when in '80s they imagined a futuristic society around this type of music and here we are almost 40 years later far faaar away from that vision sadly :( but at least we have this music to keep on dreaming..

This wave started in mid-2000s according to wikipedia, but it exploded in 2010 I believe. But the most important thing is that Synthwave is timeless, so we'll have synth anthems until the cars can fly, or people live in other planets. It all depends of us.

Back in the 80's the future seemed so bright and futuristic, crazy futuristic with flying cars, space travel, super advanced cities and much more. Today, look around what we've made of our dreams. Im not proud of that and I hope these dreams will be realized sometime later.

Listening to this makes me want to sprint through dark alley ways... black steel flapping and dripping.. the moon glistening off my Vaseline soaked body... bare feet slamming the ground as my thighs explode from the intense steroid injections.... gripping and swinging my nunchucks around and meeting the faces of a million blonde banged punk kids trying to grab at my ankles. Only to exit the end of the alleyway and execute 3 front flips into the front seat of a 1990 Diablo VT and cruise off into victory as the moonlight beats down onto the lenses of my google prototype scopes.

This music reminds me of being a wee boy in the mid 80s, watching the best cartoons ever created (jayce and the wheeled warriors, M. A. S. K, transformers) just loving life, this is what the future sounded like. Unfortunately even though technology has surpassed my expectations, we haven't yet ended up in the utopia I imagined at the time. But hey, at least I have this music to take me back to a time of absolute wonder.
