Last season I visited one of the individuals in our community, Lisa, who had the most AMAZING Raspberry Trellis that I have ever seen. I absolutely loved the design of this trellis and ever since then have been wondering - can I recreate this for my raspberries? So, I decided to give it a try and WOW - this is 100% my best wood working project to date!

Fantastic editing and that suspense music was hilarious. Our raspberries are out of control, and we need this trellising system.

Nice job! The tensioners are called turnbuckles.

It looks great! I made my husband watch - he’s in charge of building our trellis. Allowing it to clip on and off is brilliant!

Nice! I haven't read all the comments, so if this has already been mentioned... Having done something similar some years ago, I'd suggest when installing your wires to have the turnbuckle(s) as loose as they can get (safely), then pull the wire(s) taut and crimp. Nature being what it is, time will not make the wire tighter... so you might get more adjustment down the road with this. You'd still need to keep enough engagement for when you want to loosen/unhook, though.

There are easier and cheaper ways to make wire tight enough to do this job This is overkill

I'm trying out raspberries planted in large 30 gallon grow bags. (I'm in Pender Harbour on quite a shady lot and the soil is very poor in the sunniest area) A structure similar to what you've made would be a great addition over top. Thanks for sharing!

Why all the hardware and clips. You got the posts and cross ties right. Now just drill a hole in the ends of each one, string some fencing wire through them, go back around and wrap the free end back around the wire. No hardware required. There's zero point in tensioning the wires other than to eventually pull your posts toward each other until they're leaned inward. You're holding up raspberry canes, not a building.

I just used wire and tensioned it the old fashion way that you tension wire ...work fine ...cheap
@blacksmithden
@blacksmithden 2 ай бұрын
@@renitadykstra1123 That makes no sense. Making it the way I suggested or making it overly complicated and expensive like he did doesn't effect the functionality of it at all.

Have your posts warped yet? I’m guessing that the tension from tightening the lines is going to bend the posts in towards each other? I’m curious to hear an update since I’m seeing this video a year after it was posted.

Very pretty, a project to nurture ones inner OCD. i've been growing raspberries for 20 years and i'm online looking to build a better trellis system for them. Blackberries are easy, they stay put. Raspberries grow like geriatric hair, i.e., you never know where one is going to pop up. The even manage to escape my confining raised bed. The challenge i find is they wanna grow outside the confines of the trellis... sprawl. This type trellis seems very accommodating with its open design. i think i may just want more order than raspberries will permit me. The cable idea is better than the wire or bungee cords i've used in the past. Thanks for sharing. :-)

Won’t they start to pull towards each other from the tension over time? My instincts tell me it needs a cross brace.

Mine have been in this support for 2 growing seasons and they grow to the best sun light so i do release them to readjust in june just before they flower if they get clumped - but I tgink that was just because They had a huge grow spurt and were outside their confinement as well

It's a great question Erin! Only time will tell! In the event that does happen then as suggested I'll put some form of a brace in place to keep them where they are :D
