Looking to create your own t-shirt mockup to showcase your designs? In this video tutorial I am going to show you The Best Way to Make a Realistic T-Shirt Mockup in Photoshop.
You don’t need a lot of tools or Photoshop knowledge to create a realistic looking template that you can use over and over again. I will show you how to achieve a realistic looking mockup from start-to-finish using one of my own t-shirts and creating a displacement map.
You will see how to easily change the color of your shirts, swap out the background image, and how to swap out the design or graphic you want to place on the shirt. Check out this video and you’ll see that with a little bit of time you can create something that will impress clients or you can use your mockup to place your own designs on a t-shirt for your shop.

I agree there is always room to improve! The method I’m showing here is the best one I have personally found to give creatives the most control over how the mockup will look.

Gave it a try using a similarly colored dark grey tshirt, with the color fill layer i can change the colors, but i cannot change to white, when i pick white, the shirt reverts back to default color it had at the start . dark gray, almost black. is it because I picked a too dark shirt?

Thanks for checking out the tutorial and giving it a try! Going from very dark to very light, or vice versa, can be one of the trickier situations with mockups. If you are able to start with a color that isn't too dark, or too light, it will definitely be easier to get that full range of color. Part of the reason is that it can be hard to pull more information out of a dark image, and equally challenging to add detail to a very bright one. One trick I have found that might help is to add an Invert Adjustment Layer to the dark shirt in order to flip it the other way. From there, try adding a Levels or Curves to find a nice balance. Hopefully that will help!

Thank you so much for your comment! I totally understand that everyone learns at a different pace. What I will usually do is pause or replay the part I need to rewatch or use KZfaqs new speed controls to watch the video at a slower speed. I also have this completed mockup for sale in my Gumroad shop for $2-3 if you would like to go that route. Hope this helps!
