Delhi is once again grappling crisis of air pollution… The spike in the pollution has once again dipped capital's air quality. Though it showed marginal improvement on 26 December morning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) measuring 383, the problem doesn’t quite seem to get resolved with no long term solution in sight… And it’s not just Delhi, other major cities too are facing similar issues… Mumbai’s AQI measured ‘very poor’ near 400, Kolkata reels at severe and Lucknow too recorded the levels at ‘very poor’…
Early this week, following reports of the pollution levels, the Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) had issued a three-day ban on industries and construction work in Delhi and NCR till December 26… Delhi government too is contemplating to bring in back the car rationing ‘Odd n Even’ rule if the need arises.

My Summary of video :- 1. Stubble burning not only contributor to pollution, there are many others 2. Lots of hue and cry about pollution on paper only not much in reality, like talking about e-vehicles but no work on infrastructure facility 3. Traffic jam 🚥 occurs due to roads whick are not properly planned according to world class level also due to pedestrians who are compelled to walk on roads as roads were widened to make space for vehicles to move 🚗 all at the cost of greenery 3. Parallel busses for same routes adds to the pollution.. 4. No last mile connectivity in public transport system, this is major reason why uber / ola 🚖 is making profits ( i don't have any grudge for it ) 5. In China there is huge towers (air-purifiers) which can clear much pollutants of PM 10, 2.5 etc... My question is why can't we apply in Delhi and other polluted cities 6. Though BS-IV to BS-VI shift is commendable but we should not be complacent about it as more needs to be done 7. National action plan ( NAP) for pollution should be implemented by cooperation from various stakeholders ( municipality, government, private) 8. No precise data about pollution among all people, like here panelist were having converging views on data😁🤔🔥 9. Roadside unauthorized hawkers and tapris should be removed as they are big reason for jams and place them in some designated area having big ground/space where they can sell but with paying taxes otherwise there will spree of unauthorized shops which is now a big problem 10. People needs to be awaken and become cooperative to government efforts

Issues: 1. Bad AQ all year round and seasonal spikes 2. Denial of problem 3. Synergistic effect in winter (biomass burning+ Diwali+ {temp inversion +poor dispersal} meteorology) 4. Weak patrolling system (discreet pollution) 5. Dust (dry loo+ dust from desert+ transportation dust) = 33% contribution 6. Stubble burning = 10% contribution 7. Multiplicity of agencies, lack of coordination, lack of enforcement (CPCB/SC are directing agencies) 8. Reducing number of buses/lakh population (Delhi) 9. Urban planning/financial/technical policy directed towards favouring automobiles ( e.g. green belts beside roads narrowed for widening roads) 10. Transportation sector contribution 25% to 35% 11. DALY reduced by 5-10 yrs due to pollution (affects children, PWLM, elderly) Solution: 1. Package solution for all sector (no traffic jam/elimination of potholes/modernisation of brick kilns/widening green belt) 2. Emphasis on non motorised traffic (cycle) 3. Phase 2 of FAME scheme (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid Electric Vehicles 2015), support with charging infra 4. Last mile connectivity by e-ricks/cycle to metro stations 5. Modernisation/better route planning of public transit (reduce duplicity, integration of networks). 6. Dis-incentivise car owners (high parking charges), car registration limit per households 7. Contribution from every sector (transport, construction, social mobility, solid waste management) 8. National implementation agency to ensure round the year action.

suggestions: 1. extend e vehicle approach to public transport like rickshaws and buses 2. adjust school timings and work timings depending upon the severity of the air pollution-eg: early morning timings shifted to late morning timings 3. incentivise various sectors to develop green methods-transport, research, energy sector sector etc 4. better coordination between multiple authorities 5. develop spaces meant only for afforestation 6. incentivise people towards public transport like raising parking fees

steps taken: 1. eastern peripheral corridor to reduce congestion 2. sc ruling on ban on sale of firework 3. odd even rule 4. sc ruling on banning construction activity 5. metro challenges towards addressing the problem: 1. lack of converging political will - delhi includes ncr regions under other state governments. hence lack of collective approach. 2. increasing construction activity especially in noida ncr region due to increasing demand and conducive environment 3. farmers distress- continued stubble burning despite penalties 4.weather- winds from Central Asia and use of bonfire during winter by rural and slum dwellers 5. low bus to people ratio- makes people to move to personal vehicles 6. non feasibility to adopt e vehicles

The steps which need to be taken can be harsh(may appear) or somewhat difficult but we need serious steps which have immediate impact. 1. Decongest city.. As said by speaker. 2. To discourage private vehicles or ban and promoting use of public transport. 3. GOVERNMENT employees and private sector employees too contribute to major chunk of traffic,, need is to discourage them in using personal vehicles. 4 College going students should also be focused. I know all my suggestions are related to transport system as I think it's most important to look upon.

A general suggestion- to anchors and participants both- you are supposed to engage in a conversation by LOOKING AT EACH OTHER & Not at the camera. Looking at the camera when someone is responding to your question/ while answering someone, looks very “robotic”😄! Rajat Kain is very patient I must say!

Everything boils down to poor implementation of policies and unaccountable bureaucracy. No matter how many policies we come up with to tackle such issues, nothing's gonna change. Public associations consisting of students, intellectuals, media personnel, professors, scientists, businessmen, daily wage workers etc should put up their suggestions directly in front of the govt and take the responsibility of monitoring the progress being made in implementation of policies. Social Audit and Performance ratings to bureaucrats and officials given by such public associations would impose accountability over the executive machinery which will make the situation better off.

Air pollution and any social problems are totally depend upon the behaviour of citizens.our fundamental duty to protect environment.when we talk about the effect of air pollution is directly on health of citizens. If health is not good then it directly affect the economy of the country because "HUM FIT TO INDIA FIT".Solutions are many but i think if awareness more about prevent pollution then it leads in proper direction.Participation of youth for healthy environment which plays most role for awareness through various campaign.
