HI Julian. So far so good. What I love about this pump is that as a hand pump I can rely on it to get my tyres quickly to the right pressure. Something that I've not had with any other hand pump. At the Great British Escapades event last weekend I didn't even bother taking a CO2 inflator. Just used this pump before the race to set the right pressures and all was good.

Totally happy with it after here in Oman. Did adjust my tyre pressures on the go between road and gravel.

What was the response from Silca? I find a companies actions when faced with a defective product say a lot about it. I will keep my eye on it. There was no advice about maintenance in the box i.e. oiling the cup or changing seals.

Turn Cycling They said they would send a new one FOC but it never arrived. Probably stuck in BG customs somewhere. I would probably consider buying another one. Lezyne on the other hand - no chance!

@@e10climber 😂😂😂 Blame customs then. The pump was great on the last gravel descent here in Oman when I split the tyre with 15km to go. Went totally flat, bunged a dynaplug in, pumped up to 35psi and ready to rock and roll again.

The more I use it the more I'm impressed with it. Stopped taking gas canisters with me now and last race I actually didn't bother throwing a track pump in the back of the car.

Hi there David, yes it is a bit longer than most. But it works better than all of them. I've used this in anger a lot in the last 3 months and I just get more and more impressed with it. I no longer take gas cartridges or worry about setting pressures when I travel with my bike. This thing is just reliable and capable. I either put it in a back pocket or generally I have a frame bag on so carrying it is not an issue for me.

I bought one of these recently, and had the same issue. Talked to Silca about it, and they gave me the following advice: The gasket on this pump is pretty tight, and takes some breaking in. To aid this process, it apparently helps to put some vaseline on the gasket to help it break in. Also, unlike their frame pumps (the Impero), you apparently do not have to put the chuck on as far as other pumps (only need 10mm of the valve in the chuck). Both of these considerations will apparently help with the air release issue when removing the chuck.

Ah, the iPhone is water resistant, it will be fine (has been fine when using it for this in the rain and wet :-)). And I'd rather know tyre pressure than not on a super long ultra race where you are going to need to check and pump them up.

Yes I still have it. It’s good as long as you service it now and again. No pump survives no servicing :-) I also have a Lezyne Micro Floor drive which is excellent. I just stick the Silca pump in my jersey pocket if I have no bags on the bike.

Hi there Miles, sorry I have no idea about the Android app as I'm definitely in the Apple EcoSystem. They do a non-bluetooth version (but I think it's only about $20us difference in price🤷🏻‍♂️). Given how well it works as a pump and ignoring the BT part then I would still highly recommend a Silca. I do have a new first look at the Joe Blow Booster Track Pump coming out shortly though.... 😀

It just took a bit of practice on the removal technique. Now I inflate 2psi over and it’s all good. However, yes it requires a battery (if you want to use the pressure gauge) and yes the app may not get updates (it does one thing, it wont need new functionality just the odd bug squashing). However I stand my my original assessment. This is the best mini-pump I’ve used. Just used it to properly reseat a tubeless tyre that had popped off the bead and up to 60psi no issues. No other mini pump I’ve used could get close to that. It means I can only take this and no gas canisters, no track pumps. That’s awesome. But everyone can chose what works best for them. What do you use? Is there something else worth checking out?

Yep, I get this is a very expensive bit of kit for what it is and not everyone will think it represents value. However, it is the best hand pump I've used. Trying to get tyres to a consistent pressure with a small hand pump with no gauge is pretty much impossible. For me having the right pressure all the time is important and on that basis this delivers. It also means I don't have to worry about finding a track pump when I fly somewhere. I ride a lot, in a lot of different places so I fly with my bike a lot. That does make me a more unique use case for sure :-) Plus it is a delight to use, the construction is first rate (notwithstanding Ben's comment below). If you are good with your Airstick then brilliant, probably some better uses for the £85.

Unless you are a track cyclist on wooden boards then no one needs 110-120 psi. Check out some of the leading tyre pressure calculators. Lower pressures are faster and more comfortable. If it feels fast then your tyres are too hard. All down to how humans perceive speed. I run 25mm at 75psi and 32 at 55. 110-120 will be slowing you down.

@@TurnCycling Not if your on the rider weight limit. It's not perceived speed, it's real speed. The tires lose 10 psi or more after 3 full days and I really feel it. I come from an exclusive racing bike back ground and have always run tires at full recommended pressure, this is even more important with the weight of the Brompton and also the tires are 3X longer on the ground when they spin at speed compared to a normal bike. To slow wear and hopefully reduce the p word risk I run the tires at full pressure because I'm a lardy arse and need to if I am going to enjoy Bromptonia. If your a lighter rider, you may not need 110 psi, just make sure the tires don't sag. Or if you come from a non cycling or leisure bike background then I guess high tire pressure isn't really an issue. I need to have around 20 mph on the flat with my 2 speed, it has to be faster than my pub/rain bike and it is. And that's very good news. The only time when I have bounced all over the road cracks and lost speed was when I used a racing tire at the recommended full pressure of 130 psi on a road bike. 120 psi is the sweet spot for me on my racing bike. Due to its high weight and suspension block my 2 speed hugs the road and never bounces over the cracks at 110 psi and there it will stay.

@@sandydennylives1392 Brompton will be different as they are much smaller tyres so will run at much higher pressures. Road racing though on 700c tyres, check out all the latest research and thinking. Pro's are not running anywhere near max pressure.

@@TurnCycling Yes, because few of them are over 70 kilo's. The golden mean tends to be 110, far less if they are doing Paris Roubaix when they can go at 70 psi with 28/32 tires.
