There's a whole bunch of free guns available in Red Dead Redemption 2, some are easy to find but others require some serious knowledge of the open world and the story mode based missions within it. Many of the best weapons can actually be acquired in the early game with full customization available, and by following these instructions you'll be all geared up in no time and ready to face anything that RDR2 has to throw at you.

Howdy Red, you can get 2 schofields from the doctors office, 1. Take the 1st bounty from the sheriffs office, before doing the bounty go into the doctors office and run up against the backroom door..it will open and you can take the revolver, but nothing else. After the bounty mission wait 24 hrs and rob the doctors office as usual, the schofield will have respawned ready for the taking.

This is late but you can actually get Jim Boy Calloway’s scholfield at chapter 1 as well! All you have to do is enter the the bar that Jim’s mission is through the back door, aim your gun at the bartender and get Jim Boy Calloway running. I think this will lead him to dropping his revolver. Happy hunting!

you can also get another free 1899 from a random encounter where a man falls off his horse and you need to take him to a doctor. he had a 1899 at his hip and i unfortunately had to relieve it from him.

There's also a "free" Double Action Revolver you can take from Lonnie's Shack in Lemoyne. Just sneak into the place and take it from its case under one of the beds. Just try to not kill everyone, because there's a sidequest that takes place there and you'll need people alive to tell you where the money is.

There’s also a sawed off shotgun you can get from Lonnie’s Shack too if you go to visit it early in the game while there’s a party going on inside, if you enter the shack one of the men will draw the shotgun, kill him and you can get it and get the double action revolver at the same time, then go back to Lonnie’s Shack in the mission with Sean in chapter 3 and then get another double action revolver

2:30 you could get the m1899 for free over here in this mission. But if I recall though, you could also the Carcano rifle for free in one of the buildings here too

You definitely can get the carcano rifle from the farmer in the house, i did, let him spot you then tackle him knock him out then take the carcano rifle on the ground. May take a couple of trys best to save it before you start the mission.

That is correct. However, that backfired when I reached the Mission in chapter 6 where Colm is killed. When I picked up the Sniper from the roof, it glitched next to my hip. After the mission it remained there and was annoying as hell. Luckily I had a save just before that mission. Eventually, I figured out that if I managed to skip the scene where Arthur picks the rifle up by failing the mission, it wouldn‘t be glitched later on. So I do not recommend to get the rifle in Chapter 4 in order to not have trouble in Chapter 6.

In Chapter 6 you can get the Litchfield rifle early and free. Do the mission with Sadie where you go to Hanging Dog Ranch. Before you attack the ranch the rifle will be on the ground nearby.

@@Mercer0 that is the similar Lancaster. But you can get the Lancaster even earlier than the Micah mission. Once you get to Horseshoe Overlook ride over to Rhodes. Go to the side of the gunsmith shop and interact with the guy in the basement. Then rob the gunsmith and you see the option to make him take you to the basement. There’s a Lancaster in a case down there.

My favorite setups are dual Schofields for that real cowboy feeling, the dual m1899 for pure carnage, or a Mauser and sawed off shotgun.

You can get anything free from the gunsmith if you get one of those random encounters with the snake bite guy. After you save his life, you can go to the nearby town and he'll buy anything from the gunsmith for you free of charge.

You can get calloways revolver right in the beginning of chapter 2, you have to get calloway to run out of the saloon before you trigger the cut scene, get him to jump on a horse ride up next to him jump on his horse, stop right next to him, he'll pull out his gun and start blasting, dismount and knock him to the ground and he drops it, boom calloway revolver right in the beginning of the 🎯

There is an even better way if you can get the barkeep to run away you can follow him out then come back and Calloway will still be in the saloon. Easier to get the gun off him

There’s an NPC that Was bitten by a snake, if you help him you can find him in front of the Valentine Gunsmith and he gives you the offer to get something from the Gunsmith for free. I found him in Chapter 2 but I can’t remember where. You can probably find a video on KZfaq!

There is, surprisingly an odd way of getting the LeMat (or any weapon that you've already unlocked) for free, wich is helping a man who was bit by a snake, and you'll need to suck out the venom in his leg. You can encounter him a few times and after your last encounter with him, wait some time and go to valentines gun shop, he will be sitting on the couch. He'll give you any item that's already unlocked for free (just one though).

Yeah, you can save him and others several times throughout the story and get a gun each time. Great way of collecting free weapons that can't be picked up elsewhere.

You can get Micah’s revolver in chapter one, when you and the gang make an assault on the O’driscaol camp you can lead an enemy over to Micah and the NPC will knock Micah’s gun out of his hand then which you can pick up. I pretty sure this works with other gang members weapons

You can also do it in chapter 2 by shooting Micah's left leg with a fire arrow in the jail

You can get Hosea's rolling block rifle after the legendary bear mission. Return to camp with him, followbhim around and when he gets off his horse jump to it from yours. Notice that the rifle is still on the horse. Ride it outside the camp, hitch it to a tree and toss dynamite at it. It will kill the horse and you'll get the rolling block rifle (use the enhanced vision thing, however it's called to find the gun, the explosion can toss it into grass). You'll get the rifle before the sheep mission with John and the horse will respawn

@@RedNitrate indeed ,had to sell my ps4 pro round Christmas in order to pay the rent , but shopping for an Xbox series X .. miss my horses lol 😆 Once we reach Horseshoe overlook in chapt 2, I try to get all the toys I like and strenght right away . I like the rapid fire of the M1899 , wish we could also get the Lemat revolver that early . Next rdr2 game I get , I'll be the premium edition 🤪

@@aliveandfilming2 The graphics are amazing on PC, and the extra FPS is definitely nice. It needs a fairly high end rig to get the most out of it though, and the port is poorly optimized which can require a lot of troubleshooting.

You could get the carcano early in the same rustling mission, go to the house after killing those two people and kill the rancher after he picks up the gun

I got an 1899 pistol from the gunsmith during the poker game robbery. When you knock out the gunsmith he drops it. It only seems to work with the 1899 and Big Jim Callowy revolver equipped but I did not do extensive testing. The only downside is it cant be upgraded at the gunsmith as it seems to treat it as a named weapon and wont show up in the upgrade list.

When rdr first week release, best dual weapons you can get is scofield revolver with volcanic pistols. But after you kill angelo Bronte you can change volcanic revolver with mauser pistol. Volcanic for better damage, mauser for speed reload. I still stick scofield & volcanic because you almost can kill enemies without doing reload using dead eye.

The M1899 is basically the predecessor to the 1911 .45 pistol. Which is still one of the best pistols out when considering ammo, firing rate, accuracy and man stopping power in one package for over 100 years now.

In my version of the game, PS4 story mode, you can get the volcanic piston free at the gunsmith at the start of chpt 2, and another one free as soon as you get an off hand holster.

you can also get the (i think)lanchester rifle by going to rhodes and making the gunsmith open his basement and you can take the gun from there or the second micah mission he gives you the rifle

To get the Mauser pistol even earlier in the game in the revenge mission With Dutch at Saint Denis (chapter 4 or 5) in a cutscene a guy will throw his gun (Mauser pistol) at John so that, after the cutscene you can pick it up

For the Volcanic Pistol I was able to get it as early as chapter 2. On my way to find a Arabian horse (did not succeeded) a guy got bite by a snake and I gave him health care. Later I saw him at the gunsmith and I was upset the first option wasn’t available, though I relished the Volcanic Pistol was on there so I got it. I hope this helps!

The semi auto is one of my favourite guns in the game. Super convenient it can be acquired so early as well, I've included in in several videos in the past and always advise new players to pick it up. Great weapon.

I've run the rustling mission with Uncle a dozen times in a row, and the only weapons being dropped are the Springfield and a sawed off shotgun. Did this get patched away at some point? I confirmed the M1899 is available in the Saint Denis gun shop. Spent a total of a little over 2 hours reloading my save until the mission would become available (it would appear about 70% of the time when I reloaded, but about 80% of those times the mission was locked and I had to reload again), then when I finally made it to the ranch and killed the other rustlers, the one dropping the pistol only ever dropped a sawed off shotgun or a worn Cattleman; never a Volcanic or an M1899. I don't know when or why it changed, but this no longer works.

I never had access to M1899 on the PS4 but on the PS5 tho I can get it, it's still locked tho cause I'm only half way thru chapter 3, so I can honestly say that when I get it that it will be my go to side, I got the Evans repeater too and I'm having fun with that too.

In my first playthrough I got an M1899 early in the game when I hammered one of the KKK meetings near Rhodes. I just did the usual looting and saw one and picked it up. It was well used and never cleaned up all the way. So later I did purchase 2.

There are plenty more guns you can get free. Before getting the Schofield from the dead gunslinger - it's a quest - you can get before that last mission two customized cattleman revolvers: you can get them by guning other 2 gunsinglers (like the one you got your Mauser), the Callaway's and Flaco's revolvers - the name of the guns is the name of the owners. Just gun them during this string and look at their bodies before leaving, as they dropped the mentioned guns. You can also get a pump action shotgun at chez porter very early in the game. There's a lot of foes there so go well armed and ammo full. I believe there are three buildings. Inside a house you'll see a bed and a ladder to climb to a kind of another "floor". The pump action shotgun is there inside a case. In watson cabin, NNW of Wallace Station, you also can get free a semi auto shot gun in the basement - I think it will only be on sell on stores by chapter IV, so you can get it veery early in the game without paying a dime. You also can get free the double barrel shotgun for free in a mission, but forgot what one. The Lancasters were already talked here. Great video. My only problem with getting the semi auto shotgun at Watson cabin is it's in worn condition. So the stats aren't as great and once I buy the semi auto from gunsmith when available I never use the worn one. And it just makes another gun I have to switch through. I wish I could sell what guns I end up not using because of all the guns in this I have a select few that I use and that's it. Rockstar blew my mind by not letting you sell your guns. Of all the things you can do in this game and all the things you can sell but yet you can't sell your guns. Makes no sense to me. They blew our minds with the details of this game and everything you can do but yet blew my mind of not selling your guns.

The double barrel shotgun is in the mission where Kieran takes you to ambush the O’Driscolls in a cabin near the mountains, its inside the cabin, on top of the chimney.

@@gigachadphilmahar8230 yeah, and south of the brainwathe mansion there's another over the fireplace. the rare double barrel shotgun is located, at the hands of a angry hernit, at a Manito Glade house (the oldman will come out of the house with this rare gun), just north of Annesburg. The only chance to get it, so be fast to pick it up after "silencing" the hermit.

I found a red thread in the loads i did, when you have a low lv weapon such as cattleman revolver, the rustlers will drop worn cattleman, schoffield, but when i equip schoffield and volcanic, they drop volcanic and bolt rifle. Do you have the M1899 on your horse when you do this mission? Cause i see you equip mauser. I'm doing 20+ reloads and never get the m1899 =(

M1899 pistol theirs another place where you can get for free theres a npcs that seems to be hurt in the arm and sometimes he has a m1899 pistol he will spawn in randonly around lemoyne area but unfortunately you have to kill him but he'll respawn after a while and get another m1899 if your lucky enough

Totally agree on the Navy, I dedicated a whole section to it in my "crucial changes rockstar refuse to make" video. It's a big fan favourite and a true shame they never brought it to RDR2 story mode.

I found that just travelling around random places and waiting for someone to yell for help and they have a snake bite or they got stuck in a bear trap then wait a little bit go into different towns and then you can get a free gun from the person they say to put it on there tab

Yeah there are multiple instances throughout the game that pop up randomly, a good way to collect free weapons that can't be aquired through other methods.

In one of the mission with Micah you can get two Lancaster Repeater if you have unlocked the rifle early, same goes with bolt action rifle but i dont know which mission and steps to do that

Yeah there's a bunch of free weapons in the game, really good for new players. I plan on covering rifles and repeaters in the future and will show off all the methods for those as well.

He means u can keep 2.. The 2nd strawberry mission u do with Micah where u rob a stage coach? Only to be robbed for it down the road.. He finds a Lancaster and gives it to Arthur! If u already got the one from the gunsmith in Rhodes? Where u save a kid he has chained up in the basement.. U can keep both.. But ONLY if u got the gunsmith one first.. There is a few ways to find a bolt action, but u have to before the mission with Lenny where u steal them from shady bell.. And Arthur keeps one at the end.. Same if u bring 1 back from guarma..

You can get the Volcanic for free from the guy you save from a snake bite and then, with a Volcanic owned (I don't think you need to equip it) slaughter everybody at the logging camp. One of them should drop a new Volcanic For the Schofields you can do the glitch where you can take the first bounty, go through the doctor's door (don't inspect the window in the back), take the Schofield, complete the bounty, wait a day or 2 and rob the side hustle again. The Schofield should have respawned, but just in case drop a save before you rob the place

I personally prefer using revolvers over pistols its a western not a modern shooter but i will collect all guns. Lemat revolver with express ammo is great 9 rounds instead of 6 it can also fire shotgun shells. With express ammo 2 shots in body kills 1 if in the head. Unlocks in chapter 4 sadly no free way as far as i know to get it but you should have enough money to buy it anyway by that point.

Maybe it’s because I know the characters so well and like to role play as the character and play it as it should be played. I don’t do extravagant things when it comes to weapons and outfits. Doesn’t fit Arthur or John. I stick to what the character is seen using on posters or are handed in the game, basically any gun we see them with. I do upgrades of course. But make them look similar to what we see them use

@@RedNitrate oh yeah and I’m not opposed to this way of playing. I’ve tried it of course but for some reason I can’t get behind it. Because I know the characters and how they are. How they dress, how they carry themselves and what weapons they prefer or have. I try to keep it as close to the facts as we know it but of course I create things after 100% completion in my own head canon events with different characters

I generally do the same thing, that is why i'm such a fan of the fact that hair grows... because you can at least clean him up once in a while when the situations is appropriate, but it doesn't take away from the person he is in the posters. If you think about it, the person they are in the posters and by reputation is only a few days out of a whole lifetime. So the style they are "known for" could just be based off of a weeks worth of interactions in a town here and there. Almost as if you spent a week camping and then went to a gas station on the way home, you wouldn't present yourself the same way as if you were going to a dinner meeting. Though, i do think if the gang had access to a crate of pistols, they would be totally on board with using them.

I love the M1899 but it just doesn’t feel right for the time. I stick with the schofield, I feel more like a badass outlaw using it if that makes sense. Good video!

Thanks! I totally get that, I've had a few viewers say the same thing. The M1899's are great for pure carnage, but I'll often fall back on a few of the revolvers when I want more of a classic old west feel.

Do you know if there is any hope for an RDR2 update/patch/fix? I just started a new playthrough and the unique dialogue Arthur has for the other gang members after camp interaction are gone. (And Jack is mute sometimes). I doesn’t effect the story, but it destroys the emersion.

Yeah thats a bug that was introduced with the latest patch.. almost a year ago. Unfortunately story mode doesn't get much love these days, we might be stuck with it for a while.

I need help. I just got this game. I tried it 5 times. A saw off shotgun kept appearing. Also I tried the gun store in st.denis,after the battle at shady bell. There's no m1899 in the catalog. I can get calloway's gun early if you want it early go to the bar where he's at and Valentine push the bartender follow him outside you got to wait for like 2 seconds wait till he goes outside follow him to up to another tree when he goes to the right then come back down cava will be laying on the bar and punch him or go behind him and he'll drop his revolver and you can do that it may do it on the first try you might do have to do it again but it does work

You forgot about the Carcano Rifle that you can also pickup in the cattle rustling side mission. You walk into the house. Wait for the farmer to wake up and grab the gun, You shoot him an pick up the Carcano Rifle.

The rustler mission does not work for the 1899 pistol. I reloaded a dozen times and the volcanic dropped every time. I did get the Carcano rifle from the farmer just go in the house to get him to spawn then kill him he drops the rifle

The method is a little old now but I still get comments saying it works. The RNG can be really bad though, I've had to do it for hours on follow up attempts.

I still get comments that it works, but I haven't tried it personally in a while. It can take a lot of reloads though.
