I kinda would say the best weapon to raid with is the one that consunes the least ammount of ammo because weapon repair kits is usually not the "bottleneck" in raiding

You also have to factor in ammo availability. If you have access to 300+ 556 ammo...you've probably been looting Tier 3/4 Military Tents zones for 2~5 runthroughs (as a solo player - also accounting for the fact that you're taking other stuff in each run through...not just 556 ammo. Also sometimes you get unlucky or its been looted already.) And if you're on a busy server...I dont think shooting your way into a base will be the best stealthy option. By the time you've broken the wall I'm almost certain there will be other players nearby looking for some PVP and to steal all the hard work youve been putting in to loot this base. Although I'm trying to find out info on how much Crossbow + 22lr rounds it takes...cause my clan has extra bolts and 22lr rounds and cleaning kits for days. We are trying to get rid of some inventory space in some stashes...and build another stash. Right now I'm curious if its even possible/worth it with the crossbow.

The best I've found is the crossbow. About 22 minutes to break bottom panel and frame with only around 50 stick bolts. The time can be reduced by having multiple people and a practiced technique. 4 people gets to around 5 and half minutes and it's quiet

Aim the bow at the frame. As the bolt goes thru the wall. So if you hit the wall in the spot where the frame is, the bolt does damage to both frame and wall.

@@christaveapont9172 Absolute lie. I find bases full of top tier loot all the time. We assaulted one with 5 players inside not long ago with at least 4 dmrs, 2 m4s, multiple other guns, suppressors, ammo, magazines, plates. Plus 2 cars and 2 trucks. My general rule is, if there's a wall, it comes down. Doesn't matter if there is nothing behind it. I can always get more loot.

Even then...finding and stashing all that ammo and the possibility of getting Coast Reset by someone at a percentage of your shopping list...nah. Unless I have C4 and grenades, its not worth the effort esp as a solo unless I have friends to assist. Top notch content tho as usual WOBO!

I honestly just, leave bases alone if I find them. The only time I'll raid something is if it happens to be wide open, or if I have beef with that specific player.

@@C0lon0Every new base found is a target. We immediately come up with a plan. It will continue to be so until the whole building system is redone or removed altogether. A wall/gate and a watchtower is all we get. In such a detailed game, this is unacceptable. New base building should be it's own update, it should be intricate, and it should be sooner rather than later.

Not because you're pacifist, but It's a gamble, really. Amount of potential loot / risk of getting f'd * amount of resources put in to break in (Loot/Risk*Cost, a cost-benefit value function) determines your action if rationality is assumed. However, people are addicted to gambling which makes them become more optimistic about their expectation of average loot distribution due to their primal drive of dopamine rush from breaking into something. tldr- rational people tend not to raid bases. People who are primal tend to raid more bases. Trust me, I'm an engineer and doctor.

Got raided by 3 guys with svals using ap rounds, they broke each gate in under 20 seconds each, idk if that can still be done tho that was like 2 years ago. Still crazy tho

How are grenades at breaking walls? I don't raid, But would have thought.... "If I see a base, hang onto any grenades I come across and revisit the base if I get 6 or 8 or so"

Sometimes over the course of a mere 2 hr DayZ life, you could easily run into 5 or so gun cleaning klits. Happens more often than one might expect, it does to me. In which case, raiding a base is something to keep in mind, with enough ammo of course. And 5 of em is probably more than enough with these recommended weapons.

Damn, in Vanilla it's hard enough finding an Aug or even a single mag for one, let alone 6 !! And weapon cleaning kits are getting scarce as well.

Question - Does the amount of gear hoarded in bases limit the availability of same gear in the wild ? Or put another way, is there a finite number of any item at any one time, regardless of where it is ?

It's DAYZ, man! (also known as an unbalanced game that makes you waste hundreds of hours and tries to be realistic) On vanilla servers your progress that took dozens of hours will most likely be lost because of a raid with glitches.

Repair kits are common items and durability just falls into space taken/raid density. Its raid speed vs raid density(more walls destroyed) that matters to me. That makes .308/54r round guns the best for getting the job done.

The Mosin can probably raid the most walls for a given space if you don't consider melee raiding. But with speed the DMR is the king with a good amount of both.
