One of the big reasons why I need to get myself one of these is mainly for capturing gameplay. If you have a ps3, you know the hdmi signal is encrypted and the elgato will throw a fit. The AV/Comp signal on the ps3 doesn't have this. And since they're interchangeable between ps2 and ps3 (and maybe by proxy ps1?), it cans serve two different situations.

thanks for this, i recently bought ps2 slim PAL and i used av2hdmi (rca to hdmi), im not satisfied with the output, i will next try the ps2 to hdmi :) hope this help me for better output,,thank you

I found the KAICO brand HDMI adaptor is far better. It supports both Component and RGB. The video quality is excellent plus the dongle is on a short cable which allows more flexible installation. Those other dongle require 2~3 inches of space behind the PS2 because of they way they stick out, which is a problem if you put your PS2 on shelving or in an AV cabinet.

I don't see why they wouldn't make it 90 degrees towards the chassis and make it a bit wider so it sits against the chassis instead of sticking out awkwardly. Could even make connectors surface mount on either side of the PCB and have it sit flush with the chassis like the network adapter.

I’ve used that dongle with the white ps2 to hdmi logo, for some reason it doesn’t show the whole Ps2 startup intro. Did you manage to find a dongle that doesn’t suffer this problem?

Yup bought the ps2 to hdmi last year, never going back to av jacks the best one is the only one you'll need lol excellent video output

Your scart cable is not a RGB scart, is the PS1 composite scart cable and it doesnt have 21 pins like the RGB scart, buy a RGB scart and you will be amazed how exellent is the image quality, better than HDMI dongles and component cables

Once again, the V1 is clearer (sharper) and has better colour than the V2. So they made it worse? V1 is the best option. If you make another one please put the yellow hdmi BEFORE the RGB in the comparisons. So we can see a better comparison between RGB and Component. Thanks.

What’s a good solution to play PS1 games on a PS2 via a converter to an HD TV? It seems that none of the cheap options are any good. The only solutions I’m finding are very expensive for casual gaming. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah I've been facing this issue too. Unfortunately it's not just PS1 games that won't work on these; The hardmodding BIOS screen and homebrews (such as OPL) also end up not working due to their low resolution. I assume a dedicated upscaler would do the job, but otherwise it does look like there's no other easy way.

Not all PS2 consoles can play PS1 games... So watch out! The phat 1 can do all of them.

@@zaandam0172 false, all PS2s can play PS1 games, it's just that no PS2 is 100% compatible with PS1 games, even on the 3000x models of PS2 there's around 40 ish games that have issues or don't work. The slim models is where PS1 game compatibility took a hit, but are still compatible with the majority of PS1 titles. There's around 150 ish PS1 games that have issues or doesn't work on the slim PS2, and there is around 40 ish PS2 games that have issues on the slim PS2. You seem to be confusing the removal of the hardware based PS1 hardware with lack of PS1 support, they just moved to software based emulation.

Only couple of games can use the 480i signal out. So nope.. it's more of a plug and play hdmi solution. That's it.

after doing some research i went for the retrotink 5x pro, fed up of peeing around with the cheap chinese clones that are basically garbage. now i can play PS1 and PS2 games perfectly with no messing about

@@baldigang7034 Hi, i love the 5K pro, it is on the expensive side but due to the fact you can use on many platforms it is a no brainer. The RGB > Scart adapters i designed are great, so far i have fully tested the PS1, PS2, Gamecube, SNES and Amiga. My design uses 2 parts, the adapter connected to the console is a tiny adapter that has HDMI output. The other end is a Scart connector with HDMI input. You simply use ANY size HDMI cable to connect them and you have perfect RGB cable that you can finetune on the 5K pro to your personal taste. The cost to build would be about $20 (plus your HDMI cable). The Scart adapter would work on most platforms as all the needed components for the various platforms reside in the console end adapter. I am getting around to do the remaining platforms on my list, waiting for parts is always a slow down factor lol. There is no need to buy expensive cables for your platform. This design is just as good and the fact you are able to use professionally made HDMI cables means the signal is great. There is no hand soldering wires :). I need to find a way to post pictures without the need to sign up to an annoying app that mines your data. edit. The adapter plugging into the PS1/2 for example is tiny, (at least half the size of the adapters shown at the beginning of this video so there is minimal "droop"
