MegaMain here. A couple things to add is that - crash bomb always sends behind where you’re facing so watch out for that - if mega has metal blade in hand, don’t land on his shield unsafe as it always results in either you taking good damage or dying - Mega’s recovery is fairly linear so always watch out for that and punish. Once you take his jump he’s essentially dead - when shielding leaf shield, angle your shield up and towards him which makes poking your shield with leaf shield much worse. - Mega’s fastest out of shield option is frame 4 with z-drop metal blade but that only works behind him (or in front of they know a specific mega tech) but if he doesn’t have it then it’s his back air at frame 7 so always rush him.

It's not hard to hit people with charge shot. Only use it when you know for sure they can't do double jump. I always bait my opponents with metal blade. They jump over it. Throw something else. They jump again, it's a done deal after that. You have to bait like Guile from street fighter. Instead of flash kick it's either mega buster or ground pound or electric shot.

Some things to add as a mega man player. F smash/charge shot is actually great, it can be used to kill your opponent early if they are off the level and recovering at mega man's hieght. It's otherwise mediocre knockback is still nothing to laugh at in the higher percents either. It's also highly transcendent, so it goes straight through many other projectiles without colliding. Crash bomb can be used to set up for shield breaks. All it takes is one up tilt while you're blocking the explosion. You should also be wary of dairs in the context. His bair has one of the lowest start up lags of any bair in the game, so good mega men will look for ledge trumps. It can also be used to drag down into turn around up tilt which true combos at any percent. Leaf shield is great, but not as much as people think. You'd be surprised at how many moves out range it and it only blocks projectiles like 50% of the time. It's good because of how much pressure it applies if mega man gets in range. Metal blade confirms into almost every other one of his moves, so it's probably his best move. You can completey stop him from using it by stealing it, but you have to learn to use aerials without dropping items if you want to keep it from him for extended amounts of time. If you z drop right before using the aerial, you will regrab the item and your attack will still come out. This is pretty hard to learn though and probably won't be necessary unless the mega man is a clap god. Not knowing how to do this can actually make you more predictable after picking up the blade, so unless you're confident, you may want to avoid holding onto it. That's everything useful I could think of at the moment. Hope it's helpful to all the mega man haters, we need a challenge.

ZebraBoi / Qayyim in my opinion I think it honestly depends more on who your fighting. Like Dark and regular Samus are best at horizontal zoning. Simon and Ricter are best at Vertical zoning. Duck hunt is best at basically zoning in between there. Mega Man is best at timed zoning. Pacman is best at zoning with verity. And Link is best at gaining ground for smash attacks with zoning.

As a solo main since the start of smash 4, I noticed several things in this guide that were either inaccurate or missing info. 1. pellets have a melee attack hitbox on the buster on jab and nair, this hitbox has high knockback, especially on the nair. this can be used as a "get off me" tool at close range to push the opponent back, as well as used for an edgeguard, since the high base knock back and horizontal angle can very effectively gimp many recoveries, and outright kill at higher %s. megaman can jump during the endlag of pellets, allowing him to retreat or cross up. doing so also allows him to land from that jump with an aerial, to further pressure his opponent, or provide additional coverage as he retreats. I noticed a lot of the example footage showed megaman firing and then just standing still after, which is generally a bad idea. also, pellets can flinch bowser at point blank range, your clip was too far away, and its easier with jab and nair because of the aforementioned melee hitbox, but ftilt can too. 2. air shooter reflected doesnt meteor spike, it just pushes you down. the difference there being that it doesnt put you in "tumble" state, meaning megaman wont have to tech the stage on impact and can act immediately. to escape air shooter drift left or right out of the move and prepare to neutral airdodge the follow up from megaman. directional airdodges are slow enough that megaman may potentially still catch you after you dodge his initial follow up to the first air shooter. 3. Hard knuckle is actually one of the worst spikes in the game. the spiking portion of the move is frame 26, making it the slowest aerial spike in the game. also, despite being an aerial, the move is also a projectile, meaning that unlike other aerials it can be clanked according to the 9% rule. this means that any move that deals 4% is strong enough to clank hardknuckle, and doing so extends the active frames of the attack that clanked it which often causes it to catch megaman as hes landing in the endlag of the move, so its not nearly as safe as you suggest. additionally, some recoveries cant be spiked by it at all because their hitboxes deal enough damage to clank it and cover the opponents whole body, such as fox's upspecial, and others megaman must aim precisely for the opponents body without hitting the hitboxes surrounding them, such as DK or Link. 4. neutral special metal blade doesnt have low damage, it deals 6% per hit and can combo from diagonal and vertical throws into his aerials for even more damage output. the item version of the metal blade trades damage, from 6% per hit to 3% per hit, for hitstun and combo potential. megaman can combo itemblade into every single one of his other moves in some way or another, depending on whether or not he zdrops, or throws it at point blank. 5. crashbomb has increased shield damage, and like you mentioned, megaman may try to break your shield if he sees you trying to block it. however, fsmash is the low effort, low success rate of that attempt. at higher levels, megamans will go for landing aerials, such as fair, bair, or dair, into an uptilt follow up. those combinations of moves will all break your shield, but have the added benefit of putting megaman at a closer range where he can punish you for trying to run away with the bomb on you, or follow up if you get caught in the blast while trying to avoid a shield break. generally the best way to deal with crashbomb is to stick it back to megaman, or to distance yourself from him and time a directional airdodge or roll to move invincibly out of the explosion just before it goes off, since the explosion doesnt track once the bomb explodes. crash bomb gains a proximity detonation property when stuck to the stage, which allows for megaman to get some nasty true combo edgeguards into his spike and other aerials. 6. Leaf shields leaves have individual hitboxes, which means that small projectiles and quick attacks can still make it through between the leaves, its not a very consistent shield despite its name. Every aerial in the game, even ones that arent disjointed can clank its way through the leaves and hit megaman, which will make the leaves disappear as long as megaman hasnt thrown the shield yet. After he throws it they become a persistent projectile that will refresh 11 frames after being clanked which can beat out most non-multihit aerials, or at least trade with them at close range. Megaman can extend the orbiting part of the move for a maximum of 40 frames (2/3 of a second) before he is forced to throw the shield, and the throw has very high endlag (more endlag than flacon punch) so if he is at close range after throwing it, it should be a guaranteed punish for most opponents, and definitely a guaranteed punish if thrown point blank. Megaman has an advanced technique to cancel leafshield before throwing it, but it requires him to either have an item in his hand that he can throw, or to pick up an item off the ground. These cancels are useful for making the move safer to use, but the opponent has frame advantage in most cases so they can potentially punish megaman for doing so, or at least block or dodge his follow up after. 7. fair can be spaced while landing to be safe on shield, making it megamans most potent non projectile tool for neutral play. 8. respawn tricks, if hes dropping rush beneath you to bounce you up, buffer upair from the bounce for a free kill, thats really not a good idea for megaman to do and he should almost always for the second trick you mentioned instead. 9. close combat, megamans back air is a frame 7 out of shield option. thats nerd speak for very fast, and it hits behind him. upsmash is frame 8 out of shield, and his both sides. zdrop is frame 5 out of shield and hits behind him. you do not want to hit the back of megamans shield, its safer to hit the front. 10. charge shot is an excellent ledge pressure tool, and landing trap, its not a move to be thrown out willy nilly, but its certainly not as bad as youre writing it off as, it just needs to be used in the correct situations. charge shot also has the property "transcendence" which means that it will only hit hurtboxes, such as opposing players, but also certain other projectiles and entities, such as luma, pacmans hydrant, and most bombs or grenades that can be blown up by taking damage. Also, despite its endlag, megamans fsmash is decently safe when spaced appropriately, just not at point blank. in your example with link jumping over charge shot, he wasnt actually in endlag from fsmash any more and he couldve shielded you aerial, you caught him in the start up of lemons. 11. playing from behind. Despite what you suggest, megaman doesnt have to approach when his opponent has the lead, unless they have a means of killing from long range that he cant easily avoid or outzone, such as a samus full charge charge shot. he can instead opt to hang back and zone even harder with projectiles to drag out the match and chip his opponent up to a higher % to even things out. megaman only really has to approach for his more reliable kill options, since his long range kill options arent great unless he can catch you in a landing trap or ledge trap with fsmash, read a jump with up air, or make the half second in advance read needed for a hard knuckle spike. 12. reflectors. pocket isnt really anything special among reflectors, and still loses to the general reflector counter play of "dont fsmash," but has additional counterplay if megaman gives them a weak projectile to hold in their pocket. since they can only have one pocketed thing at a time, megaman can give them something weak to temporarily remove pocket from play and open them up to fsmashes. megaman has the movement to run away from hero while bounce is active, as well as the ability to outspeed many of his moves with fair or bair. This isnt meant as a critique of the video, its a pretty decent foundation for how to fight megaman, just hoping to provide a bit more thorough insight on some of the lesser known properties of his moves and clear up a few misconceptions on others.

This is very good information I’ve been playing megaman 3 months and I pretty much know how to do all his tech. Ad drop z drop both leaf shield cancels.(up toss item pickup) b reverse leaf shield repo cancel. I can do half of the yoinky sploinky but after the footstool to leaf shield and after the item pick up I always mess up the turn around. The thing is that’s complex about him is how do you play neutral with him. I know the aggressive style grab fair fair but I’m talking about like how mpg plays. I think I’m starting to get it this is hard to explain. When I jump and shoot pellets with megaman (full hop) I jump and the jump again. It’s like he has 3 jumps because it’s like on his first jump his feet never touch the ground is that key to his movement?
