Congrats on 10 years Ben. Yours is one of the first channels that inspired me to make some videos of my own (not to mention the book deal). And I won't feign that my channel's generic-sounding name and orange insignia aren't just a little bit derivative. Here's to 10 more!

Do not undervalue yourself. You would be shocked at what is possible to learn if you start reading research papers and frantically googling everything you don't understand, consult a textbook or two, and filter it through a reality check of actually executing a project. The most difficult part is to believe in your own capacity to progress that far enough to take failures as enjoyable challenges to overcome rather than walls you slam into.

Congratulations on 10 years to one my my favorite KZfaqrs! Have you ever thought about doing any projects with Terahertz radiation emitters and detectors (like those in airport body scanners)? I feel like it's one of those things with very little information about online, and would be really cool if you can pull it off in a home shop. I know its something I should do, or build, myself.

Ben, your channel has long been one of my absolute favorites, not just for the content (which is amazing) but also your somewhat “no frills” approach to video post-production. You present information clearly, intelligently, and in a manner that doesn’t patronize or lecture your audience. It’s reminiscent of having a cool neighbor or cousin who’s always got a project going, and wants to show you something interesting in his garage shop-and I mean that in the most complimentary way. Also, I sincerely appreciate a channel that doesn’t overtly clickbait, and doesn’t need a minute-long, boilerplate, intro/extro sequence. I wish more creators would just abruptly end videos with “See ya next time, bye!” ...that makes me smile every time. Your methodology and projects drew me in of course, but the video style kept me coming back for more. Applied Science, Practical Engineering, and NileRed remain tied for my three favorite channels. Keep up the amazing work, and thanks for all you do!

10 years! Nice achievement! BTW, there WAS a video of someone pouring LOx onto a lit barbecue that I saw about 25 years ago. George Goble from Purdue University, the inventor of one of the first HFC's to replace CFC's in refrigeration, published a video of himself pouring a gallon of LOx onto a barbecue. He did it a couple of times the same year - until the local fire department asked him not to do it again.

I, for one, really liked the idea of the cookie machine. The recipe on the back of the chocolate chips isn't optimized for making the best possible cookie, but for making a good cookie that's easy to make. My favorite recipe uses browned butter and more egg yolks than whites. Neither of those things are going to show up on the chocolate chip package. If I were to design a cookie testing machine, I would have a separate feeder for egg whites and yolks, try different ratios of brown butter to regular butter, and I would use all white sugar and have a molasses feeder rather than messing with white sugar, light brown sugar and dark brown sugar. Another of my favorite projects was the water jet cutter. Interestingly, there's now a desktop water jet cutter commercially available. It's more expensive than your setup, but it has its own CNC gantry, so you don't have to own one to bolt it to. It's still out of reach for most hobbyists at $8k though. I have been hearing about people building laser water jets in their home shops. That would be an interesting project, not sure anyone's documented that on KZfaq yet.

I have personally always liked your way of just throwing a new video at the channel with usually a random, but interesting topic. The rather wide arrangement of topics makes the channel somewhat interesting, and the fact that each video is having some proper time being spent on it, instead of rushed to meet some release schedule is honestly making things better. To a degree I partly do the same, but way worse... And my lack of video editing patience and that the camera is eating my footage isn't aiding things either. For better or worse I have found myself holding back the real large and interesting video ideas I have out of fear that they won't turn out sufficiently good, then there is the fact that talking to a camera makes one think in the moment, forgetting details, overlooking things, and generally making a fool of oneself. Usually when one works or explains something, one doesn't have the same time crunch as when one attempts to make a more or less concise video about the topic. I have recently figured that a lot of technical channels do voice overs for logical reasons.

I really enjoyed the cookie making machine series. If I remember correctly, the issue you ran into was that the viewers who were bakers discussed that the order and method of operations (mixing, proofing, baking) could change a cookie in significant ways (texture, flavor, etc), and so while your machine was impressive (it was), it only considered the variable of ingredients. At least, that's what I inferred from the comments.

What I find nice about your videos is that you focus on the process of getting to the results and showing that most ideas don't work out right away. Looking at the ususal high-gloss project video it seems like everything is easy and straightforward, and that thinking sets you up for failure in doing an actual project yourself.

An instant favorite since I found it a decade ago and it remains at the top of the list today. My only criticism is the same one as I have with Tech Ingredients; I'd love to see longer follow up videos of some of the projects, eg. with the Raman scattering spectrometer and Zeeman effect stuff. Thanks so much! The homebrew MRI is still in the cards. I was going to do a collab with Alan Yates, who is way more talented that I am. Come to think of it...maybe I should ask him what he's up to these days...

I remember when the channel was just Ben Krasnow. I think I was one of the first 1000 subs. So that means I've been watching you for 10 years? Crazy. Keep up the good work!

Only 250 videos? The information density of each video is crazy with how much I feel like I've learned from this channel.

Congrats on 12 years (late to the party, I know). I have long been a fan of your videos, and am putting together a list of the best youtube channels I have found, while including a video to showcase "typical" videos. I chose this one to show off. You really have quite an inspirational channel, Ben, and I'm glad that I could observe your journey!

Found your channel somewhere around the critical CO2 video and still to date is one of my favorite channels. You are excellent at walking through really complex subjects and extremely humble with your wealth of knowledge. I admire your ingenuity, curiosity and humility. Congratulations to 10 years and many more to come!

How many of you wish you had a friend like this guy to hang around with and just build anything ? I wonder what his forts and tree houses looked like as a kid lol.

I’m down for another one of these. I don’t have time to watch all of your videos so it’s great to see a lot of them in one pace. For the videos that I have seen it’s still fun to re-experience them.
