So basically, Duke finally finds people he can relate to, only to find out he's back at square one. Same kinda relationship he had with his dad and old friends, the kinda shit he ran away from home for

Okay, Estevan here, in a brief few frames, showed SO MUCH emotion in his movements and his expression and I love it. Staring down at Duke sadly, averting his gaze, maybe in regret? Ducking his head away from Duke as he falls, then reverting back to his bangs over his eyes and returning to the side of Jaye. Like i just feel like this guy does actually wanna be friends with Duke, but knows that if he tries to defend him or help him, that he'd be next on the block of getting excommunicated from the commune. As for Jaye, I'm not surprised that she's the one singing this. I got the feel she was a tough vampire, no holds barred, the kind who would see hesitation as weakness. She's clearly taking this personally. But honestly, if you reeeeeeally watch closely towards the last frame she's in, where she's singing "YOU'RE GONNA DIE ALONE!", her expression changes. While the butler is smug, basking in Duke's fall, and Estevan went stony faced... Jaye is crying. She's hunched down in a "don't you get it? if you walk out that door, you'll have no one, you're going to die alone!", almost like those last lines were a desperate attempt to get Duke to admit he was wrong, to get him to not leave, because despite being angry at him, she still cares for him as a friend. Honestly thinking about it, even Estevan and Jaye's fighting styles are reflected in their personality. Jaye used knives, she wanted to be up close and personal and get dirty to hurt people. So of course while confronting Duke, she's especially hurt because she likely vouched for this guy and couldn't understand why Duke wouldn't want to fight like her. So, she digs into him and his insecurities, makes him hurt. Whereas with Estevan, he used grenades and explosives as a weapon. A thing that keeps him at a distance, that allows him to destroy whatever his target was... maybe so he wouldn't have to see what he's done? A bit avoidant because deep down, he knows this is fucked up, but doesn't have anywhere else to go, so he chose a weapon that would be instant death for his target?

I need Duke to tell them right in their fucking face: "I rather die alone than live with a bunch of jerks I don't like. Got an eternity, load of time to make other friends"

I was curious what sort of song was only 38 seconds and hit hard enough to be a whole plot point. OF COURSE IT'S FUCKING HEATHERS!!!! Ugh, my heart. I've never wanted to hug Duke more!!!!

Man, my man Duke can’t catch a break. His toxic childhood relationship with his vampire hunter father, the same relationship with Artemis’s nest, and being actively tossed out by them as well. At least he now has Missy. Maybe he and Missy will make a Werewolf friend and totally kick Artemis’ ass!! I hope they do!

Duke is the most poor person, from childhood to his present age. He needs everyone's love, but his failure and fear stop him from doing so.

Looks over at Missi.... "Well actually.." I'm sure they regret it. Not even vampires are immune to change, internally at least.

I really feel bad for Duke I think from the previous episode " A Good Song Never Dies". When he and the rest of the gang went out to kill werewolves there's a side of Duke holding back that he didn't want to be like his Dad or even kill in the beginning when he stumble upon Artemis. When it lead to the gang for Duke it was a betrayal and I think it made Duke did something he regret perhaps from an axe to another material of use ~ Looking forward to episode 5 ~

Theory: After leaving, Duke probably went on a search for the staff (Which Missi now possesses), but knowing Duke, he probably took a couple of things from there before leaving to help him find it.

0:32, I noticed Jaye had some small tears in her eyes at this moment Perhaps, deep down, even she regrets the words coming out of her mouth but is so angry at Duke she doesn’t care

there are a few scenes where Jaye looks more concerned then angry. like during the "your gonna die alone part" it looked more like she was warning him. and when she dropped the knife she looked so sad to do it. like she doesnt want to hurt duke, but knows she has to play her part or end up in dukes place

I feel this is setting up for when Duke finds the vampire cane, he’ll use not only its power to get revenge against Artemis and the “betrayers” but also set it up in a way that Duke’s father and any vampire hunters under his command to fight one another… thus killing two birds with one stone!

Just remember everyone, Duke found a powerful staff and was living comfortably as the master of his own castle, after missi killed him he was happy In the underworld and has tons of friends there, is now married to missi and while their relationship isn't perfect they are living a more or less happy life while these jerks are fighting a war

Not the first time I've dreamed about a Heathers song in the Vampair series! Whenever I listen to "I Say No", I always imagine Missi singing it while trying to get away from being a vampire and from Duke. Amazing work as always!

I like how the title of the video can go both ways. The vamp squad feels betrayed by Duke by not even trying to eliminate the enemy and Duke feels betrayed by the vamp squad because he really thought he’d found people who understood him but it the end it was just the same toxic situation he had with his dad and/or his ex(?)(not sure if they were friends to begin with) human- friends. Not sure if this intentional but if it was then I really like it. It just kinda shows how they both were betrayed by a friend it’s just that they were betrayed in different ways. Nice job as always Daria, can’t wait for episode 5

I can't help but think about the fact that Duke is a vampire slayer's kid. He clearly grew up to hate pointless violence and fighting. But Duke was exposed to the life and world of vampire slaying at least a little bit. Even if his father didn't give him direct lessons in these things, he would have picked up on a few things just by living in the house of a vampire slayer for years. So you have a vampire, raised by a vampire slayer that might be about to get into a fight with some fellow vampires. Even if he only remembers maybe a few facts about how to defend against and harm them, I think that would be enough for him to fight his way out. But I can imagine it would be a very upsetting and frustrating experience to realize his father's tactics and knowledge turned out to be what saves him.

This actually makes sense. People you can't count on in a fight, and provide only temporary entertainment value are a luxury few can afford when your a fleeting power on the grand scale.

Deep down, we've always known that we would see an animatic like this. But a song from Heathers does make this animatic intriguing. Then again, all the animatic/animated videos of the Vampair Series are always full of fascinating story details and fine song choices.

I didn’t think that the little women and the big guy would be like that, I mean; can’t they just see that as Duke’s preference (without knowing the context or reasoning behind it, cause that’s his business and trauma) to not want to kill monsters? I mean even if they’re vampires/demons, everyone’s got their preferences and they could’ve assigned him a different role like gathering weapons and amo I know Artemis didn’t care for duke all that much (and I can see the old guy breaking open a bottle of champagne to celebrate that duke is leaving 😂) but I would’ve thought that the big guy and the little woman would’ve been saddened or at least try to reason with Artemis about duke

The fact that Estevan seems to be the only one who feels bad for Duke says a lot about the type of person he is, poor guy, you can see that he did like Duke.

So if I have everything right so far... Duke's family were vampire hunters. His father being the most dangerous one of them. His mom died when he was a boy. He hated his father not grieving her death. He got bullied for most of his life and left town to start over. There he found a vampire cult. Artemis bit him, turning him into a vampire. Duke enjoys his time there, made some friends. The cult is looking for a staff (The one Duke was in possession in "The Night" video) They also hunt werewolves and the hunters (Duke's Dad). On the night Duke and a crew went out to kill a werewolf group, Duke saw the vampire crew was no better than his father so he said, "F**k it, I'm out." Now the cult is trying to kill him because of this decision. Time skip now Duke is in possession of the staff. He owns a castle and lives by himself. Missy comes in and chase scenes. Missy kills Duke. Then Missy turns into a vampire (because of the staff????) Duke is enjoying his time in Hell having the life of a king. Missy now has the staff and wants to resurrect Duke (for revenge???) Missy is successful, and she then expresses her hatred for him and says "F**k you," and kicks him out of his own castle. Duke is pissed (can't blame the dude) Missy starts going a bit insane. Duke has some fun with a zombie prostitute, and got a zombie std so he can't have sex now. Missy and Duke go to a dance. Duke attempts to get back the staff any chance he gets (fails) Duke tries to poison Missy. Missy catches on. Then they brawl. Duke loses a thumb, Missy loses an eye. After this, the pair decided they're stuck with each other. Yet still trying to kill one another. And that's all I got so far. I'm wondering now just exactly how Duke came into possession of the staff and why Missy came to the castle to begin with. Hopefully in the future we'll get some answers.

I like how in the last frame of her face, the girl looks genuinely concerned. Like she knows the consequences and thinks he won't survive on his own.

I feel really bad for Duke everyone's treating him like shit. I find it bullshit and messed up that man deserves more friends that won't back stabber him or harm him in any way!😇😭🥺😎🤓

I hate that from their perspective they see a traitor who wont fight for their cause. Someone cowardly. And that they are angry and upset that their new friend is turning his back on them. But we know better, Duke is just as hurt. and that breaks me cos im sure the crash out after this will be crazy. I just hold out hope the coven gets back together like i saw in 'Raised by bats' and past hurts are mended.

Oh my goodness, I don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for at least this little bit of a insight into the next episode. When you ended the last one, it reminded me of when we needed to wait a week to see the next Dragon Ball Z episode. But unlike Dragon Ball, you made us wave months and it’s worth it.

You can tell he's never been about killing from the beginning. Human, vampire, werewolf; doesn't matter, he's just been a gentle soul slowly forced in odd ways to harden as he grew up. (I mean as accurately as the narrative of the songs allow x3)

I wonder what Artemis thought of Duke. Duke might have considered Artemis as a friend, but I don't think Artemis really thought of Duke at all. I mean all we see of Artemis is him looking at Duke and then turning away😂 nevertheless I'm glad Duke has Missi now.

0:32 100% Ignoring the song context, Jaye's visibly upset(there's small tears in her eyes) and Esteban(I think I spelled his name wrong) he's not happy with this either. The butler's the one of those three that is obviously enjoying this. So even though Duke did not fight/kill any werewolves(and i think this is mostly where Jaye's anger at him earlier is from) they are in fact upset that he's leaving. With that frame it feels like she's trying to warn him: vampires do not survive alone, they need each other.

Estevan looks really guilty or some sort of sorrowful look, maybe disappointment? Either way I really believe that he really didn’t want this to happen and feels a bit of guilt during this moment.
