Yes but we’ve seen Booker play to this high level or at least close to it without Kevin Durant. I know he had an all-time stink in game 7 last year against Luka, but the year before when they got to the finals, he was special. He’s actually been playing like their best player so far in these playoffs even though he does have the luxury of having Kevin Durant.

Wosny Lambre has some of the best basketball insights. Loved the section here where he's talking about Curry's improved core strength and his ability to resist the kind of bullying he was susceptible to back in 2016. Those kinds of insights only come to those commentators who have a keen eye, and a real love, for the game. More of this please, it's excellent.

@THE_BEAR_JEW
@THE_BEAR_JEW Жыл бұрын
Cmon now yourself lol. Steph had 3 teammates averaging 17+ PPG throughout the entire playoffs. That's huge. You can go back and look at those series. In all of them he had at least 2 teammates going anywhere from 18-22 PPG on great efficiency. The entire team balled out. Steph just got the praise because of course, he's the star of the team and he always managed to contribute a few points more than everyone else (but on more shots and often less efficiency). Steph plays little to no defense (and he's rarely guarding the opposing team's 1st to 3rd best players), Draymond runs the offense half the time, he doesn't rebound, his assist to turnover ratio is ok. Steph is crazy when he gets hot for sure. It's awesome to watch when he goes nuclear, but last year's run was definitely not proof of anything other than that roster having serious firepower and excellent wing defense. This first series vs the Kings, I think Steph reclaimed his spot at the top somewhat because he was head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates. We're talking 30+ PPG, nearly 50% shooting, playing 40 minutes a game, still no defense at all but he was 100% the reason they got past the Kings.
@Browns12Fan43
@Browns12Fan43 Жыл бұрын
@@THE_BEAR_JEW in last years Finals Steph averaged 31 on 48/45/86 against an all-time defense. His second leading scorer (Wiggins) averaged 18 on 44/29/69. His third option (Klay) averaged 17 on 35/35 splits. Only one other player averaged over 7 (Poole) and he was benched every other game. Stop acting like these are the 2016 Warriors. He's the only guy without a weakness but people are scared to crown him in everything he does because he's 6'3 and it's never been done before. These talking heads can't comprehend what he does and how he effects every aspect of a game.

@@THE_BEAR_JEW Every player needs help to lead their team to championships. Every team needs other players to produce to reach a baseline of points in a game, and no player makes it easier for his teammates than Steph does because of his gravity on and off the ball. He’s also become a GOOD defender who no longer gets hunted. They stick him on lesser offensive players to preserve his energy, but he’s no longer a liability.
@THE_BEAR_JEW
@THE_BEAR_JEW Жыл бұрын
@@zalemdreams I never said you don't need help. That's a given. However, Steph has had the MOST help out of any superstar recently. In 2019, Kawhi had 1 teammate averaging over 15 PPG in the playoffs. In 2020, LeBron also had 1 teammate averaging over 15 PPG in the playoffs. In 2021, Giannis had 2 teammates going for over 15 PPG in the playoffs. In 2022, Steph had 3 teammates averaging over 15 PPG through the entire playoffs. 1) Steph's defense is not good. It's passable, and that's being nice. He's never tasked with tough defensive assignments and even then he's just passable. 2) EVERY superstar has high level gravity to them. Steph is not unique in that aspect. And just as Steph's gravity makes it easier for his teammates, his teammates make it easy for him to get open. Draymond is constantly setting screens. Klay is always a danger. Wiggins and Poole can actually create their own shots. So it's not like Steph doesn't benefit from having these guys.

The problem with Jokic's D is he does not care what it looks like. When a big guy gets the ball near the basket he plays the odds. Unless it is crunch time do not risk a foul getting called, move in position to get the rebound if he misses or get the ball fast out to initiate the fast break. It looks bad when he stands there and does not risk a foul, but it works. The Nuggets want Jokic in the game more than they need a couple blocks. Also watch Jokic on D he is orchestrating the D just like he does on the other side of the court.

the problem is giannis shooting ability. that's a big, glaring problem that severely limits him... i mean, just look at what happened with ben simmons for crying out loud. giannis is way too aggressive to fall that far, obviously, but not being able to shoot in the modern NBA is a real problem and basically precludes you from being the best in the league, or honestly even realistically being in the discussion.

I'd go with Jokic simply because he's been so dominant in the reg season and even better in the playoffs over his career. Curry has been surrounded by all time level guys for years which accounts for the championships. Jokic, btw, is the 13th leading ppg playoff scorer of all time. So much for the silly narrative that he doesn't get it done in the playoffs.

Jokic has a sick defensive IQ, like everything else. But he has no athleticism and suffers from that. But being 7 ft helps. Plenty of top tier stars play D. Heck, CURRY plays D, though he still suffers from being small. But Giannis? Butler? Jordan did. LeBron did something other than blocks from behind at one point, though he was always a guy you could blow by. Duncan did. Dream did in spades. But sure, there were guys like Dirk. Again, lack of athleticism. Peak CP3 was a great defender. Peak Kobe. Garnett. All the guys on this list plus a few were very competitive defenders.

If we're talking current best of the best, to me, its quite straightforward: 1. Steph 2. Giannis 3. Jokic . Obviously a subjective topic . There are good arguments for all the players that were the focus of the discussion . There was a time when the question could be posed " which player do you want to choose first to build your team around ?" but even that is subjective. The thing that makes Giannis, Jokic, and Curry so great is that even with their accomplishments they want to improve and will put in the work to improve . I have no doubt that Giannis will work on his foul shot to ensure he returns to form in that area and improves.

When he is on the floor he is still arguably the best player. He handled KD in the first round when he was on the floor. Unfortunately he can’t stay on the floor and availability is a crucial ability - especially for the MVP conversation. But for the 19 playoffs - he had it.

I love Jimmy butler but one series does not make you a conqueror. Also on that same logic I don’t think you can kick Giannis out. Embiid should absolutely be in the convo based on the last three seasons body of work if he comes back and does great. KD also has such a huge impact on the game that he does too. If you go with Jokic, KD, curry, giannis, or embiid I don’t think any of those are bad takes. Shows how good of a state the league is in. Booker and butler are laughable because for an extended season plus playoffs no one is taking them over any of those five or tatum and luka.

Listen to his explanation. If he gets through the gauntlet he would need to get through, carrying a bad Heat roster to a championship, there would simply be no argument. He doesn't have the title now, but the path is there.
@as5622
@as5622 Жыл бұрын
@@magicnoah1579 it’s a fair point but I guess the part I disagree with is we can say that about nearly anyone. If the Knicks win a title will we crown Brunson or Randle the best player in the league because it will take a Herculean effort to get that done. I just feel like we get recency bias pretty easily. Two days ago AD was arguably the best player in the world and after one bad game people are back to he is a Robin to Lebrons Batman. I love Jimmy butler and think he’s one of the most underrated players ever but I think we have to view him on the entirety body of work which is why I won’t write off Giannis because aside from this year he is always available and gives it everything he has and changes the game in so many ways.

Mr. 50 Cents Embiid (available only 50% of his career) can't be BNP...availability counts (a lot). A player who isn't around especially in the playoffs can't be "best" at anything, even if they give him the MVP this year.
