When I used the first one my connection went 6 mps to 36 and last one improved my upload speed

looked into subject -> watched video. Let it sink in, came back a couple weeks later. Rewatched video -> followed along-> rewatched video-> played around-> went to comments section, still kinda confused -> rewatched video-> Finally clicks and i can see the 1's and 0's. Thanks alot, really appreciate you answering the same thing over and over again to people down below even way after the video was posted.

It helps in pvp games because your upload speed in the rate that your personal inputs are sent to the server. Download speed is your ability to see everyone else's input.

Thank you soo much some of my games weren't working before ( rocket league , cod cold war, Minecraft) and when i changed the MTU to 1356 they all started working back again your a life saver.

I actually have done a lot of research to why this makes a difference. It eventually did make a difference back when PSN was suffering when PS4 was released. I can't seem to understand why it worked or why it would specifically impact your network performance while playing multiplayer games, because the packets then won't be anywhere near 1500 bits or 1000 bits even. This could improve your download speed that you see on the test or when downloading games but it wouldn't be really significant. I see this only being useful if you have a router that struggles with fragmenting packets but this is an unlikely scenario unless it's a very crappy ISP router.

If you have an xbox. Look at your detailed connection settings. The MTU has never been 1500. Mine is usually 1478. That's the automatic setting from xbox on wired connection

It didn't work for my download speed but it did for my upload. it drastically changed. I Suggest 1472 as your mtu tho.

You need to do 10 tests for every mtu you change in order to have a media attendibile, otherwise can just be a case

6:52 most games like black ops 3 that require a host to well host a lobby has to have a high upload speed otherwise if it is low the whole lobby starts to lag and the game has to host migrate to a better upload speed of a different player in the lobby but in bo3 the servers just suck so we need best results for that not to happen basically

It is dependant on your isp set it lower then they recommend and you lose packets. Losing packets is bad for gaming.

So how did you figure out that 1355 to beging with?

It's definitely not snake oil, I was having major lag with Overwatch on PS4 (700 ping) when my brother in law who works with computers told me to try and set the MTU number from 1500 to 1400 when setting up the connection on my PS4. I noticed it helped a little bit, I was lagging a little less and I noticed I didn't die around corners less. I set it to 1300 and I started lagging a lot less and my shots actually connected more often. I wanna try setting it lower but another trick I used with MTU, is if I set the MTU setting to 800, then when I go into GTA Online Public Lobbies I'm the only one there. (Which is good because I wanted a solo lobby to do work in.) But when the MTU is at 800 I can't even start a match in Overwatch. (I get stuck at the loading screen when entering the match.) But if the number is set to 1000, then I get other players in GTA Lobbies again. Maybe 1000 would be the best for OW?

I agree with you that this doesn't matter if you have 60mbit upload but if like I had 250kbit/s upload and I repeat 250kbit/s and change of MTU help me achieve 10mbit/s it's a huge different in multiplayer games🙏

In UK we pay for service speeds up to! A set amount. Changing mtu would always be capped. But will try it and let you know

The thing with my ps4 is it logs in on psn, downloads games in a rather timely fashion everything is fine but it cannot connect to any video game server

tysm i had 4 mbps download and 816 kbps upload after i found my mtu which was 1411 now i have 1.8 mbps download and 3.0 mbps upload that decreased my ping too much tysm

Im not sure if you're familiar with fighting games, it seems like you mostly play fps. In terms of this being snake oil for multiplayer console gaming, do you think this would have more of a tangible effect on netcode for p1 vs p2 games ( fighting games typically have delay based netcode or rollback netcode) Right now i got 1424 mtu on my ps4 and 1500 set for my router- after 2 weeks its hard to say for sure if its better, but i dont think its doing any harm. Sometimes its hard to gauge these results when Time Warner Cable (kinda garbage isp) is already selling you their best package.

Thanks for the video man, I saw your video on how to try to switch the NAT from type 3 strict but unfortunately this did not work for me due to my satellite internet. I just applied for a static IP and a raise in my upload speed from 2 Mbps to 4. My download is at 25 so hopefully this helps my small lag issue. If you have any suggestions to help me out it would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm trying to get solo public sessions on GTA v online on my PS4 after this last update since they've messed with it. And I heard that lowering my MTU till like 850 will help with that. But I'm not very familiar with MTU and what all it does or means so I'm just wondering if you think this would be something that would work and if you think it will make my game perform worse or make me lag cuz I don't want to do this if it's going to make me lag in-game online

See the issue with my internet is that my ps4 recognizes anything before 1500 as a fragmented packet, literally any number, i found out by your method and any other that my optimal mtu size is 1492, but by using that i cant evem connect to psn. By using 1500 i get an error that throws me out of psn not instantly, but soon enough. And by uaing any other i get thrown out instantly. I dont really get what the issue is, maybe you have a clue about what i should tell my isp? Because i dont have access to my router, they do. Thats the way things work in greece

What DNS server you use? Default or google... any videos with messing with the DNS settings with MTU settings as well...
