The largest aquarium in the Green Aqua Gallery is ready for a rebuild. Well, maybe it was not ready, but Viktor and Tommy did it anyway. LOL! A joint effort to create a fresh nice-looking Nature Aquarium in our 650 Liter or 172 Gallon display. This episode is about hardscape selection and layout design. Stay tuned for lots of info and some inspiration before the IAPLC 2021 deadline!
What plants and fish would you choose for the final build? Let us know in the comment below!

Hi there Tommy and good to see Viktor too . What a shame, I was really looking forward to sitting in front of the Angelfish tank , but with covid , the whole gallery will have probably changed ,by the time I get to visit, but understandable, you have to move forward. Very interesting with the iron wood and lava rock. Looking good though. A strong hardscape , I love it.The planting is going to be very interesting. As always thank you both

Was great to see you on the screen again Viktor! Nice scape with a strong impact. For me, this scape represents the classics. I would definitely use some (a lot) Trident as its flow and leaf shapes would emphasize the flow of the hardscape. I'd add some Montecarlo towards the front and switch it to HC in the back. with that increasing the sense of depth. Adding these carpeting plants on the wood could visually highlight some "lines" in the scape that define it, with that increasing the sense of flow. Also, I'd trim them so they grow down in a few places (like "indák" 😅), breaking the sideways flow a bit with some vertical details. Maybe a bit of Riccardi moss in some patches here and there and I'd boost the bottom of the hardscape with some Anubias variations. Again, bigger leaf ones in the front and smaller ones towards the back. I would definitely not use any harsh reads in this scape, one thing I would maybe consider is some bucephalandra with a brownish tint as that would fit the wood well. Overall I think it I such a strong hardscape, that I would absolutely keep plant use to the minimum. I think simplicity on plants would be the strength of this scape. Good work Viktor and Tomi 💪

Actually Tommy is thinking about it. Both the little soil addition and the lotus plant 👍 Thanks for the suggestion

Loved the cinematic, was very nice to see this from 0 to 100! - You mention the iron wood can heavily discolor the water and that you use purigen for this. I'm setting up 90p with a significant amount of red moor wood which I understand can do the same (but maybe not as much) At green aqua, do you guys pre-soak this wood in order to leech out the tannins, or do you just use purigen to power through?

Would love to see what you would build into it. A great size, but only if you do with this 60cm depth. 👍

Wow I hope I could get to this level one day...just started in the hobby and I'm really loving it! Do you guys ever work with thicker woods like mopani? For those of us who lack creativity and just buys large chunks of wood haha
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 3 жыл бұрын
Exciting times, hope you find a lot of info to get start with your project. We've used mopani as well. Looks great, but that is a softer wood and like you said need a certain size to fit there.

Wow, looks stunning from the view on the whole gallery. Great to see Victor back ! Question - if you would do water change after the light comes off, would you fertilise it again ?

Thanks for the support Marcin 💚 You do not need to worry about fertilizers then. Only if you do this every day :

Hi guys. Yeah! I'm planning to do something like that, a tank with only epiphyte plants. To me, it's been more difficult to work with active soil, so that's why this time I won't use it. Well, you could use many types of Bucephalandras and Anubias as possibe, some ferns maybe, higrophyla pinnatifida. Cheers guys and good luck with the layaout.

Hey 👋 i have questions.Are there any advantages of providing aeration to a planted when the plants do not photosynthesizing.( when the lights are off).

Not so easy to set up a good demonstration environment, but this is on our list. Since the lights developed a lot since that vid. 👍

there is the reason put the wood first and the stone later? I think it would be convenient to put the stone first. i recommend Polygonum sp from sao paulo + good luck IAPLC :)
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 3 жыл бұрын
We only used the stone here to elevate and fix the wood in position. Sometimes easier to start with the stones like you said. Here it worked better in a reverse order. Thanks for the plant suggestion 👍
