Wow, thank you very much for the breakdown! I love the changes! Especially with the Haunts, very fresh! My channel's narrated a lot of the Haunts for people's ease, I hope they've not changed that much! I wonder if they'll do a further update on Widow's Walk too?

In my first ever play of Betrayal I got to trigger the haunt in the very first room reveal of the session. 100% going with 3e haunt roll next time!

Did they update/clarify some haunts? Whenever I play there is a chance that the rules are ambiguous or haunts make no sense. Which results in a lot of home-brewed rules. I found it a lot harder to navigate without a third-party judge.

I love this game and got a copy of the 3rd edition. During Thanksgiving, my wife, dad, sister, father in law, mother in law and I all sat down to play the game the first time. I watch lots of videos on Betrayal, so while technically it was my first playthrough, I was familiar with the game. The first playthrough was pretty messy, but a good learning experience. We chose the paranormal investigator scenario and my wife was revealed to be the traitor. She never played a game like this, where players can be given a separate set of rules. So after setup, she read through her objectives and became very frustrated and confused. What we ended up doing was making it the traitor/survival objectives completely transparent. We knew what the abilities of the traitor were and knew what the survivors were planning on doing. Once we did that, everything started moving smoothly. We decided to play another game after our first and that went much more smoothly and we had a lot of fun with the second one. So I think to people who are thinking about playing this game with newbies. Use our house rule with being transparent. It really doesnt take away from the gameplay experience and it makes the whole process of switching to the 2nd part of the game so much smoother and enjoyable for everyone. Once everyone is more familiar, you can go back to the normal, 'traitor doesnt reveal their tactics' method.

Thanks for the breakdown. I just actually got the 3rd edition. And was watching reviews of old versions and i think i got that mixed up. Our 1st play was a bit messy but still fun. Hopefully, next time it will be a bit better thanks to this video :)

It looks like they took some of the changes from the Scooby Do version and incorporated them into this version. No Haunt matrix, Haunt roll and no more separating the betrayer from the group.

can you back the new haunt roll rules to older editions?... to remove the haunt can happen on the first roll part from before legacy betrayal

Interesting. I really love this game and have played the 2nd ed for years, but have yet to experience all of the haunts - including those of the Widow’s Walk expansion. Is it possible to use the Widow’s Walk expansion together with the new edition? (I’m guessing the answer is no unless they kept Omen cards are the same across editions, as otherwise the Widow’s Walk haunt matrix probably wouldn’t work anymore).
