In this video I will do a quick unboxing of the Vostok Amphibia. This is a very interesting Russian-made automatic dive watch with a price point of about $60. Case number: 420. Dial number: 059. It is a great deal. A durable, iconic and affordable dive watch.

Thank you! Vostok - is the best! Respect from Russia! Many interesting technical solutions are used in this watch (if you are interested, see my review in Russian). Sometimes the quality is not the best. But it mostly refers to the build quality. For example, before using in water, it is sometimes necessary to check that the back cover is fully screwed on. At this price, there is no other fully manufactured watch with its glorious history and original designs!

I’ve had this same watch for 8 months and love it. The bracelet is crap, so I bought a Vostok mesh bracelet and it is super comfortable and looks great. I got lucky as mine is quite accurate...no adjustment needed so far. This is a fun and interesting watch. Enjoy!

My friends the bezel of this watch and the Komandirskie are so good. Number one the water is more that 700 time dense than air. The second we move " easily " this bezel using two finger. With one we pull and with the other we push. In our daily life this never happens, if we hit the bezel, the impact going to be in one direction. Tray to pull the bezel with one finger. You see it is impossible.

You can hack the seconds in that vostok, it takes a bit of practice; if you hold the crown at the setting position and slightly put a bit of pressure backward it will hold the second's hand. nice review, cheers.

For those who don't know what this toothpaste polish means, toothpaste is slightly abrasive. You can use it to remove scratches. I know it from the automotive application of it to remove scratches on car paint etc. It can be used fairly safely cause it's only slightly abrasive & won't cause heavy gauging of the surface it's applied to.

I have a identical scuba dude however mine’s the #710 case and I love it. It came with the same bracelet as yours however I didn’t think it was as bad as some reviewers say. The end links and spring bars are the weakness. I replaced it with a black silicon rubber strap from Barton strap company which is out of Texas where I live. I’ve taken it snorkeling, hunting, hiking, and it’s my daily wear at work and it’s held up extremely well.

I bought this watch in December 2020. I got the 120 case with no date and rubber strap. I love this watch. I recommend the 2415.01 movement which is a no date movement. This solves the quick date set issue(no date). For the money-if you like the way this watch looks there is no down side. Yes, the price has gone up but its still competitive with anything in this price range. Its good looking and it feels like it is durable. The watches are basic. You can buy movements for these watch and you can buy parts. Plus these watches are basic enough that the hobbyist can work on them themselves. Nothing comes close to the Bostoc in this category. Its a hobbyist watch.

And when retarding the hands, look at the date disk. Once you see the date disk rise and then fell, this means the cog has jumped the notch and you can now advance the hands. Doing it between 10 and 1 is enough, there is no need to go between 8 and 4!

If your bezel is to lose change your spring for other one, they are not expensive. It is my easy way to solve this problem. If it is to tide, cut a little bit in both wire end. And then polish those end to reduce the metal friction. One time you are happy with your tension, apply a litter grease coat. I like spark plug boot protector grease.

Ok, it doesn't "hack" BUT you can ever so slightly pull the crown when setting the watch and this will make the second hand stop.. thus no problem in my opinion. I have several of these wonderful watches and they are gorgeous and pretty bulletproof for banging around, pretty elegant too in a charming way when you've found the right bracelet for it. I use milanese mesh and a nice leather bracelet in the right colour will transform the look. Most people like their distinctive original look. Mostly keeps within

You can hack the seconds hand, whit the crown pulled out, press it up and towards the back of the watch, the seconds hand will stop moving. Also, you can tighten the spring on the bezel so that it doesn't move so easily - and, if you swim in salt waters with, than salt builds up underneath which makes the movement of the bezel tighter still.

If you go under the water 10 meter is totally impossible to move the bezel because the acrylic crystal is already stop the bezel to move like an emergency break.

If you think the bracelet is horrible, wait until you try to adjust it! I kept all the original bracelets in all my Amphibias precisely because they are original, with the Boctok clasp, and removing and reinserting their pins is like wrestling with the devil! Everything in the bracelet is crude, flimsy, thin and prone to bend, so you must be very gentle at all times and don't lose your patience or you will quickly end up with a bent link or pin. At least, once you are done, the clasp is reliable. Be advised that the original springbars are somewhat prone to rusting; but if you plan to keep the original bracelet you must not replace them, as they are much thicker than a normal 18 mm springbar and this is needed to keep the end links steady. On the other hand, they are sometimes too wide to enter the aperture in many replacement bracelets. In your watch there is no gap in the end links; you were lucky. Normally, there is a huge and noisy gap between the end link and the watch case and this too must be adjusted, tightening the end link wings.

Hi Duarte, thank God I did not seize the bracelet or anything. I would advise to stay away from the original metal bracelet altogether and buy something on the aftermarket. For example a NATO, rubber or metal bracelet. I kinda like the looks of this one: www.strapcode.com/products/mesh-mb-fyb041

Acrylic is very easy to scratch, yes, but very easy to polish like new too : toothpaste, metal polish, special acrylic polish, what you want, but it works very well in 3 minutes !! If the cratches are too deep, you have to fine sand it with polish before polishing it... It will look like new after... Always rinse it with tap water after a bath / dive in the ocean, drying salt should be removed immediately after bath... Never had waterproofness issues with mine, even if I opened all of them for precise regulating with a timegrapher... And no need to change the flat gasket that is compressed without torsion issues with the vostok system... Hi from France !

for couple of years i check some watches of all kind and at the end of the day to me durability and quality is more important than luxury wich serves to the capitalistic mentality, a good example of that is those 100,000 us dollars watches made out of gold, but if you calculate the amount of gold neccesary to create the watch problably not even 2 grand in gold is necessary to make the watch and i know the craftmanship and all that but the painfull part is that, if you bump your 100,000 grand watch to a wall or to something by mistake, will get scratched and damaged, so to me the rugged durable good looking watches are more valuable because, for 10,000 us dollars that watch is supoused to endure some stress if you think about the current state of technology but if you check those pre-owned watches all of them are scratch and ugly and i dont accept that, so rado v10k synthetic diamond all the case and no crown, victorinox inox you can run a car over that thing and any other watch similar to that, the swiss army 20,000 holding the guiness record for depest dive for an automatic watch, in short any watch that i can see a stress test and survive is a good watch and automatic of course, so i wonder why not creating a watch out of tungsten carbide like drill bits what do you think?

Interesting comment! For me durability and price are the number one features I look for. Hence I got a lot of dive watches. They can easily withstand some shocks. I hope they will last a long time. Currently I don’t have the budget for luxury watches. One day I would like to purchase a Tudor Submariner or Rolex Submariner, both sturdy and luxury watches in my opinion :)

In the past i used to think that owning a good watch was sinonimous of economic an intelectual status because one of the most important things in life is time and you are supoused to have a good machine to measure time, now i think way differently i would never buy or wear a natural diamonds watch because all the blood and conflicts behinde diamonds when in fact you can make a diamond in a laboratory under controlled conditions more beautyfull more perfect and even similar to a natural diamond under the microscope, we develop brand loyalty because we watch thousands of tv ads while we grow up yes audermars piguet vacheron contantin breguet patek philippe longine blancspain Favre Leuba Girard-Perregaux they all have a story but we shud start looking at things in a cientific way so stainless steel is just that stainless steel with some shape same for gold and same for any other material lets pay attention to the technology and durability and quality of what we buy according to current state of technology.

@@GadgetsforGentlemen Every uploaded video on the subject of Vostok watches from content creators over the past few years have followed the same tropes because they've all noticed that follow up videos can help milk the cash cow a little more. It began with watch snob creators, who derided the Russian watch in general but notably picked on the strap for some reason, maybe to promote very expensive and silly replacements ($150+ for a watch strap on a $60 watch?) and the date hack, which they thought was a clever discovery, but in fact indicated that they knew very little about watch movements and just how bad this hack was. It ruins your watch, end of story. Modifying a watch will reduce it's value to a collector if you want to sell your watch at a future date. I collect originals, not what someone else thinks a Russian homage to a Submariner might look like. There are still KZfaqrs uploading stuff where they think it is terribly witty and IRONIC to put a Russian watch onto a NATO strap.. Really ? are people still finding this amusing after all of this time? It is so low brow as to be positively knuckle dragging. Why are people still uploading the same old tropes. It wasn't funny or amusing to start with. Make the Watch video saying why I like them with reservations. Make the Mod video where I make it all perfect for myself. Make the performance follow up video. Rinse and repeat. Everyone makes the same series of videos when one honest video would have been more than adequate. 🤔

Ithink it's not true !! Even the russian specialists of Vostok, in their video, all show the same way to "quick" change the date. You don't even need to go a few hours after midnight. Just let the date flip, and go back to eight, and again forward to midnight... etc. Won't break anything !... In this movement of course !!... Effectively, it's not the same in all other mechanical movements... it depends of the type of date change mechanism... I'm quite fan of these amphibians... have one, but soon will received two others, and they are not the last ones lol The first arrived with a quite bad precision, like +35 - 40 sec / day.... I can't stand that... Put it on the timegrapher, regulated it finely, and now it runs something like -1 to +2 sec/day... Fine !! Very happy with that !!... Needs very very small movements to adjust it, so need to have a timegrapher because without, it will be a pain to do it by trial and error method... will need to open it a lot of times, except if you have a very big chance lol Hi from France !!

When you make it and hear carefully, there's juste a very gentle click when you go back past eight, the zone where the date change engage itself...

@@AlanToch Your method is not in any owners manual that I have ever read and that "gentle click" as you call it, is you forcing a thin cam leaf spring in a direction that it was never designed to go, it will eventually break and the sign of a broken spring is the fact that it will now take 3 hours to change date completely rather than a split second.

I think Vostok watches are very decent watches; to begin with they have a clear identity. However, at the same time, I think the company does not do "the extra mile", reason for which I would not recommend the purchase of their product, less in the current pandemic environment. Not from them - Meranom in Christopol, nor from any third party because you might find yourself in a more than likely bad situation, as a buyer and / or for under guarantee services. My point: Vostok should pay more attention to issues like shipment, lead time and follow up. In normal conditions or in "pandemic" conditions, they should not take an easy position about the quality of the perceived service when it comes to lead times, they should engage in a proactive task that reaches the Russian Post, etc., and avoid lost in transit products, which happened to me; their lack of engaging in a proactive resolving task is really unique. They basically have no answers, no actions.. nothing. It seems to be that a Lost in Transit item is just the most normal thing... "it is what it is..". They can blame the Russian Post service to any extend, but, no matter how Vostok pictures it, it is Vostok problem! It is a problem the company has to deal with and they do not show willingness, at least, I did not perceived it. Again, it is not Russian Post problem, it is Vostok's; issues like this create and contribute to a negative perception of the company, it reflects a "third world" image. Vostok, no matter how good your product is, you show no commitment to customers.

@GadgetsforGentlemen
@GadgetsforGentlemen 5 жыл бұрын
I agree on the bidirectional non-click bezel. I dislike this aspect of the watch. Correct me if I am wrong but I think the Vostok has been tested under very tough conditions. Which makes it not just a water resistant watch, but also appropriate for scuba diving. I am not a diver myself, I just love the design of dive watches and the usefulness of a dive bezel for daily purposes. “Real” divers use dive computers these days right?
@sashachip
@sashachip 5 жыл бұрын
Gadgets for Gentlemen dive computers are complex and therefore prone to failure. An automatic dive watch is always recommended as a backup even when using a computer. There are a number of tests a watch must pass to meet ISO certification to have designation as a ‘diver’, not just depth rating, though the minimum pressure test it must pass is roughly 25 BAR, or 250m held for a certain time period that I can’t recall at the moment. Among other tests it must pass, it must have a unidirectional, counter-clockwise rotating bezel. So the Vostok can be used for diving and it will return to sea level safely but it can be dangerous to the diver if the bezel moves while diving. For me, it’s like putting big, off-road tires on a 2WD truck to make it look like a 4x4, or putting a loud exhaust on a crappy economy car to make it sound ‘faster’. It’s all a facade.
@GadgetsforGentlemen
