Physical media has plenty of advantages over digital media. Streaming services can take down certain movies whenever they want. This is similar to how your favorite shows will leave your local station after their run on syndication ends, So unless you have cable, you're left with finding home video releases of those shows, and movies out in the wild. Also, A movie you've watched on HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, or The Movie Channel will only run for A month. Then it's removed from the schedule until who knows when. Something else that physical media offers that big companies that own animation studios don't realize is that aspiring artists learn how to draw from physical media. Particularly on DVDs, and Blu Rays. Sure, some have used VHS, but the image quality doesn't look very good when you pause the tape, or run it in slow motion. (And VCRs don't keep the tape paused for very long.) Now I do admit to owning some digital media, but from iTunes because those files can be opened in Quicktime from the iTunes media folder. So at least it's not like VUDU, which is pretty much A streaming platform from what I've gathered.

If physical media ever goes extinct, hopefully there still won’t be people without strong enough Internet for streaming, especially if TV networks stop airing family movies at prime time on Friday or Saturday nights on a regular basis and non-streaming kids would be stuck with the same small selection of DVDs over and over. With an all digital future, all it takes is a simple tax write off or removal from digital downloads to lock future generations out of content without a physical media release.
