One of the show's most touching episodes. I love the solution of everyone telling Howard a possible version of what his father's letter said. It was very emotional and it cleverly gave all the members of the friend group a part to play.

I love the fan theory that every one of the offers that they told Howard was one whole letter and they split it up.

They should have a 2 or 3 episode each called ‘Young Howard’, ‘Young Leanard’, etc. I would love to see their early childhoods to give them more depth. Just a thought.

As someone whose father left, and has ignored his attempts to contact me as an adult, it is a confusing feeling you can’t really explain to others. Rejection is always a terrible feeling, but when it’s your parent that does it… it stays with you. It hurts to know your own parent didn’t want you. And once that happens, giving them the opportunity to have any contact with you is… I just don’t want it. I can’t explain why. I just don’t. So I get it.

7:26 This is one of my favorite lines in the whole series. People should say that to Sheldon more often, preferably when there's no one around for him to use as a human shield.

This is my favorite episode of the series right here. Just because the solution is so unique to this series, and could really only be formulated by these characters, and then comes across in such a touching way. I'm not in love with the lead-up, but sitcom characters do tend to be in each others' business more than is healthy, that's just part of the genre.

Amy is probably the best character, and person. Scary thing to me is that I honestly think Howard might be the best human in the show, excluding early seasons lol. Sheldon is oblivious, Raj is pathetic, Leonard is an insecure asshat, Penny is a narcissist, and Bernadette is entitled and arrogant. Howard starts out like a horny teen, which makes sense because he hadn't had a girl since puberty lol, but he actually grows as a person as the show goes on. Sure, Penny changes her career and whatever, but she's still Penny.

I guess, since we don't know which version of the letter is true...we're all in a state of epistemic ambivalence?
@KaiLucasZachary
@KaiLucasZachary Жыл бұрын
I personally like to believe that all of them are true (with the exclusion of Sheldon, of course). One letter on an 18th birthday could definitely include all of them. There's no real reason to believe that's what they chose to do, but it's a headcanon that makes me happy.

4:29 Honestly, Howard saying that makes me think of Egon in _Ghostbusters: Afterlife._ Maybe Howard's dad had a reason for leaving. It doesn't mean that he didn't love him. But, whatever his reasons were, I think we can all agree that he's still a better parent than Leonard's mom. 😅

@@ZukoHalliwell Also, Big Bang Theory is very predictably written in terms of its characters. lol Nobody is going to call it the most masterful screen-writing of the century. I'm just enhancing your point, that you learn to know what each character will obviously say in a given situation. So long as you can still laugh at it with the way the actor delivers it, then there's nothing technically wrong with an obvious comedy. It's **supposed** to be a comedy, no matter how predictable.

That dinner mix up was FULLY Bernadette's fault, She should have told Sheldon in advance that she was going to make him the food. Instead Sheldon went in blind and just looked out for himself.

Sheldon wasn't in the right though for saying "Well, now don't you feel silly?" Yeah, communication would have been good from the outset, but he doesn't have to be a jerk about someone attempting to do something nice specifically for him.

@@ItApproaches I agree in the sense that Bernadette should have told him in advance. What I'm disagreeing with is the way Sheldon responded to it. Sure, it was Bernadette's "fault"... but even if someone is at fault, there's a way to say, "I really appreciate the effort, but I brought my own food, so maybe we could share my food and also try some of yours." Yeah, she should have told him that she intended to cook specially for him, but he didn't need to be a jackass about it with the condescending comment he made.

@@KaiLucasZachary Why does he need to say ""I really appreciate the effort, but I brought my own food, so maybe we could share my food and also try some of yours" tat's pandering to a persons feelings. Saying specific words doesn't change or effect the situation in anyway. A persons emotions and feelings are 100% their own damn business, nobody else's.
@KaiLucasZachary
@KaiLucasZachary Жыл бұрын
@@ItApproaches It wasn’t the specific wording. He could have just said, “Thanks, but I brought my own.” It’s the acknowledgment that’s missing. There was absolutely no need for the condescending tone of voice, regardless of emotions. Even an autistic person knows they should say “thank you” when someone does something for them.

I agree, I didn't really have a favorite character either, but I noticed 2 things: 1. Penny was the ROCK 🪨 of the group 2. I didn't expect the show to have a successful spinoff, but Young Sheldon made the most sense when you look at his story arch throughout The Big Bang Theory!

I'm still afraid to watch Young Sheldon. I feel like it's going to destroy a character that I love the way that so many "prequels" do. I've heard reviews saying that the kid actor is fantastic but that it's pretty much a completely different character than the "Sheldon" in this original series.

Out of all the statements about the letter, Bernadette's statement has to be the right one, right? She is the wife
@daniellanctot6548
@daniellanctot6548 Жыл бұрын
Actually, I read somewhere a good explanation that clues were put in that Amy's story was the correct one, but I can't recall why or where I read it, so I might be wrong there. But Bernadette's story seems more to me like her saying what she thinks her husband would most have wanted to hear, therefore I tend to disregard her story as well as Raj's, which is too simple, and Sheldon's or Penny's, which are both too obviously fictional (So to me it's between Amy and Leonard, but Amy seems to be the one most uncomfortable retelling the story, so I would lean more towards her than Leonard)

The episode was a big character statement about Bernadette. She's not a very good person. Goes behind his back to find out the contents of such a personal letter, and then to drop that fact on him right before walking into a party. Just poor form.

I'll give her slight credit in that maybe she assumed he was going to find out at the party since everyone already knew, so she wanted to somewhat prepare him. But, yeah, she shouldn't have done it in the first place.
