bigger teams varied a lot the further back you go. at one point Schalke were the biggest, then HSV, then Cologne, etc. Bayern were the only ones to hold on to it and keep it to this day

@@maybegamer24 Even Bayern had their ups and downs. Bayern was arguably the biggest team in Germany in the mid-70s, the mid-80s, the early 2000s and only really started dominating the Bundesliga in 2013. Bayern just remained consistently good until the point came they started dominating

The 77/78 Bundesliga season had one of the craziest title showdowns in football history. Before the last matchday Köln and Gladbach were level on points, but Köln had a goal difference of +40 while Gladbach only had +30. So the race seemed to be decided before the final matchday. That was until Gladbach pulled off this astonishing 12:0 beating, to blow the race wide open. Now Köln needed to win by at least three goals to still get the title. An hour into the game it was still only 1:0 against St. Pauli. But in the end they managed to score 4 goals within 30 Minutes and win the Bundesliga in spectactular fashion. That's why the biggest win in Bundesliga history felt like a great defeat for Gladbach.

In England the biggest defeat was 12-0. It happened twice. West Bromich Albion beat Darwen 12-0 in 1892, and Nottingham Forest beat Leicester Fosse 12-0 in 1909. Both top tier football. Football history doesn't start in 1992 with a profit driven rebrand

Points were equal between Köln and Gladbach and Köln was 10 goals ahead, Köln won 5-0 against backmarker St. Pauli. So if Köln only won by 1 goal, Gladbach would have won the title.

The Gladbach vs Dortmund was such a scandalous game because Gladbach only won the Bundesliga if they beat Dortmund with an infeasible 10 goals while Koln must not do the same thing by scoring more than 3 goals against St.Pauli. But, Koln won because they won 5-0 against St.Pauli. After the game, Dortmund was even punished with the sacking of the future Greece national football team manager that won the Euro 2004, Otto Rehhagel. Also, I heard that in my country, there was the same story about the defeat. In the league, before the modern Indonesian football was created in 1994 with the introduction of Liga Indonesia, Persebaya Surabaya lost 0-12 to Persipura Jayapura. The game was eventually became the subject of match-fixing that ultimately led to Persebaya's eventual national league title in 1988 because PSIS Semarang were the better side at that time to reach the further rounds. In the national team, Indonesia lost 0-10 to Bahrain back in 2012, which was also the subject of match-fixing because at that time the country was plagued by a massive problems, where the Indonesian football was splitted by two leagues, with the newly created Indonesian Premier League being considered as the official competitions by PSSI. As such, when they played against Bahrain, the national team only fielded all players with low experience of the leagues.

The Dortmund coach was Otto Rehhagel. Who got fired and became a laughing stock after the game. He went on to become the coach with the longest tenure in Bundesliga history, coaching Werder Bremen for 14 years, forming the club into a worthy rival for Bayern and leading them to their only European Cup. Later he let 1. FC Kaiserslautern to promotion and immediately in the first season back in the Bundesliga he won the title with them and lastly in 2004 his victory at the Euros with Greece is arguably the biggest upset in international football history. The story behind Gladbach's 12:0: As the reigning three time in a row champion, they were on the same amount of points as Köln before the last gameday but only had a +30 goal differencial while Köln was on +40. Köln was playing St. Pauli in the last game, who were dead last and already surely relegated, so everyone knew, a simple win over Dortmund was not enough. To halftime, they were leading 6:0 while Köln had only scored one goal, so some people believed in the possibility. But in the second half, Köln scored 4 more goals, winning 5:0 and the coach of Gladbach always screamed things like "only 5 more". But the 12:0 was not enough. Many people say, Dortmund received a lot of money to lose that high but even that was not enough. The next season, Gladbach finished on tenth place. And by the way, Bayern also got destroyed on the same day, the lost 5:0 to Kaiserslautern.

While players like Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Zidane and various others, tooo many to mention, have been more than talented and influential in the world of football, no player has ever been ale to perform so well, so consistently, and for so long as Messi. Sure, Messi may not be the flashiest player, hitting shots like Ronaldo, Suarez or Rooney could. However, his style of play is effective and his ability on the field is more than present and affecting, and this has shown in both Barcelona and PSG. He's not perfect, as no soccer player can be, and he can't carry a team alone, as no soccer player could, but he has come the closest to it compared to all others before him(in regards to the perfect thing, no soccer player will ever be able to carry a team alone, that why soccer is a team sport).
