Definitely walking! I’m turning 69 and realize at some point walking is going to become an issue, especially when I play with a full set of clubs. Golf is not just about hitting the ball. It’s also the experience of walking in a beautiful setting. Watch the movie, Golf in the Kingdom. It will set the tone on this topic.

I am digging your content and perspective. I have been playing golf since I was 16 in my spare time between my other sports and work endeavors including playing baseball through college. I pretty much walked all the time through college and beyond because of cost. The health benefits have only become a thing post 40 and I am almost 64. I do the hybrid thing now as some of my golf mates can't walk. The best thing about walking is being more connected to the game and taking in being outdoors. In a cart you rush from shot to shot a whack the ball. It adds to my stress of having to many thoughts before I take my next swing. By walking I can think about what adjustment(s) I need to take and how want to make my next shot. Also, I can play a round of golf when no one is holding me up in four hours without rushing. If you want a great push cart, get a clicgear. They are sturdy, lite, fold up nice and will never need to be replaced. Cheers, Bob

That’s a great point! Hitting a bad shot and rushing up to hit another bad shot! I like that idea of slowing your mind down. Not to mention when you’re riding with you buddy and he’s kinda rushing you so he can drive to his ball. I’m convinced walking will definitely be better. And kudos to you for being 68 and still out there walking and being active ! Love that man! 👏🏾👏🏾

I walk when the course isn't as crowded or when golfing with less than a foursome. I ride when it's busier or with 4 to speed pace of play. If you play courses with a decent amount of hills, I'd recommend one with four wheels or fairly wide rear wheels on a 3 wheeler for stability. Other than that, I'd recommend looking at models with add ons available that you don't necessarily need right away. Cargo net, cup holder, umbrella holder, etc. Clicgear brand carts is a good place to start looking.

As a newbie golfer, I find walking gives a better perspective and awareness of the course. Golf is sensory based sport, the feel I get of the course from walking improves my understanding of the course elevations, which in turns helps various aspects of my game such as being able to read a put… if you get what I’m saying…

Walking! It’s great exercise, and I play better when I walk and I think it’s because the game slows down a bit. When driving I tend to rush the game the swing, all of it. Don’t get me wrong I’ll drive when I’m trying to get a quick round in. But if I have the time I’m walking.
@quaypotts

Sounds ideal! Yeah slowing the game down sounds ideal. When I watch the guys on tour they always take their time. Should be no different for us amateurs. So long as you’re not holding up the pace of play of course.
@chads3233

I think it all depends on whether you’re on your own course or if you are visiting a course. On your own course you know the terrain. I believe when you walk your game is more consistent because you are concentrating on your own game and not bouncing around the course chasing your partners ball. Walking you will typically walk to your own ball unless your partner is on the same route. I think using a push cart or electric your game will stay a little more consistent where a bag tends to work your shoulders creating fatigue in the whole body not just your legs as a push cart does. Now, riding is great for good conversations and keeping up with pace of play in a foursome with others in a cart.

I'm really loving the video and topics! Just found you on Friday. When I really want to focus on shots I will walk. Two reason, first when you walk you care about where your shots are going and you minimum your steps. Second, when I carry my bag on my shoulder it's like a weight and then relaxes my shoulders when I at the bag down causing me to take a easy swing.

Just subbed because of the baseline at the beginning of the video. It’s really not a debate - it’s all about what you prefer. If you don’t have a push cart, just ride. Eventually you can get a push cart and like those other golfers said it’s an easy way to get steps. The electric carts are dope - decent ones cost around $1500 But if you join a club, cart fees may be included so that’s something to think about.

I like walking my rounds for the most part especially if it is a course I've played a good amount of times because I am already familiar but if it is a course that I have never played before then I will usually call the pro shop and ask them if they tend to get more walkers or riders and if the course itself is even walkable from their experience. During the season I always have my push cart in my car just in case. Speaking of push carts, I have the Omada push cart. I think it is great. Super light and durable.

Dope video as always bruh! I just purchased a push cart 2 weeks ago. I've always heard of the benefits of walking. The crew and I played a par 3 course just to see how things would go. I must admit, I truly enjoyed the experience. The biggest difference was the clarity in formulating my next shot while walking and taking in the atmosphere. I think that gets ignored at times when I'm riding. Going forward, I'll probably do a hybrid of walking and riding. I purchased the Sun Mountain 2022 Speed Cart V1R. Super compact as I'm able to fit both the cart and my cart bag in my smaller trunk. Best of luck with your decision!

If you're healthy enough to walk with a pull/push cart or caddie thats the best. Lots of perspective on this debate. Do you need exercise, time to strategize, some solace after a bad shot, enjoy standing while you wait during a slow round, or need some space away from the single who doesn't have any etiquette? If so, walking could be your pace. If you want to be side by side with a friend you haven't seen in a while, enjoy playing fast, like to drink and drive, or enjoy having a place for your bum then riding might be your speed. There are equal reasons for both. That being said, I usually ride but want to start walking too for all the reasons you mentioned PLUS I want to see how my game holds up after 18 holes and see who's stronger, my body or my mind. The push carts I have my eye on are both from Bag Boy. The Nitron 3 wheeler because it's easy to open & close and the Quad XL 4 wheeler for it's more upright bag positioning. Both have ample storage, drink and umbrella holders and nice big wheels for easy rolling. Maybe this will be the year I get a cart and see what I'm really made of.
@quaypotts
@quaypotts 6 ай бұрын
“Do you like to drink and drive” just sounds crazy haha But solace after a bad shot is a big key! Nothing worse than hitting a bad shot and racing up to your ball to quickly hit another bad shot.. and idk if it’s just me but even tho I ride, I always feel rushed especially when you have your playing partner right next to you in the cart watching you hit your shot so he can quickly drive to his ball. Let’s do it man! Get the push cart and walk it out. Then come back and let me know how your mental game holds up after a full 18 of walking !

First off I want to say awesome channel. I just came across it with your what's in the bag video. This is a great topic. My personal experience was when I first started golfing I always took a cart. There was no way in hell I was walking LOL. I'll be 43 this year and 2 years ago I decided to walk. Honestly it was the best decision I made. I ended up having to buy a walking bag. Sun mountain makes a nice bag that only weighs 3 lb. Ping hoofer Crazy Lite is another option too. Then last year I invested in a push cart. That change everything again. I feel it all depends on what you want to get out of golfing. A fun time with your buddies on a Saturday afternoon or a 7am tee time a couple times a week. Being one with nature and I feel it's the best way to improving your game. Nothing wrong with both. I just find walking a more intimate experience.

Slickdeals has some great options for push carts for around $115 -ish on certain promo months for clicgear and caddytek. I got a Caddytek Lite 11.5 v3 for black Friday last year for dirt cheap. few things i overlooked that i wish i had on mine: -a bigger cup holder (carry a yeti or stanley, most of the cup holders are water bottle sized) -an area to clip your phone in (you can get a bicycle phone mount if you like keeping score on your phone, but some newer models have phone mounts prebuilt) -the way the caddytek folds isn't very portable. it takes up half my trunk space. i suggest the smaller the better (when completely folded) -mine is really annoying to hit the parking brake. its right behind the right wheel. I've seen newer models with Hand Brakes similar to a bicycle brake lever. -i would try out one where the front wheel that swivels instead of it being fixed. makes turning easier. I bought one thinking i would walk more, but when I golf with friends im almost 99% carting. If i play a round solo, ill try to use the push cart on those days. good luck with your search! -SimuLinks Golf

Lots of wet areas that suck when you're hit the the "cart path only" sign when you roll up. But if we're playing in a tournament, we ride. I enjoy walking the course though, but that's just me. You can buy push carts used and pickup and save some money if you want. For me I needed two cup holders minimum, a basket for jackets and random stuff, a brake (my buddy's cart did not have a brake and kept sliding away on uneven ground). I don't need the fancy ones that operate with a remote or follow you I can push the cart it isn't that bad. Sometimes I wish I had an umbrella holder especially when the temps are in the 90s, my next cart is going to have one of those. Make sure your cart fits in your car! I ride on the big courses though, since I am bad at tracking the ball. So I can speed around in the cart trying to find where my slice took me next.

I walk if it's only a 9 hole round unless it's mid summer and it's hot. 18 and I go with a cart. I like getting the exercise and saving some cash

Don’t by a two wheel cart whatever you do. I have had a Clic gear 3 wheel cart for 13 years now. No issues. Walking is faster than riding unless the course is wide open. Any amount of busyness and the waking will be just as fast or faster. You miss out on a lot of wildlife if you ride. Also handicap should go down because you wi learn fast not to play army golf. Left right left right

I'm 64 and play 2-3 times per week so you are not too old to walk. I carry my clubs until the temp gets over 90F. Then I use a push cart with an umbrella so I have "portable shade". Other than the obvious health benefits and taking the time to enjoy your surroundings, walking gives me the time to settle down and regroup after a lousy shot before I reach my ball. That improves my game. I would love it if powered carts were only allowed for the elderly or handicapped so they can continue to play golf. I see so many fat people and even teenagers racing around sliding their motorized carts damaging both the course and their own health. Of course, too many of them seem to be there mostly to drink beer with their buddies so they need the cart to carry all the cans.

Wow. Carrying your bag at 64 is pretty impressive . I respect that man. lol And that makes sense and I agree with you. Riders should be only for the handicap people or people that struggle with walking. They say the game is meant to be played without golf carts right? Makes a lot of sense

@@quaypottsA good quality push cart is worth spending a little cash on imo. I'm using a Caddytek tour and would recommend it, but there's a lot of good quality carts available. The thing that sold me on Caddytek is that it's designed to work with a stand bag, and I like stand bags, so that's what I went with.

@@quaypotts you also don’t need a push cart. Get a walking bag, don’t put so much stuff in it and also be thoughtful of the clubs in your bag. Most times when I play I carry about 11-12 clubs. It’s part of my strategy vs the courses I normally play. I could talk on this subject for days!!!! I love walking vs riding.

I don’t think I’d want to carry. I tried it once and it wasn’t bad.. was noticeable gassed after the round tho and only got about 12 or 13 holes in. I guess I would just have to get use to it

@@quaypotts do you have a carry bag or cart bag? Carry bags nowadays make carrying super easy but that can be just as expensive as a cart. I have both a cart bag and a carry bag. I keep my push cart in my truck so when my clubs are in my cart bag I use my push cart. But the straps on my Jones rover carry bag feel amazing and my 40 yr old fat ass can manage 18 holes of walking in the hot Miami FL sun.
