Wendigoon is ridiculously good at explaining the bible and making it sound as cool as it is. There are so many people who take the epic stories and knowledge within the Bible and somehow make it boring

These people fascinate me. How, with the mind God created, with all the breadth and depth of meaning of these vast ranks of words, can you take something as apocalyptically moving and fascinating as the story of WAR FOR ETERNITY, featuring kings, paupers, pauper Kings, devils, the Angel of the Lord, prophecies both pending and fulfilled, blood, love, epic conquest, rape, murder, the fall of the mighty, despair and eternal shining hope for all generations... and turn it into dusty marshmallows? Soft. Sugary. Dry. ... HOW?!?!

@nathanaelellender6495 To be fair, the Bible does a pretty good job of being boring on its own. Epic story ideas, sure, and deeply philosophical and in-tune with the Human condition, absolutely. But it still manages to bog all of that down with the "begats" (we literally don't need a rundown of someone's lineage), and weird parts where something insane will happen and then never be addressed again (Elisha gets his feelings hurt, so summons LITERAL BEARS TO ANNIHILATE A BUNCH OF KIDS and then he just strolls on to where he was going like nothing happened). I'm sure a lot of it has to do with how many times it's been revised and rewritten by a multitude of powers over the centuries, but as pretty much all of the versions stand today, it's a boring read. (I know... I've read it twice.)

I regularly read the Bible, and I read and listen to a variety of preachers, scholars, and even occasional skeptics (hard to avoid them entirely). Most importantly I believe Jesus is the Christ, and that He died for our sins so that we could live with Him for eternity.

@@Popeyedfreeze ‭I Corinthians‬ ‭1:18‭-‬25‬ ‭NKJV‬ [18] For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. [19] For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” [20] Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? [21] For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. [22] For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; [23] but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, [24] but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. [25] Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. You might want to look into it... Bible is funny in a way that someone with IQ 92 can absolutely demolish a IQ 140 in Biblical knowledge and understanding since both start from Zero ( unbelief ) and level 1 is when you believe... then you gain more understanding and knowledge through Holy spirit. ‭Philippians‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭KJV‬ [9] And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

@piterpraker3399
@piterpraker3399 4 ай бұрын
@@A_Jet_Mech The Bible is a collection of books which - alongside every single historical work - have needed to be transcribed. This is the age before the printer and animal skins (called vellum), papyrus, and later actual paper were used. This has led to the collection of biblical manuscripts spanning multiple centuries and languages across the ancient world...and we've also found that they've been miraculously consistent. The multiple copies make for easy (though tedious) cross-referencing too, as opposed to going through secondary or tertiary sources - which helps establish which editions are "variants" to sequester them aside. This has also made forgeries impossible, since there has never been one single document that could be vulnerable to editing. In order to successfully sneak in an edit, you'd have to have access to archeological findings across the ancient world, and work with the materials from that time period...in not just the same language, but the same slang and dialect (as the languages themselves also changed over time), and in some cases with access to similarly preserved remains of scraps of the very same animal's hide - as vellum manuscripts are also organized by the dna of the source animal! As for your New and Old Testament gripe...again, it's true that you're not a biblical scholar. I'd go a step further and say you don't even have a basic understanding of the Bible. The allusions are astounding in the Old Testament to the conditions of the New, and the New faithfully build with the Old. They aren't just nice stories that someone thought would look cute sharing the same binding.

As a Christian who's been studying theology for many years now, this is overall a pretty good breakdown of this stuff, really didnt expect this going into it. Quick correction though, while the idea that Christmas, Easter, etc. traditions are originally pagan is pretty popular, especially around those holidays, it has no real basis in reality. There is no evidence that December 25th, Christmas trees, the Easter bunny, etc. come from paganism, in fact its quite the opposite. Almost all of those ideas came around long after Christianity was widespread and many of them were started by Christians in the first place.
@captainoofmerica2478
@captainoofmerica2478 6 ай бұрын
I think people get the ideas of pagan influences and something straight up being pagan confused. For example the Christmas tree is similar to pagan traditions that use evergreen trees as decoration around that time of year, and it’s probable that the same kind of mindset which was inherited from old pagan traditions influenced the origins of Christmas trees. But that doesn’t change the fact that Christmas trees are a post Christianization tradition that was started by Christians for Christians purposes. I think that’s where people get confused.

If I were there, I would have maybe mentioned the fact that Angel isn't a specific thing. Angel means messenger, and the context tells us about that being whether they are supernatural or human. This also opens the conversation about Theophanies. Jesus participating with humanity prior to the incarnation. To answer the question about Lucifer, actually that's not a name, nor is satan. This is a huge misunderstanding of language, roles, description, and translation. The opposer of the faith wasn't given a name, he's just an opposer so he's described instead of introduced with a name. Fun chat guys, loved it. -Pastor A.

We all need more of this kind of talk! I've also heard "hasatan" in Hebrew for the satan which I've heard described as an old testament view being "the accuser". Think of the old testament version being like a prosecuting attorney at the time. A figure basically asking to go out and temp so that way he could lead prosecution. I don't remember exactly but something along those lines.
@alextheim3920
@alextheim3920 6 ай бұрын
Even in Christianity Satan is known as the accuser of the brethren. You can read in the book of Job how he even has an audience with God even now. You have Jesus petitioning for your salvation on one side of God, Satan on the other hand is always accusing because he wants to have you sent to hell.

@@alextheim3920 that's a better break down. I'm just more recently going back and truly reading the scriptures and I'm only in Joshua at this point but at 36 I feel as if I'm finally taking it all in.

And - if my memory serves me - that is actually part of why not every reference in scripture to "the satan" isn't necessarily a demonic or luciferian figure. Context is very important around each reference, as "the accuser" is a legitimate role in the courts of heaven that is not outside of God's will or love. I'm no expert, but there is so much fascinating learning to be had about the nature and structure of heaven.

@@alextheim3920 Dr. Michael Heisner does such an incredible breakdown of this and other topics in his book "The Unseen Realm". It might take a few listen/reads through for everything to make sense (it did for me, because he gets into some deep/heady stuff), but there's so much containted in scripture that we so often gloss over.

@@vipe650r The more I listen to people the more I want to know about all the meaning behind the words we read. I'm a big "WHY" guy and hearing people dive into the cultural norms of the time is so fascinating and brings such a better understanding. Such as "love" to us is an emotion while then it was an act of choosing.

Love this so much, “Lucifer” is a name transcribed by St Jerome during the renaissance period. It was a was take an an older idea being used to describe King Nebuchadnezzar of a small god (or king) trying to depose or take the place a bigger god ( Adonai or God) it took some time but we now interpret it to be the fall of the Satan from heaven.Books like Paradise Lost definitely drive it home for us
