoon PureWriter. Sadly none of the keyboards could convince me entirely and after trying out some more regular profile mechanical keyboards and ended up buying a wireless Surface Keyboard. It's not mechanical but very comfortable coming from an older Apple wired keyboard due to the fact that the footprint of both keyboards is more or less identical. I was curious though to test the Logitech G915 but at that pricepoint I wasn't even remotely willing to pay that much for a keyboard.

K3 is yet to ship and it would be really cool if you could do a video on that in the future (just a suggestion). Its the only other solid competitor to the logitech g915 TKL with wireless/wired keyboard with a low profile using mechanical switches. Have a nice day and thanks for all the cool informative videos! :)

Thanks for the video! Yes I love low profile keyboards. I think it was your love for low profile keyboards that got me to subscribe to you many years ago in hopes of tips for a great low profile keyboards. I have been using low profile scissor/membrane keyboards for about 17 years and I am so sad that for many, many years there really haven't been much low profile keyboards. I really ain't in to these mechanical keyboards. I tried one for few months with cherry reds maybe 5 years ago but only got my wrists to hurt so bad. Just can't use them. Cougar has the best keyboards at the moment I have found and tried. I've had 2x Cougar 200K's and 1x Cougar Vantar. I like the 200K better. It has everything and it is cheap. Tho they have discontinued it now. Maybe I should stack them up now. x( Logitech released the Illuminated keyboard way back like 2008 or something and it was awesome feeling keyboard to type on BUT the famous problem was that you couldn't press W + Shift + Space at the same time which is pretty problematic while gaming. x( Please continue to make more of these videos I love them. Great work!

Logitech honestly would've been my first choice of all of these due to its minimalist design and sleek looking RGB. after going through 5 or so different keyboards i settled with the G815 in white with the GL tactile. It's not perfect but I like the sound, the thickness and LP key caps. The RGB is much more versitile and vibrant on the logitec boards as well. My biggest complaint is the keycaps make a loose sound when shaking the keyboard giving a low quality impression but after a few months of using it, definetly satisfied specially since it was heavily discounted at best buy for $110 only wish is they would make a wireless version with the clicky switch config.

Love my K70 low profile with speed switches. I didn't think anything would get me to stop using my K70 with speed switches, but the LP did it. I travel a lot and the use of laptops like my 2011 Alienware M14 (probably my favorite keyboard ever), or my 2018 Razer Blade 15 have made me used to the lower profile style keyboard. While I've recently given up my laptops keyboard for the Logitech MX Keys keyboard and matching Master 3 mouse (so I can easily x-fer files to my desktop when I get home), I think it's fair to say I prefer the lower profile keyboards in general. Unfortunately, working for the government removes my ability to use my own keyboard at work. However, I've been supplied with a Cherry keyboard at my desk, so it's not a tough daily transition. While I do miss my K70 with speed switches, the new LP option is quickly helping me forget about it. I understand that it's not for everyone, but for those that are looking for something like this there is really nothing else. I have purchased and returned a lot of keyboards to find the one that fits, and the K70 LP is tough to beat. The only gripe i have about it is the actuation force seems harder than my old K70. I know they say it's the same actuation force and an even lower actuation distance at 1.0mm vs 1.2mm, but they definitely feel heavier. I could sneeze near my old K70 and register some key presses. This one, IMO, takes a bit more deliberate force. Try out the K70 LP, really doubt you'll be disappointed.

Finally a reviewer who mentions the most important factor in choosing a low profile. Ergonomics. I have used 3 different mech keyboards in the past and while I liked them for the feedback and feel they provide while typing my wrist would start hurting and the movement would lock up. It would be made even worse if I was to raise the feet. I failed to find large sized semi soft keyboard rests. I am using microsoft surface and apple magic keyboard. Both give me absolutely no pain in the wrist even though I spend 8h a day using them. Lets hope one day we get a bluetooth TKL low profile keyboard with tactile feel and regular sized arrow keys.

I use the K70 Low Profile with MX Speed switches and absolutely love it. I'm coming from a Strafe RGB that I used for years and I feel like this is one of the best upgrades I have ever made to my set up. If it broke tomorrow I would be buying another one immediately. It's the most comfortable keyboard I have ever typed on, and I really believe that Corsair is killing the game with aesthetics on all of their peripherals. The only thing I kinda wish they were doing is the soft wrist rests that Razer is doing for all of their high end boards, but even that doesn't take away from this keyboard being perfect in my eyes.

Good review as always. HOWEVER, I don't agree with the idea that the "perfect" Low Profile keyboard does not exist. A more accurate statement would be that the "perfect" KEYBOARD does not exist. I recently purchased the Corsair K70 M.2 and the K70 M.2 Low Profile with it in mind that I would use them both on an ongoing basis. I paid roughly $140 for each of them. I Ended up liking the M.2 Low Profile with the Cherry Silver switches so much that I returned the regular K70 M.2 (although I really liked that one as well!). The M.2 switches are sensitive but it just takes some getting used to. and overall I REALLY appreciate how the keyboard feels to use for gaming and daily typing. It as perfect as perfect gets for me!

I've been looking for a low profile mechanical keyboard. The convenience problem I'm trying to solve is being able to rest my wrist lower to the table. With a normal mechanical keyboard, the optimal hand positioning is slightly raised, which can get tiresome. I like the satisfaction of mech keyboard, but they require a lot of attention than effort than a regular low profile keyboard.

I have a Corsair K70 RGB MK2 Low Profile keyboard. The keyboard itself is very nice quality wise, but I simply can't get used to it - not sure if that's because it's low profile, the size of the key caps or because of the MX Speed Silver switches it comes with, but I find myself often pressing the wrong key(s) by mistake (something which did not happen with my previous Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2 keyboard or any other keyboards I've owned). Worst, these will normally be control keys which very often ends up in weird stuff happening and me losing the entirety of whatever I was typing. Very frustrating. It's very hard to understand what I am doing wrong or what is happening exactly since I am focusing on typing quickly when it happens and therefore not paying attention, but it seems that simply slightly 'brushing' a key (not hard to do with my long fingers) is enough to actuate it. Probably more to do with the silver switches than anything else. Whatever the reason, next week I'm getting a K95 Platinum with MX Brown Cherry switches instead.

Ergonomics, Ergonomics, Ergonomics. When I have a high performance gaming keyboard that HURTS to use after a while because my desk setup isn't perfectly made for me to hover over the board with all the correct posture, I will literally switch from my expensive gaming keyboard to a cheap LAPTOP keyboard just because it is more ergonomic and not tiring to type on. Even though the laptop keyboard is cheap rubber domes. So if you can combine both the ergonomics of low profile laptop stuff with gaming tactility/key rollover I would pay top dollar.

The best low profile keyboard existed and it was called Microsoft X6. Unmatched specs to this day: TKL but with modular numpad, lighting, media keys, dedicated macro keys, integrated wrist rest, dedicated hold button, dedicated macro record function, dedicated profile switch key, software with no problems, built like a tank (used mine for 10 years, run flawlessly). Sadly no company right now is willing to make a keyboard with actual features and usability. They only make keyboards with quirks so that you miss specs and buy their next one after a couple of years. Logitech dishes out a 250e keyboard with botched specs (no lighting on the second chars? who on earth would prefer not being able to see the symbols? does the designer actually use keyboards? might as well not print them at all next time maybe), exposed switches with keycaps that break at the slightest strain with no aftermarket support for them, software that is absolutely terrible, macros that do no work on onboard mode, etc...

I use the Logitech G815 (wired version of the G915), with clicky switches and I find it a lovely experience to type on. I find myself being highly productive with it while working at home since those G-keys improve my workflow; but I just don't like gaming on it, which is weird considering it's marketed towards gamers. Overall a nice experience and I hope it sets a benchmark for other peripheral makers to try making good low-profile designs.

I have the G813 which is just a 915 without the the wireless and it's been fantastic. GHub on the other hand has had some regressions with features, such as lighting profiles. When i first got the keyboard, there was around 25-30 different profiles, that's been cut to half or even less. It did take a bit of getting used to since I'm so accustomed to typing on full height keys, but I don't think I can go back to using one for gaming. Logi really knocked it out with the fit and finish of the keyboard. Would I have paid $189 for the keyboard, nope, not even if I made twice what I do right now, but that's the benefit of being a product tester. Hopefully the G813 will last me much much longer than my Logi Mice have.

slim profile is really nice since I move around often and use it for different devices in different environment. typing while lying down on the sofa with a pc attached to the tv, being outside with a cintiq drawing tablet, carrying it around in a bag etc. also, I like the flat keys. I'm used to playing on a laptop, I was able to slide my finger across the keys in order to press certain keys in quick succession with a single finger. this is crucial in many games in the forms of animation cancels and comboing. with a flat keyboard, gliding across feels like sliding on a bumpy surface. with those bulky keyboards, it feel like trying to do a glissando on a piano with every keys broken and stuck.

I mainly used the super flat HP keyboards over the years and learned to love them. Even these still feel too tall for me. I know I’m the odd one out here because I also can’t live without a numpad on my keyboards.

I have been using the Keychron K1 V3 for the past month and have been very satisfied. I think low profile keyboards are especially useful to people who spend a lot of time on their laptop keyboards and then switch back to a desktop setup like mine and want to work in clamshell mode. Having a mechanical keyboard that is more closely constructed to the laptop keyboards helps minimize the issues with constantly switching between a low profile butterfly keyboard and a clunky mech keyboard. Plus the low profile ones just look so much better on the desk than the big keyboard eyesore.

It's a type of digital transition known as morphing. It was used everywhere back in the '90s - commercials, TV shows, games, music videos, you name it. While sometimes it was executed to great effect, most of the time it came off kinda cheesy... and it got way, WAY overused. You don't see it much anymore because of that. Figured he did it here mostly as a cheeky throwback. 😉

the K70 MKII IS my perfect keyboard. Everything from the switches, to the form factor, to the RGB, is exactly what I was looking for in a keyboard. I was in love with MX reds, and despite trying many others, I was certain I'd never switch from them, till LP MX reds came into my life (I do still want to try LP MX speeds, I'm just not willing to buy a whole nother keyboard to do so). Now I'm slowly in the process of replacing every keyboard I use with a K70 MKII. I'm GLAD that companies realize that not everyone wants a TKL keyboard. For a while, it seemed like that was all anyone was making. Now it seems they've swung back to the other extreme which makes me feel bad for TKL. I do think options should exist, even if I personally can't stand them :P

Lightspeed for my private computer, Bluetooth for my work laptop when working at home. Don't need a wrist rest so it also saves space on my desk. Easier to clean the desk as well since the keyboard is easily removed. Paired with a G502 wireless and the Logitech charging mouse pad.

Its a small thing, but the only thing stopping me from picking up the Logitech 815 (The wired version of the wireless version in the window) is that the symbol characters on the number keys and across the board aren't illuminated. If I'm going to drop £150 quid on a mechanical RBG wired keyboard I want my bloody symbols to be nice and glowy too! Is that too much to ask? T_T

2021 and still no perfect low pro keyboard. So far the Keychron K1v4 is my fave. I haven't had any of the issues yet that other people have mentioned but I also run it wired to a USB switch. Since longevity is still in question with the K1's, I'm hoping the v5 will be hot swappable and I can stockpile switches and caps.
