Just saying as someone who grew up in Africa: wearing black coloured items in hot sunshine is a really bad idea. Black absorbs the sun's heat much faster than light coloured clothes. Unfortunately, about 90% of riders and manufacturers think black is trendy and looking cool is better than feeling cool. Get a Held beige mesh jacket and feel the difference.

@@Stno3582 , You sound like a silly fan boy. "So put a white/orange/bloody beige LINEN tshirt over it, it's also mesh." WHAT??? You're suggesting buying a black, mesh jacket and covering it with a light colored fabric so it can be cooler? LOL!!! Your cognitive dissonance won't even allow you to consider the thought of buying another manufacturer's LIGHT COLORED MESH JACKET. And as the owner of a white, fully perforated, goat skin leather, Vanson riding jacket, I beg to differ with your assertion that "This product is better than any jacket". Would definitely want something other than black. It’s fantastic that the mesh works really well when moving, however as someone who lives in a City, that’s not always the case. Just had a great 100 mile ride at the weekend, wearing a mesh jacket, however as soon as I got back in to city traffic, with bus lanes narrowing roads so you can’t filter, regular traffic lights, you just don’t have enough motion to stay cool. At that point lighter and reflective colours DO make a difference. Please don’t assume we all have the Lake District for our biking adventures, I have to ride about 10+ miles out of the city to get in to some nice leafy country lanes, but that 20 miles out and then back in can be miserable.

We do have lighter colour options of the knox Urbane Pro for example which are available and shown clearly in the video. We're just saying in a motorcycle environment, as these products are using ventilation to manage the heat, in practice and from trailing the different colours, the difference the lighter colour makes in this environment is negligible. Guys, I get where you're coming from on the "black absorbs heat" thing, but have you ever TRIED Knox gear??? Theirs is truly amongst the safest, highest quality on the market and, when it comes to coupling that safety with ventilation, they're absolute tops!! I live in the Southeastern Coastal US; I know heat and humidity [too] well. Even when it's 95F with a heat index of 108F, I wear the Knox armoured base layer Action Pro trousers, as well as the Knox Honister armoured shirt (AAA rated). I also wear the full leather Knox Orsa gloves. ALL gear is hot in this type of weather, but I own no better gear when it comes to safety and ventilation than Knox, so sweat be damned. But again, I get you on the color thing, and also wear a hi-vis Helite Turtle 2 over my Knox Honister. Car drivers will always drive negligently, and my Helite and bright yellow Shoei RF-1400 give me the best visibility in hopes that I'm seen.

Hi Peter, is the Knox Honister ventilated? Because I see this one has only the upper back ventilation I am also very interested in the new MICRO-LOCK COMPACT. I wonder if they are as ventilated and lightweight as the official website says? I live in Taiwan which is hotter than you and the current summer average temperature is 102°F which is hot as hell Ha ha ha ha🙃🙃🙃
@Peter-mcmcmc
@Peter-mcmcmc 2 жыл бұрын
@@tribes21 lol…yep, you’ve got us beat in Taiwan, for sure! And yes, it’s EXTREMELY well ventilated. Since getting the Honister a little over one month ago, it’s all I wear up top (well, the Helite, too). One thing they don’t advertise that amazed me, is that I’ve been caught in the rain three times in it and there’s a remarkable cooling effect. So yes, it breathes effortlessly, and as a bonus in the rain, you don’t get drenched, but you DO get a nice mist cooling. It also dries remarkably fast and doesn’t hold stinky sweat lol. The best thing about Knox’s armour is that it stays put - exactly where it’s supposed to be. You never have to worry about it shifting or “kind of/maybe/sort of” in the right place. One more thing that really speaks to your question about their new, more slender armour. I just got a @Goldtop leather jacket that comes standard with Knox elbow and shoulder armour. I paid the extra $47 USD for the micro-lock Knox back protector and, when it arrived, was floored by how slender it is in comparison (a couple of years ago I bought a Knox Utility Pro shirt that came with the older model, which is equally as protective, but not as trim). I love all their stuff and highly recommend it.

I have a Knox dark green/black jacket.... I am not saying it is inferior gear 9 Well made ) however I live where there is very little humidity but 117 F ( Desert ) is not unheard of ! May work better on the East Coast with the high humidity?.... I would always prefer a light colored Jacket or even pants.... and the tight fitting works well under something in cooler weather but on its own i feel constricted and do not feel cooler but hotter unless moving. Look at what the Bedouins wear in the desert loose fitting light colored and covered up so you may sweat underneath but dehydrate way less quicker when windy...... above 100 F you should not wear mesh.......

I have several pieces of their gear. The Utility Pro shirt, gloves and trousers. Love them all. I will say that they are quite heavy coming off the hanger BUT once you put them on, the weight disappears, and they are extremely comfortable and flow some nice air. I also feel well protected with them on. But even better than their product is their customer service. My trousers came with a flaw in the stitching of the armor pocket. Their support team spent a long time communicating with me in both chat & emails until they could figure out the flaw. Once discovered, they immediately apologized for the inconvenience and shipped out another pair. Might not sound like much, but it honestly was.

03:31- As a Texan, I'm calling B.S. on your entire point about there not being much difference between the hot weather comfort levels of darker and lighter colored clothing, except while stationary. What you consider hot, we call early Autumn. I've never understood the childish obsession with trying to look cool (no pun intended) or tough, by wearing black gear while operating a motorcycle. The temperature argument aside, why in the world would any motorcyclist want to be LESS VISIBLE on the roads? I wear a WHITE, perforated leather jacket; like Evel Knievel. It makes me highly visible, it keeps me very comfortable, and you can't look any cooler or be any tougher than Evel Knievel.

This is the guy from Mississippi, I was a ground fighting soldier in 29 different countries until two years ago, I wore black in the heat 50% of the time, I have a black bass boat that exceeds 80mph on water, black while moving causing wind to pass over you prevents the evaporation of sweat which is what keeps us cool. While stationary I must agree black is slightly, and only slightly hotter when the subject is clothing. The trick is when you know you will be stationary for longer periods of time during an operation or a ride, or fishing, wear a lighter colored undergarment. However I know from experience outer garment of lighter color allows for too great of sweat evaporation thus making you dry and sucks your fluids fast. “Feel” is only important when the subject is a naked body, when the subject is of human health safety and well being feel has to be intertwined with science. My experience and my opinion no dis respect. Good job Knox. Will drop you a line following testing, thank you.

Test your gear in Phoenix, Arizona (USA) in July or August. Include some low speed stop & go urban riding and also some low speed technical off road riding. At temperatures of 45C (113F) you will discover why lighter colors are much cooler to ride in than black in intense sunlight. Also do some high speed highway riding and see much cooling effect you feel from a blast of 45C air - it feels like a blast furnace. Ideally make a sample of your product in white and compare it to black in back-to-back tests. I predict this will make you re-think your view that black color vs light color doesn’t matter. It might also open a large new market for your product if and when you decide to sell light color versions. Please don’t assert that wearing a white jersey on top is the ideal solution. More layers, more heat - even if that additional jersey is vented.

The problem with the Knox system is you can't add a heated vest. It's useless over the Urbane, and won't really fit under if the armoured layer fits properly. I also have a gripes on the Urbane itself and the wellbeck rain jacket. The Urbane zips regularly get stuck so need a zip lube so to speak. Not had this on other jackets. And why doesn't it have any method to connect to trousers/pants. On the Wellbeck, it only has the same HH as the soft shell. Plus the coating on the inside is prone to getting worn/rubbed off by the urbane. Overall I like the idea, but it needs another few iterations before it will be worked out. Look at Adventure Spec and the stretch fabrics they are using.

For those oppose to wearing black, if you commonly travel under the speed of say 20mph black will be 3-5 degrees hotter without the ventilation that Knox provides. Test a Knox shirt at ten mph against a none ventilated light color and then input your comments, Knox has spent hours upon hours to bring this product to us, don’t knock Knox until you’ve bought one. Nowhere in the world is hotter than the MS delta, and it too could be a case where you aren’t hydrated and or are in bad physical shape. And while not trying to disagree I deeply appreciate what Knox has done having been in terrible military circumstances sliding over hundred of feet of asphalt, there is that to consider as well not comfort only. Yes I like my women soft and pretty, but she need not be fragile. Females out there I’m not disrespecting either, I just prefer females.
