The Class 20 looks sweet. I definitely understand why it’s in first place. The spinning fan is awesome. Bachmann Really put a lot of time and effort into it.

Even being on the steam side I admit that Accurascale did a splendid job on the Deltic

I like the #3 pick. With American-style knuckle couplers (and no buffers), it would make a nice, small 0-6-0 switcher for a dockside operation, or a tight, industrial scene. Definitely not naff. 😉

Hey Sam, this has been a good year for the British side of the hobby, as I am primarily a Canadian/American prototype modellers. I bought my first OO gauge loco, and look forward to what 2023 has for this region of the hobby to come and announce.

Thank you for this and the many other videos posted this year, I have enjoyed all those I have watched. My favourite train this year is the Stuart Kerr Victory, well built, good price and smooth runner. Second was the Accurascale Deltic, fantastic but those chains on the bogies were not thought out very well.

I recently got a 1p from bachmann it runs very well. I might keep a eye out for a precedent as there very nice

A model I bought this year that I loved was Merchant Navy Belgian Marine, I was absolutely blown away with how smooth of a runner it was add that to the amount of detail it had and you’ve got my favourite model of the year

I'm so glad that the P Class got to the top 3 at least! I wasn't able to buy a brand new one from Hattons, although I did buy a slightly used one for $70 USD, which isn't bad since if I got one for £99 it would've been about 110 USD or if I had gotten one for 84 pounds it would've been about 90ish USD. I did have to fit my own steps and then decided to replace all the steps yo match and I repainted it into my own livery! I'd love to show it off to you and everyone in general in the near future, although he's not quite finished yet, but close! Thank you so much for the reviews this year Sam! Here's to a great year for model trains in 2023!

Judging by the videos you've made, the quality control at Dapol seems to be improving. My class 73 is good, when the one you reviewed had issues. My Dapol 68 is good which agrees with your review. I have not got a Dapol steam loco, but I might get my first one, the Dapol Manor, on the strength of your review! Thanks for uploading.

I bought the genesis coaches from hattons just kanded today beautiful (the Southern green ones are special) and stopped me buying a 9f (my heart broke but I refuse to pay that for a poir running loco). Nice video, I recently got an 03 for 35 pounds at my local exhibition, absolute steal, and my p class is very good as well, great little model, maybe you could do best rolling stock?

The SE&CR generally used vacuum braking rather than air brakes. What looks like a Westinghouse pump on the P class is actually the steam reverser.

I not sure but I think I can hear the 812 and the Improved Precedent yelling out in tandem "OF COURSE WE'RE MORE EXPENSIVE! WE'RE EXCLUSIVES!". Other than that, Merry Christmas Sam and have a Happy New Year from the Land Down Under!

To a lot of people, even 159.95 is a lot of money. Feels weird saying that is affordable given what prices use to be, but in todays market, that really is cheaper than a lot of others. This top 5 does show that you can get top quality models cheaper than Hornby pricing. I haven't got a particular favourite in the top 5. There was quite a variety, but I want to say thank you for all your reviews. Have a great Christmas with your family and look forward to seeing you in the new year :)

I bought six loco’s this year. 1 A2 Tudor Minstrel. 2 Q6 BR late crest. 3 Hall Coyningham. 4 A4 Golden Plover. 5 A1 Kestrel. Finally 6 Duchess of Abercorn. Couldn’t cut them down to a top 5. Thanks for your video. Great reference.

Try an experiment with the hornby 59, buy another one, and put two motors on one frame

I have reservations about the white plastic gears in that Bachmann. They tend to split easily, if that is the same material they have used all the years.

Thanks Sam Given that value for the money is a subjective thing (e.g if one needs a Caly 812, then is it too expensive as there is no substitute), I wonder what your top ones would be if you gave us the scores without the value modifier. Also a shout out to Dapol for DCC and sound fitted options on their Manor which will run on DC layouts without modification. The sound fitted one is as expensive as a Hornby RRP DCC ready loco, but the limited sounds it gives you are pretty good and really wow the grandchildren. I am not allowed to run much else when they visit😂😂😂 All the best for Christmas and next year for you and yours.

Decent video here Sam, my best model of 2022 even though it is quite an old model now would probably be my bachmann deltic prototype, just to find one of those for a good price was fanatastic, the model also came detailed up with both ends having all the pipe work fitted and had lamps fitted on the lamp hooks on one end, it is also weathered.

Glad that my favourite loco made it… and that number 1 is a diesel!!!

Any loco can be fixed with sprung buffers any loco including the egg vans

An excellent selection Sam, and all well deserved there. Had it been a line up of favourites, we would have put the Caledonian 812 at our personal premier place. We just love its charm and looks, however since this is not about beauty queens, your choices are very fair and superb. Wonderful. All well earned 🥳

While I still have some Lionel O Gauge and American Flyer S Gauge locos and rolling stock, I no longer have space for a layout. I do have a large collection of old print catalogs from Lionel, MTH Electric Trains, 3rd Rail, and K-Line. I still get Lionel print catalogs. I can't afford most current O and S Gauge locos, although I can dream, Do you ever review the expensive ($500 to $2,800+) locos and sets?

And let’s not forget the best rolling stock of 2022… The 55ton hoppers from Bachmann… The last-minute Genesis coaches from Hatton’s… Rapido’s sadly recalled Dynamometer Car… Bachmann’s incredibly unique Blacksmith car… And the king of the rankings, the JHA hoppers from Dapol.
