In this video I will show you how to do a complete refresh of your power cables in your Jeep Cherokee. This process is very similar to other Cherokees but today I will show you how to do it on a 97-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ. This process may be similar on other Jeep models such as the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and Comanche. I will show you how to do the whole job from start to finish. If you have any other questions that the video doesn't cover make sure to comment below and I would be happy to answer.

I like the fact that you point out very small specific things like using dielectric grease , and also the size of the socket or wrench that you’re using. That is really helpful.... excellent job 🤙🏼

I was given an xj by my best friend because my car had broken and I needed a way to travel to paramedic school. Everything was going great with the car until it wasn’t. My heat went out, in January, in Chicago so I turned to your videos to learn how to replace the water pump and it was extremely helpful, then my washer pump went out enter OutJeeping again, now I’m looking to change my radio and speakers along with my headliner soon and I’ve already watched your tutorials and am stoked that I’ll have them as a guide when I do make these repairs. Cables or no cables thank you for taking the time to put up these videos, saves me a ton of headaches and mistakes

Your channel has helped me in 3 ways: 1) entertainment. Watching the offroad videos is fun. 2) you show me new mods that I didnt even know I wanted or needed. An example is the fan override switch. And 3) Just like in this video, you show me what to expect and provide an easy to follow how to. I really appreciate channels like this. As far as the cables go, they are already on my list. I could definitely use them on my 99 that has frayed cables.

Hey Austin Your videos have help me with a lot of different task I have done to my 01 XJ. Task such as my speaker problem being the most recent. My driver side speaker would cut out with the door shut. I found broken wires in the door jam after watching your speaker upgrade video. Other videos like headliner replacement, trans flush, key fob trick and brake caliper rebuild. Your videos are very informative, clear, great quality and easy to follow along with. Also you show you don't need a lot of fancy tools to get what your trying to do done on your XJ. The 2 gauge upgrade will be great for my XJ. After fixing my speaker wire problem I plan to upgrade the the whole audio system and put some sounds in it. Also my 01 is a on going project, right now it has a about a four inch left bastard pack junkyard lift for now because im on a budget. Front bumper is off and looking for a winch and winch bumper. I have some LED pod lights waiting to go on, h4 headlight conversion installed. I think the wire upgrade will give me more light out of them. Slowly but surely my XJ is coming along. So this upgrade would be a great step in the build. Thanks for taking the time to make great tutorial videos. Joe

I had to pull start it to get it home and came to KZfaq to look four tips on upgrades knowing the battery cables look pretty shotty. this would be a great upgrade for mine as I have not done that yet or diagnose the non starting problem yet. Hey Austin, i haven't really commented a lot on your vids but i have been here since 500 subs. And the best thing about that is i have seen your progression in video making. You have made many videos that have helped me out but its not the subject of the video its your camera work. You unlike a lot of car youtubers, the angles that you show when fixing something or installing something are what really helps. Now a little info on my jeep. I bought it of this guy who clearly didn't do things by the book. there were random bolts in places and dont even get me started on the wiring, when i went to go look at the jeep i popped the hood and my immediate reaction was, "SHIT" The wire loom was all but gone and there were so many random wires that he put in that dont need to be there at all. NOW the most messed up thing was the battery terminals, The ground terminal is broken if i tighten it anymore the terminal will brake and i will have to by this kit anyways. Now for the positive i do have alot of accessories like you ( i appreciate that you point that out ) and my positive terminal cant fit anymore accessories. With this cable upgrade i would be able to fix all of the issues the previous owner messed up on and i would also have the peace of mind that my battery terminals wont fall off while on the trail. Anyway , just want to say thanks for all the vids and i appreciate you making them. ,Harrison

Great video, FYI though dielectric grease is very non conductive, it is the very last thing you should be putting inside of your terminals, its purpose is to prevent shorts. It might very well be useful inbetween the starter positive/negative leads which do like to short if something gets in there, but it shouldn't be put on your ring terminals before they're tightened down.

And any place to live because I want to make sure that this thing was right. Before we went up in to Colorado, we're gonna be doing some high altitude 4 by and gonna go around mountaintero and I just want to make sure that everything was in good shape. So we didn't get hurt. @trakkerp4202
@trakkerp4202 Жыл бұрын
@@ianbestor1528 Ground wires should be easy, one goes from the engine (usually a valve cover stud) to the firewall and the other goes from the battery to the fender. The fender ground is usually located by the fuse box near the battery (at least on mine) while the engine ground is located on a stud on the passenger side. The power and ground for the battery system is no different between the 4.0 and 4.7

This is an awesome video on how to do the big 7 upgrade. If anyone is going to be doing this to their Jeep but will be running a wench and whatever else you want to run and if you are on a budget then all of the stuff to make this kit yourself is cheaper to buy everything individually. There then would also be enough material to make your own wiring kit for a dual battery setup if that’s what you want to run. I was able to piece everything together including the crimping tool, 2GA red and black cable (5ft each), lugs, terminal connectors, heat shrink, and fuse/holder for around $130. The 4GA kit is around $100 from what I had seen and you may need to modify it anyways.

Is there a reason why the wire to the starter doesn’t get connected to the fuse that’s connected to the pdc if it’s connected to the positive terminal of the battery anyways? Does it need to be directly connected from battery to starter without a fuse?

The terminals are trash dude the wires themselves are ok but the insulation and shrink wrap are just cheap. I bought these wires and I’m gon say it’s a 5 out of 10. Just make your own for less I paid 120$+ not sure but yea.
