A good example of Henghwa speaking Hokchia person is Indonesia Mayapada Group Chairman Mr.Tahir or Ang Tjoen Ming.His family is from the border town of Xincuo 新厝鎮. The whole town speak Henghwa despite politically under Hokchia county administration. 東張, 一都, 鏡洋鎮 all have large communities of Henghwa descendants. Are there Hokchia speaking towns in Putian county?

@jsry9583
@jsry9583 2 жыл бұрын

We should add that the most famous Henghwa was Ong Boon Hua, aka Chin Peng, the freedom fighter against Japanese and British imperialism and leader of the Malayan Communist Party. His father owned a spare parts shop in Setiawan, Perak. He and his forces offered the only resistance against the Japanese after the surrender of the British forces. He was a hero among the Malayan nationalists. Sadly he died in exile in Thailand in 2017. Thankfully, his ashes were interred back in Setiawan alongside his parents' grave. Another famous Henghwa who should also be mentioned is the Christian evangelist John Sung宋尚节 (1901-1944) who was instrumental in establishing many Henghwa churches in SE Asia. He was one of the first Chinese to gain a PhD in the west.

I am from Putian and now working in U.S. The middle school and high school I attended back in Putian/Xianyou were built and continuously supported by oversea Chinese, particularly Chinese Indonesian. I really appreciate the great support from Henghwa people around the world so I was able to get my degree in U.S. I believe they went through difficult times and understand the importance of education. Currently, there are several scholarships funded by oversea Henghwa people from around the world.

@teddybear 1968 Thank you for your interest in your Henghwa heritage and culture. You were born and bred in the trobled years of Suharto's anti Chinese culture years. If you know Chinese you will understand more of your ethnicity. Putian (Henghwa)Daerah has a very long border with Hokchia Daerah. On the extreme south of the border is Xincuo新厝鎮 town (totally speaks Henghwa). As you go north, the towns of Yuxi 漁溪, 東張(about half speaks Henghwa) Yidu 一都 which have borders with Putian's Hangjiang urban district have large numbers of villages that speak Henghwa. The inner towns of ShangJing,上迳,鏡洋 also have villages that speak Henghwa. Many people in Hokchia Daerah have the identity of Hokchia but ethnically they are Henghwa.Maybe the government shifted these Henghwa villages into the territory of Hokchia like what happened to Xincuo in 1956.😌 Please note that residents of border villages speak a Dialect of mix Henghwa and Hokchia.l-like a Spanish Creole in Central and South America.

I am a Hing Hwa lang. I am also an old Taoist/Buddhist. My grandfather home town is in Putian. There is a road named after my grandfather in Putian. I am very PROUD of BEING a HING HWA person. Yes, we were the "bicycle people" & then to "radio & electrical" people. But now. we do not speak Hing Hwa dialect since the passing of my "ah Ma" (grandmother) in the 80' Hing Hwa greeting: Ho boh ? sei mar? thanks for the video.

I'm Henghua nang, and both my parents were also pure Henghua Nang (兴化人) from China Poh Lian (莆田) Or Le O (下西坡). My siblings and I speak pure Hing Hua (兴化) dialect as my parents were very strict with us in learning it. However, I often hear other Hing Hua folks speak the same dialect with a different pronunciation that sounds a bit off, not exactly like the pure Hing Hua dialect that I know and speak. This is because they speak the dialect mixed with Hock Jiew (福州) and Xiang Yu (仙游) accents.

Wow it surprises me to know the bicycle / parts comes from Kobe japan as i know all along it's china the Bycicle / part came from. Even more it's well-known that the best Bycicle is China's one that they ( my people) say : buy the RRT one. Rrt is short for republic rakyat tiongkok ( people's Republic of China in indonesian)
@FearlessPassport
@FearlessPassport 2 жыл бұрын
Nowadays most parts could be from China due to the competitive prices. In our grandfather days, most parts are still imported from Japan, including cars.. RRC was still struggling at that era.

During the postwar years of the 1950s, most of the bicycles imported into Malaya actually came from Britain because the British imposed tariffs on othe countries' bicycles. So the main brands were British, like Rayleigh, Hercules, BSA, Humber, etc. In North Malaysia, they were imported, especially into Penang which was then a free port, mainly their main agent which was a Henghwa company and distributed to other Henghwa outfits. As most were connected by the dialect and often family ties, they would take the goods on extended credit terms.

I can't tell the difference btw the Hockchia, Hockchew, Foochow n Henghua dialects but after listening to the Henghua speakers I'm sure the Hokkiens, Teochews n Hainanese will be able to understand at least 70-80% what they r talking abt.
@laurencechan470
@laurencechan470 2 жыл бұрын
@Huitribe Wong Are u sure. 70-80%? Henghwa dialect is an independent dialect and has very little similarly with the Dialects you mentioned. They are mutually unintelligible without previous exposure.
@Zerpentsa6598
@Zerpentsa6598 2 жыл бұрын
@@laurencechan470 I suspect a lot also depends on how well you can speak and understand your own dialect because if you are not fluent in you own, you would not understand words from another dialect even if they were similar to yours since even those words in your own dialect might be incomprehensible to you.
