I love this tag, it was great to watch yours 😉 My favorite books of the year until now are the Legends of the first empire series, I read the whole series at the beginning of the year thanks to your Recommendation and I couldn’t stop!!! It is currently my absolute favorite series of all time ❤️ can’t wait to see what you think of the final installment. My least favorite was the Daughter of the Forest, also read on your recommendation but unfortunately it didn’t work for me at all. I found it too slow and was not very attached to the characters. Anyway even if one didn’t work for me your recommendations normally work really well, and they helped me find my favorite of all time! Thanks!!! 😅❤😊

I think my fav of the year so far is my current read Age of Empyre! It's my fav of the series so far. So good. And yes you really do need to go back and do Theft of Swords. That series is amazing and there are definite tie ins with Lengands of the First Empire, so don't wait too long to read it.

I have loved A Little Hatred and The Shadow of the Gods, both are series I'm planning on finishing this year. I'm currently reading The Grace of Kings. Also, Malice is my favorite series. I loved it so much!

Best of 2023 so far (44 books read): The Book that Wouldn't Burn, Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries, Engines of Chaos, Tress of the Emerald Sea, the entire Legends of the First Empire series, and the Cuckoo by Leo Carew. Worst books would probably be Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo and The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England, but even those two weren't bad, just not outstanding!

I felt the exact same way about both Bone Shard and Priory! Really wanted to love them more than I did.

I think you'd really enjoy the Convenant of Steel series by Anthony Ryan! Has a similar vibe as Empire of the Wolf books.

You should totally read James Islington’s other fantasy series it is amazing! Definitely recommend!

My bests so far are mostly Regan recommendations (Live Ship Traders and Books of Babel series finished, A Psalm for the Wild-Built, Leviathan Wakes, The Lies of Locke Lamora) but I'd add Anything is Possible by Elizabeth Strout as a favorite, and also really liked The Matchmaker's Gift by Lynda Cohen Loigman. I did not care for The Swimmers by Julie Otsuka or a couple of DNFs: The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes and Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982. I read Bunny recently out of FOMO even though I thought it wouldn't be my cup of tea, and sure enough, I should've passed on it!

Aww there were Michael J. Sullivan books on sale at Audible but many ratings expressed that they did not like the narration. Maybe I should have just got them because listening to books in the car is how I mostly get through stories.

I loved Iron widow and I'm currently reading In the lives of puppets by TJ Klune. It's a Klune book in the best way ❤

1. Best book you’ve read so far this year. The Neptune Project by Polly Holyoke. I read it during Middlegrade March. Amazing, sci-fi dystopian with talking dolphins. What else would you need?😉 2. Best sequel you've read so far this year. It's a tie between The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren and The Fires of Vengeance by Evan Winter. 3. New release you haven't read yet but want to. I Keep My Exoskeletons to Myself by Marisa Crane 4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year. Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo 5. Biggest disappointment. Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James. This book was too vulgar for me, and I had to DNF it. 6. Biggest surprise. Direction of the Road: A Story by Ursula K. Le Guin. My book club was doing a theme of "reading from an unexpected perspective." This 19-page story was told from the perspective of a tree. I tried to fit in one more story before I had to attend the meeting. I didn't expect to give a 19-page story 5 stars, nor have it stick with me the way it has, but my goodness. I need to read more books by her. 7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you) Camille Baker. I read her Have We Met? duology and loved it. I will gladly pick up anything else she chooses to put out. 8. Newest fictional crush. Death, aka Suzie from Reincarnation Blues by Michael Poore 9. Newest favourite character. Perihelion aka, ART from Artificial Condition and Network Effect in The Murder Bot Diaries 10. Book that made you cry. The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren 11. Book that made you happy. My favorite of the year so far is, without a doubt, The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez (I read it in February, and I'm still thinking about it!) Biggest disappointment is a tie between The Space Between Worlds and The Perks of Being a Wallflower!

Looking at goodreads it says that there are at least 6 legends of the first empire series. Did it start as a trilogy and then grew? I really like the sound of it but not sure I want to commit to 6 books right now.

Too much info dumping and main character quite annoying.
