After watching your how to make XLR cables video, I tracked down some Neotech OCC silver solid core cable and some Oyaide XLR connectors. After a couple of hours, I had 2 pair of XLR cables that out-spec cables that mainstream companies sell for thousands, All for under $500. And they sound great!!!! Thanks for the heads-up and thanks for a great channel.

The reason a dollar is called a "Buck" is that somewhere in our history the hide of a deer would sell for $1. A male deer is a buck so... Also Ohio is called the "buckeye state" Because the nut or fruit of a tree looks like the eye of a deer. Hence Buckeye.

I tested occ on Ricable Invictus and for us who want absolutely max sonics occ with superb insulation of 8 cylinders coud be improved for the best with occ siver and I believe carbon shielding. Also I tested Kimber XLR KCAG ( 3 wires pure silver) has only ptfe Teflon sounds excellent but not absolute. The question is how to incorporate the best from insulation the best conductor to best terminal ends. I believe that that could be achieved with Neotech rectangular pure silver wire plus kimber single TC copper wire on ground side end all 3 wires wrapped with Teflon tape. This DIY cable should be burned at least 400 hours to achieve full potential. On terminal ends connectors I would choose silver XLR with carbon shielding.

You should try the LessLoss lentz cable. It employs the idea of a bucking coil at each intersection which cancels out the electromagnetic field and helps eliminate EMF reception (so your cable doesn’t act like an antennae) and it does this fractally, where by it has a cable within a cable. (Hard to explain how this works and why this is beneficial in a youtube post)

You won't hear much difference from a 3 foot RCA and 3 Foot Balanced - if any. It's when you want to use a long cable that's where XLR excels.. cancels out any interference picked up by the 'antenna' every cable essentially becomes when a certain length. XLR are must haves in the DJ industry for instance.

I absolutely disagree with you because I just changed to 1 m Siltech RCA source to preamp sets of cables with XLR and the differences are substantial. The differences on very short cables might not be THAT gigantic…but… who wouldn’t go the best possible (still reasonable) way in this hobby of ours. XLR are better in eliminating distortion..plus the volume is slightly higher (they play louder) with the same amp power than RCA. Every detail adds up until the result comes out of the speakers and to our ears and gut 😊

Oh boy do they ever make a big difference in the sound quality. I just replaced some very high-quality RCA cables with Synergistic Research Foundation XLR’s that Jonathan Valin of the Absolute Sound gave great reviews to. I am staggered by every aspect of the music played through these cables now. He compared them to the same companies cables costing 27 times the price and said they gave up little in most aspects of the music reproduction. IMHO, he was absolutely right. My total cost for three sets of interconnects was close to $1800. I’m going to sell all my RCA cables online if I can’t find anyone locally who wants to purchase them. That will help defray much of the cost.
@davedavenport8176

Cable’s for not just connecting components but also speakers are essential. They play a huge part in sound reproduction. Along with the tinning process and what is used with that. Just like your high end components you get what you pay for. With that there is a role of thumb and common sense. If you have a 1k or 5k Amplifier and likely other components (turn table) you don’t use cheap crap cables.

@@stimpy1226 When you move from RCA to XLR you are also moving from single ended to balanced. In short balanced designs have two amplifications, one + signal and one - signal, whereas single ended only have a + signal and a 0 (ground). Generally balanced designs take advantage of this complexity by being able to better suppress distortions while also pushing more power. The catch is that if you are using them as single ended (as an example by using RCA connectors) you don't get the advantage of the balanced design, as you are using it as if it wasn't balanced. It's like having a supercar with a V12 engine, but using it as 6 inline to save fuel. Obviously when you start using it as intended you notice a huge performance jump!

@@anadialog ears can be used as a method for objective measurement, but that will need to be done via blind ABX testing. I really doubt a well formulated test scenario can be formed to show a difference for most of these. If there is, Id love to see that data. The proof. But Im not gonna just take your word for it and I do not have the time and resources to conduct real testing for this sort of things. As for, "just listen". No, not good enough. At Adam Hall they offer a "5 Star" range, featuring a "5 STAR MMF" XLR cable which is about double the price of the "4 STAR MMF KRYSTAL" in this review. Yes, synergy with components and speakers must be right. Nordost cables are very detailed sounding yet a bit thin and lifeless in comparison with others. My dealer once asked me to try out a Valhalla XLR interconnect in my chain … as this cable once got raving reviews I was pretty curious and as it was a second hand cable which a customer of him wanted to sell the price was still pretty high but way less than MSRP. My session with this cable was deeply disappointing for me… detailed and fast but anemic …and didn’t deliver much life feeling. So I ended up giving him this cable back after a few days. This experience in a similar kind of way I had before with Nordost speaker cables (the model below Valhalla…I forgot the name)…

@anadialog
@anadialog 2 жыл бұрын
That is a very good question. If you go and read their info you discover that their copper, called in most cases SA-OF8N id an extremely pure copper and it is, most importantly, a mono crystal copper just like OCC. OCC is probably just slightly better so with their own technology (it's a LC-OFC, which involves annealing) they reached similar products. Plus, they have brought all the rest, geometry, insulation (I guess because I am not reading much info on that) connectors etc at top level, which is also very important. In any case, to better understand the differences of copper and not only check this video I made: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j6mXmbSjnZq9k6M.html

I've asked elsewhere on other creator's videos on this subject, and would like input from anyone who knows anything about studio and other audio cables... I have a "PicoStream" receiver and 2 "PicmMic 2" mic's, and I have a "behringer x32 compact" mixer, that I use at my church, which only has 3.5 studio "aux" jacks available, as everything else XLR and otherwise is hooked up to a remote mixer box or somesuch thing that is inconvenient to use among other things, and was looking to have a cable or two around to have with the wireless microphone setup, just in case I want to loan my setup to the church for a kids play at Christmas or something, if they wanted to do something requiring more wireless mic's than they currently own... So I guess my question is this, anyone know any good TRS/TRRS 3.5 stereo to 6.5 studio L/R MONO plugs(or overall cable brands) that are inexpensive (preferably able to buy on Amazon with my Amazon credit)??? Just something to split a single stereo connection to a mono(separate channel) Left and Right connectors, for running each of the 2 microphones on it's own mixer channel, which IS a feature supported by my microphones and the receiver, is what I'm looking for, and I'm not even sure what term exactly, I'm supposed to be looking up... Also, is there some kind of reference guide or something out there that can tell me what the plug terms are and give me descriptions of their use cases??? That would be a godsend to me, actually... (Edited to add correct plug sizes, as I originally put 2.5 to 3.5 studio, when I meant 3.5(headphone) to 6.5 studio... DOH!!!)

The best XLR cables are soldered by yourself. Get Neutrik NC3FXX-B and NC3MXX-B connectors, those are the industry standard used in nearly any recording studio. Use some cable that comes with a proper spec sheet provided, like Belden or Mogami - skip the marketing stories. Just regular OFC copper is useful because it prevents oxidation of the copper, but skip all the additional nonsense like PSC/PSS and OCC. Instead, look up the type of shielding used and its amount of noise rejection, which is stated on any proper spec sheet.

You posted a strange comment here, overlapping some of my indications: 1 - Best XLR is soldered by yourself. I in fact showed a DIY cable at the beginning. P.S. you need to know how to solder for good results (not my case) 2 - The second pair of XLR cables has Neutrik connectors. in any case forget what they use in studios, its all standard stuff, good but not excellent. 3 - Belden and Mogami are good but not excellent. Again pro stuff with normal quality materials and when they do use high quality materials they cost $$$. 4 - How can you state use OFC and skip OCC when OCC is a better version of OFC. Not coherent. In the video I have proven that OCC can be purchased at extremely low price (n.2) so let's drop THIS nonsense. 5 - All these have high quality single or double shielding with copper mylar etc etc. Specs are marketing tools. The materials and obviously my ears, through this channel are more reliable. Not scared to state this.

Again it’s not a review. Just someone reading the ingredients from a cake 🍰 You can’t judge a cable from what it’s made of. Same goes from cakes.

I am reporting my experience with them. I ate various cakes. Now I am telling you which ones are good and why. I am not just looking at them online! :-) As I already said on various vidoes I am not going to analyze the sound, for me that is nonsense. Cables must be more neutral as possible. These cables are that in different degrees as elaborated in the video.

Sorry, but your video doesn’t provide any actual sonic testing, signal modifications over distance measurements etc. etc.

Yup, not the right channel. Sorry. We value other things before that. Plus we are talking about a balanced connection used in HIfi meaning just a few feet of cable, really not an issue in terms of capitance, inductance and resistance. But there is more to it. Measurements measure quantity not quality. Yes, you can infer quality from quantity but not in every case. That is highly limiting. It’s like trying to establish, which is the best wine with only measurements, impossible.

@@anadialog I did find a channel that does do that type of testing, looks like I’m going the Mogami Gold route … the only one that successfully blocked cell phone and amp interference.
