Henry, Thank you so much for taking me to places that are now beyond me. I’m 76 years old but still can appreciate the beauty that you bring to us. On a clear day I can just about see the peaks of the Lake District from here on the Isle of Man.

For a landscape photographer, your channel is more entertaining then most KZfaq hiking channels. Thanks Henry!

Most usefull bit of gear I have ever/will ever have is, a clean pair of socks.

Oh Henry, am always amazed at how you hike up these mountains, oh to be young and full of enthusiasm. Great images. Best bit of gear for me is a monopod which doubles as a hiking pole, adjustable. Best thing ever, especially for old bones 🇦🇺😁

My favourite useful bit of kit is the SmallRig L bracket for the Sony a7IV. Allows my large hands to have enough space to hold the camera more comfortably as it adds about 1cm to the height, am never without a horizontal and vertical arca swiss mount, adds some protection as well as making the camera sit much nicer on a flat surface with bigger lenses.

Most useful piece of gear I've got is probably the Artists View Catcher.. good for framing up compositions in various different aspect ratios without having to get the camera out. I've found it best for woodland photography or when it's very cold or wet and you don't want to have the camera left out of the bag. Very cheap and light too.

You asked about what gear we use … for a camera carry system, I prefer the Cotton Carrier system to the Peak Design, because the camera is secured in the center of your chest. I’m primarily a wildlife photographer, so the 100-400mm lens I use is heavy and centering the weight makes it easier on my shoulders.

Oh my goodness, my heart was in my mouth when you were up the top of that fell 😱 it looked incredible, and very very high up 😅 I think I would have frozen and needed to be picked up by mountain rescue if it was me up there lol 😆what views though ❤ thanks for another phenomenal video, and fabulous photos ❤

The glasses bit is my pet peeve, then to add insult to injury to injury had them made as reactions ( uv reactions on lenses ) makes it peper head banging. Got the clip 18 or so months ago and it’s just a cracking peice of kit. Keep up the good work

I have a Cotton Carrier to put my camera on while I walk, it's like a vest with a similar holder for the camera. So nice to be hands free.

LEXI brand cane that extends to a trekking pole. And can rest a camera on the handle or a monopod. Wrist straps.

Been following you for a while but haven't commented until now. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and engagement - gives me the vicarious Lakeland fells experience in between my annual trips to Cumbria! Totally with you on the Peak Performance clip... I actually had one delivered to where I was staying in the Lakes as I was missing sooo many shots. It works a treat and given that you are hanging a pretty expensive piece of kit on it, needs to be brilliantly designed and made. It is, fortunately. My 'surprise' useful purchase was a set of bright orange foam separators to turn any day sack into a decent camera bag. I found this awesome, as a) the choice of day sacks is way better (and cheaper) than camera bags, and b) I'm sick to death of black separators where you invariably lose bits of camera gear that are also, usually ... black.

My best investment is a sense of humour, it’s stopped me hurling myself off a few cliffs over the last three years 😉

Another awesome video and pictures. I know for me, I think the most useful thing I purchased and use regularly is my Kase magnetic filter and lens cap system. It is hard sometimes as the magnets are not super strong, but well worth the investment.

Yes Henry! Absolutely my best bit of kit too - with the peak design cuff!

A folding backpackers seat ( a rigid foam pad ) keeps my knees and rump dry. A ball cap to keep the rain off my glasses.

i got a platypod i didnt use it at first but now love it and use it a lot i think you have to see situations you can use it as your going through life then utilise it in said situations when it comes to using your camera

I have a beanbag which I use for forest floor and macro - it's so nice to have a piece of unbreakable gear that has so many uses, I kneel on it sometimes and other times the camera sits on it to get ground shots/mushrooms/flowers etc. It weighs nothing too so it's no effort to take it with me. Sometimes you can place it on a fence or free stump and the camera will sit rigidly on it - saves on tripod carrying!

I think my L bracket is the most useful piece of gear for landscape photography. I also think a flash meter is great for saving time for indoor studio portraits when setting up the lights.

My favourite piece of gear is a combination of the peak design clip with the three legged thing L bracket which fits perfectly in the clip and a packet of disposable shower caps that I use to cover the camera when it’s raining cats and dogs do I can still keep the camera on the clip without worrying

Definitely looks like the kind of wilderness where you would cary overnight emergency gear and foul weather gear even on sunny days. Would like to see how and what you pack in your pack for a treck like this.

Best piece of kit... PGYTech Mantis Pod tripod. It is a mini tripod I use it for vlogging with my Gopro. I can also get very low with my main camera......

Rain really makes the colors pop. I've hiked in some tremendous downpours, sprinkles and showers, not an issue. Not fun during the storm but afterwards, the environment looks so clean and fresh.

I love the Peak Design stuff. Like you, I wouldn’t be without my capture clip. Definitely a game changer for those of us who prefer handheld photography. I find their wrist strap is a game changer too for a clumsy fool like me 😅

Best gear for me is my vacuum flask and the tip for glasses wearers is a peak cap.

Peak Design has great customer service. I had a problem attaching their clip to my L-bracket, but they talked me through it and followed through until it was resolved. Yeah!

It's a little over 30 years since I was on Whiteside and I remembered every step (except that bad step). I was in a dark place at the time at sitting on those crags looking into the Ghyll was a turning point for me; a new beginning. So, quite a special one. Thank you so much for taking me back and sharing your joy, and frustrations. Did you eat the noodles, or did the pub get some custom?

Wooden (oak) hand grip from Edward Russell for Olympus 300mm f3 Pro or 40-150mm Pro lens f2.8 lens fits to the both of the lens tripod mount makes shooting with these lens handheld more comfortable.

I knew before I started that you would be talking about the clip. Likewise, I held off because of the price. Then I went for it and never looked back. The value isn’t in the lump of metal, it’s in the usefulness, and I would struggle without it now.

Another great vid, Henry. One of my favorite pieces of "auxiliary" kit is an LCD sunshade hood and magnifier. I use it only a few times a year --- when shooting landscapes on a tripod when there is too much sun glare to rely on the LCD, and the EVF is not an effective option. In those cases, it allows me a much clearer and sharper view of the subject to fine-tune composition, focus etc, both before shooting and after when reviewing test images. It has also been very useful when shooting astro --- to review test shots in detail before finalizing focus, composition, and exposure. Although there are more expensive options, I bought a version from LensGo which covers a 3.2 inch screen, has a 3.2x magnifier, is durable (silicon), and collapses when not in use to minimize footprint in my camera bag --- it was under $20 on Amazon.

Well, in the words of George Formby.. "Turned out nice again!" 🤣🤣 I think I might've mentioned this before, but it never ceases to amaze me how you seem to know exactly where you are all the time! You reel off the names of all these fells like you've got them written down somewhere! You must literally know the Lake District like the back of your hand!

My favorite piece of camera equipment is the Move Shoot Move star tracker which allows me to take images of Milky way at 4 minutes, F2.8 ISO 400. You had a 3+ hour live stream (CONGRATS!!) & this video. Great work man. Well done!

recent gear purchase that I find useful Nitecore BB Mini Electronic Photography Blower Portable Available for less through Amazon than Nitecore Does away with the effort of the more usual puffer brush/rocket type cleaners

Best unusual piece of kit: a climber’s caribiner which I use to attach my camera pouch (housing z6 or z50) to the bottom of my backpack shoulder strap. I carry the camera pouch with a shoulder strap and the caribiner keeps it in place to one side and prevents it from swinging about. I prefer that to having the camera exposed to the elements and potential bashes on rocks. It still remains readily accessible. Great video again and interesting to follow your thoughts on lightweight and simple set up to carry you across the fells where the hillwalking is as important as the photography. That must resonate with many folk. 👏😀

I also baulked at the price of the PD camera clip fo the longest time but eventually felt flush enough to buy one as i was finding lugging my Nikon D610 too much on hikes. I can only say that it has transformed my walking/photo walks.

I like the 3 Legged Thing "L" bracket for my Z camera.

Most useful bit of kit is a microfibre cloth for cleaning my glasses (& the camera lens) when it's raining! Great to see you back on the Wainwrights Henry. It seems to have been a while.

Really enjoy these extended videos up the lakeland fells and elsewhere. Plus it's great that when you see something that catches your eye, you take an image of it. Not many on youtube seem willing to do that. My 2 most useful pieces of kit are a Peak Design Cuff, essentially a camera strap for your wrist. It slides on itself, so if you drop the camera the strap tightens round your wrist and saves the camera from hitting the floor. The second is a Buff.I've got about a dozen and you can't go wrong with them if you need something round your neck or a lightweight hat. So simple to convert into a beanie, and surprisingly warm, even in the depths of winter.

Most unusual and useful piece of gear I’ve bought recently was a Brafor

I have been using a balancing ball head for the tripod it is much easier to level the tripod rather than adjusting all the legs.

Henry I bought a filter wrench from ebay it cost only £2.50 . I had a polarising filter that was tight to get off . With the wrench they always come off easily. Great video as always . Rich

Hi Henry, my current little extra piece of equipment is Manfrotto ML240 Mini 24 LED panel light. It is small light weight and ideal for adding extra light when snapping fungi, insects etc in dark areas.

Another great vid H. Best piece of auxiliary kit I've got recently is an over the shoulder/across the chest strap. Much like your Peak Design clip, it makes the camera quick to grab and leaves your hands free. As I usually have a 150-600mm bolted to the camera, it made a lot of sense to me. Only paid 30 quid on amazon

I agree, the PD camera clip is a fantastic bit of kit. I too was unsure about the cost but decided to purchase one before I visited Silverstone for the British GP this year. Highly recommend it to anyone.

Hi Henry, my best and cheapest peice of gear is a " zip-freezer bag". This works in comjunction with my PD clip. I can put my camera in it and it will still clip into the PD clip. This acts as a cheap weather shield, which is useful if your camera is not fully weather sealed.

My favorite camera gear is my 2N camera strap made from climbing rope. They are quite handsome. The most difficult part was choosing a color pattern. I recommend something discrete, although the bright red is dazzling. Honestly, every time I open my bag I smile. Worth a look.

Hi Henry amazing video as always. Really look forward to watching your video every week. As you said in this video wearing glasses is a real pain to use the view finder so the best none photography item I have bought is a 99p glasses cord so I always have my glasses to hand to look at the back screen and no glasses on to use the view finder. Keep up the amazing video’s 👍

I love the clip too. So worth the money. Something I love is a glass ball. They come in all shapes and sizes and can make for some fun photos. Probably not really your thing Henry, but thought I'd mention it for anyone else 😊

A bit late to the party with the comments as just back from a weeks holiday in the Cairngorms with the family... but I always get the opportunity to shoot whilst we are away also. I love the area for all the same reasons you have described and its a good area where I can mix photography and activities to keep the family loving the area as much as I do... As for photography accessories... Id say the biggest accessory that has improved my photography that does not come out a photography store is without a shadow of a doubt my chest waiders. I started with wellies which I still wear all the time but got bigger aspirations and progressed to the chest waiders. With them ive managed to get to places I'd never have got too by waiting through water... Safety first and you need to be very careful... but they defo have allowed me shots of waterfalls id never have been able to get otherwise! As for a photography store purchase id prob say my canon bluetooth remote trigger which I have on my old Scout lanyard which just be 30 years old now but still the perfect way to have it round my neck... and others have said it but the bento geared tripod head really helps with composition! I've just put the capture clip on my Christmas list!

I bought a Peak Design clip about two years ago. One of my favorite ways to carry the camera and keep my hands free when hiking through tough terrain. Their straps are also great. Thanks again for some beautiful scenery.

The Peak Design clip has to be one of my favorite gear purchases in recent memory, along with their Clutch hand strap. When I first got the clutch I didn’t even know how to put it on the camera, and thought about sending it back! Once I finally figured out how to use it, it’s my favorite camera strap and I bought another one for my second camera. It makes it so easy to grab the camera and take a quick shot without a big strap getting in the way!

I'm more of a wildlife photographer but to me the best bit of simple kit is the humble beanbag.

I love my Peak Design Clip but a word of warning. It destroyed my cameras base plate. The attachment under the camera isn't designed to take the bumpy motion of being attached to your chest like this, especially with a heavy lens so if it's not a full metal base plate be careful!

I bought a Peak Design clip this year and I love it! Makes life so much easier when scrambling around river banks, or over rough terrain where both hands are needed, but need to keep the camera easily accessible.

Got to agree with you but I didn’t buy mine, my girls asked me what I wanted for Christmas last year and got me half each. I have had a cheaper one but won’t mention the make, it was ok for a while but then the spring fell out so the camera didn’t lock in, I paid the price for that.

Camera connect and control app. I hard wire my 7Dii to my Google pixel phone and use my phone like a mirrorless on a massive screen. I've even used this app on my very old galax tab 10.1 and have a 10 inch live view. I don't use it all the time but will be using thisafternoon photographing fungi. The app was £10 and 1000% better than canons app. I bought a phone mount that attaches my phone to the top of the camera via the external flash hotshot

Another great video. My favourite little bit of kit is a mini spirit level that fits into the hot shoe on top of the camera. Much easier to see than the little one on the tripod

The Capture Clip as an absolutely necessary part of my kit. The vast majority of my photos are ones that weren't planned and many were fleeting images that would have been missed if not for the clip. As far as sunglasses go, I wouldn't be without them when being outdoors. I credit a large part of my continued good eyesight at age 66 to a lifelong use of quality eyewear. I put Chums eyeglass lanyards so they just hang on my neck when I'm shooting. A good cap or hat is another essential piece. It keeps the rain off my glasses and face, plus it's good for keeping the sun at bay which is important as I live at 7000' and am routinely up to 10000', sometimes higher.

Not a landscape thing, but I love a white plastic shower curtain to use as a big bounce-flash reflector/window light diffuser/rain cover or seat on wet grass. A roll of gorilla tape to attach it is handy too. Great channel, subbed!

I love the Capture Clip - perfect bit of kit. I also recommend the 3 Legged Thing Ellie PD Short L Bracket with the built in Capture Clip - it’ll fit your OM-5 and seems to dock better than the original.

I'm so use to hicking in heavy forest where you can't normally see you're destination. Hicking there might give me that I'm going that far feeling. I might be fixated on that. I would be a uncertain about buying a knock of clip when it's holding all your money.

I will have to disagree with the title, I saw it and immediately thought this might be it because I agree 100% as it is the one thing that has kept my camera close to hand on walks and much preferred to a strap.

I bought an Utebit camera clip a few years ago and I see they can be bought today for around £12. I bought this cheap version just to try the idea of easy and quick access to the camera out and it is still permanently fixed to my backpack. Probably not as slick as the Peak Design version but if you just want to try the idea out it's not a huge investment.

Thanks, Henry, for another wonderful video. I'm glad your eye surgery went well. Talking about game changing gear, I have to mention the L-bracket. Such a simple gadget has become inseparable to my Z5 and the flexibility it brings to bear for tripod use cannot be overstated. I enjoy it every time I use a tripod and it is now indispensable.

I also bought the same peak design clip about a year ago and in that time had quite a few photographers ask me about it. Such a great piece of kit, clip on your camera, spare battery in pocket ( as I shoot Sony ! ) and you're good to go.

The most useful photo accessory I recently found is the V2 Magnetic Hybrid VND/CPL (3-7 Stop) Filter from Freewell Gear. I wasn't even aware that a ND/CPL combo filter was even a thing much less a VND... so much quicker and easier to use out in the field than standard filters. I will definitely check out the Peak Design camera clip, though. Thanks for another great video, Henry!

I also like to walk around with my camera out, so I am ready. I have tried the PD clip, but as I use regular backpacks, I have found that it doesn’t fit all straps if they are thick. This isn’t‘ unusual equipment’, but I like to use a holster case that I attach to the hip belt. It’s a bit clunkier, but the camera is protected a bit (if I fall, which I have…). I also use Case filters with a magnetic lens cap - which is brilliant if you ‘hack it’ with a piece of sticky tape for ‘handle’.
