Is this better than using the MMR sump buffle, and can I do just the buffle either S55 or MMR.

I’ve just done this mod to my M135i and I had issues with the steering rack touching the sump. I had to grind some of the steering rack casing down to create a gap. The gap is tiny so I’m paranoid I might damage the sump. Also the sump sits below the subframe and is the lowest point of the car. I wish I hadn’t of bothered with this mod.

what is the part number for the s55 sump and will it fit a 2012 m135i?

Would there be anything stopping you from just fitting the S55 sump and oil pick up to the original pump? While the complete upgrade is better, but for someone looking for a more robust and cheaper solution would that be worthwhile?

Many tracks with the oem oil sump? I got a F30 335i 100% oem but I'm afraid to go track because of oil starvation. I'm amateur but I push hard.

What grade of oil have you put in and does the sump plug come magnetic

We used a 5w30 Grade of oil :)

is S55 pan bigger in any dimension?, can you still fit engine cover?

The s55 sump sits roughly 5cm lower than the n55 sump, which sits quite a bit lower than the subframe. The undertray fits but sits against the sump and bulges it downwards.

@@Gvon86 Thanks! 5cm is really a lot! I've already ordered new n55 with s55 sump (m2 version) to swap for my old broken engine. Now I'm quite in doubt if that was good idea. As I was pulling engine (with trans) out trough the front it was a pretty tight in vertical direction, engine mounts and subframe made a lot of clearing problems. I have my subframe still in place. This sounds like I would need to remove subframe, put engine in, and then install subframe, engine still on cherry picker... or do engine and trans separately, which also pain to figure out how to access and torque upper bolts...

I would remove the subframe and then put the engine and transmission in together, then bolt the subframe on after. What model do you have? 1 series?

@@Gvon86 Yes, F20 M135i 2014 (ewg). Thanks for advice, I really appreciate it! In that case do I need to unbolts shocks and get alignment afterwards? I'm doing this on a jack stands without a lift so I hoped not to touch subframe, and this is my first major job on a car. Braver than smarter I guess..

No worries. Just be mindful about the steering rack. I ground a fair bit off and I’m also going to fit 5mm spacers to the engine mounts to raise the engine. You can drop the subframe and leave the shock absorbers and from hubs attached to the vehicle. The repair instructions say to carry out alignment after subframe removal but I checked mine and it was still spot on.
