"Performance mode which sacrifices a lot of the visual elements like ray tracing.." To be clear performance mode still has ray tracing, it is just “simplified for some use cases” according to the developer. The main compromise here is in resolution.

Fidelity mode is better, as it's not just resolution but less pop-in, plus denser crowds and cars

Neither is better, it’s just a matter of opinion. The crowds and cars thing is only in certain areas; not the entire map.

Slightly denser clouds and a bit loss pop in, which you need to HALF the framerate to get? Nah. What's the point of the higher resolution if you can't even make them out when moving the camera due to the low framerate? Performance mode for me. I'm glad we get options though.

@@Nnamzif you can't "make out" the denser crowds and traffic at 40+fps, that's your TV's or your eyesight's fault, not the game's; it's plenty smooth at that frame rate. Insomniac could certainly pump it to 120+ if they entirely removed the foliage, people and cars, but swinging through a dead city isn't worth it. Frames are pointless if you have to play in a ghost town.

LG C1 OLED here - uncapped fidelity 120 Hz was fantastic. Insomniac are wizards.

Same tv. Performance is better if you need 60fps though. Just crank the contrast up a little higher in the "visuals" settings.

LG c2 here, fidelity, smooth and auto 120hz, it's smooth and clear!!! It's like playing 60fps 4k with rt.... And don't forget to Max out brightness and contrast in game settings it's like real life new york during noon time.

That depends on your TV. According to the rtings vrr chart, most new TVs can have it kick in for anything above 20

They’re just so wrong on this, smoothed VRR is the way to go. Who the EFF wants a super varied uncapped FPS. 40 is so smooth on fidelityVRR.

Technically yes, but it’s inpercievable, unlike the difference between resolution from perf to fidelity.

Honestly they should just open up all the options like they do on PC and let people tweak it how they like but give a warning that detrimental performance and unknown issues may occur, and that they prefer you use the presets.

If they did, then they were console players wouldn’t have a consistent optimised experience. You PC players have horrible gameplay. You can’t have optimised experiences, because there are too many varied options. Stuff to choose or NOT choose. You can’t just choose a preset and have a smooth issue free experience.

Oooooo nice tv sir, got me self one recently. Do you not find game mode on the tv spoils the picture by changing the colours and contrast etc? For me it’s very noticeable which makes it hard to use vrr seeing as game mode needs to be on for that feature

Samsung Q90B and 95 are underrated TVs. They have a HDR 4k 144hz display. Less burn in too!

Meanwhile I'm playing 4k 120 Hz, MAX graphics on my PC with an unoptimized, much more demanding build that isn't even released yet. The PS5 is such a crap and obsolete console LOL.
