Who said producers need analog equipment to produce? Analog equipment is primarily used for recording, mixing, and mastering. The main focus for producers should be their skill set. Analog can indeed help improve the sonic feel of a record, but it's not necessary. You're right. Most people listen to music on low-budget systems, and the average music consumer can't hear what an analog chain is doing, but I guarantee they can feel it. Mediocre people aren't willing to go the full distance, let alone an extra mile. A 30% improvement in song quality-do you know how significant that is? It's enough to turn a good record into a great one. To those serious aspiring mixing engineers and producers , even if you can't afford it now, this is definitely a worthy investment. Improve your gear, get your room treated-it will certainly help. Strive for the very best or settle for nothing less. Again not needed but don't completely dissmiss it when it cant be the right thing for you.

I'm definitely far from a pro mixer but when I get it sounding decent in my air pods it usually sounds decent everywhere.

I totally agree about analog synths and such, there isn't a need for them anymore. But there is no plugin or VST to really sounds like a real guitar being played by a guitarist for example. And what about the true staple of Hip hop analog gear, the MPC sampler?

bro you COOKED the whole time. for one, everybody go listen to some japanese jazz and jazz fusion, its some fire. for two, its funny hearing you talk about how much people can hear thru the average earbuds. i recently got whats probably my nicest pair and i can hear so much more depth, i can literally hear sounds that i couldn't hear before, some songs i've heard dozens of times almost sound like remixes or like the version i was hearing on my old earbuds was a demo, something like a reference beat 🤣. wicked dope podcast man, would love more of these.

i am so happy you touched on this because at times i find myself trying to get my songs mastered with certain companies but for what like you said it gets compressed to a low level sound

Eventually the beat do get ran through the consoles and maybe some analog gear during mastering but in reality non of that is needed for music production bit it is always good to have gear it'll get the job done faster and certainly better but definitely not Essential.

i do not agree with your argument that the only way you got to know music was through mtv etc. In the 90s most of the electronic music i was listening to wasnt on the radio, nor on tv, sometimes in magazines. The record store, thats where i got to know a lot of underground music. Also buying dj mixes on cd, through that i got to know another whole range of tracks. Ive always been on the search for music, i dont have spotfiy or anything. In production, im making music on hardware and in an ideal situation i would like to run it through a tape machine, ive got an analog mixer, and driving things with gain turning up, you first get a sort of saturation which then slowly goes into distortion. If a track needs some shiny edge, i take a room reverb on my mixer, turn everything down, and push the fx fader a bit up. It gives a certain shine to the track, so then im using the mixer as an instrument. Im looking for old tascam portastudios which record on cassette to run tracks through. Eventually it needs to enter the digital realm, where i use some effects in ableton. So its a bit hybrid. But i like recording methods from the 50s till the 00s very much. I find it very strange to see pictures of famous artists in a big studio, with a big Neve or SSL series console, and only a laptop. Why dont they run the laptop thru that big ass mixer? That would have been nice. In the 90s i had a few synths and a mixer, and recorded on cassette. I still like that way of making music. Technical developments are not worse nor are they better. Its a very subjective thing. That would like disqualify all the tracks that have been made in the past.

To be fair the cost of a laptop a controller and some headphones then the appropriate daw is a lot for a beginner when an mpc live 2 will give you more for less money if you are writing beats, I’m actually shocked you recommend people using ear buds too they are very damaging and tiring to the ears over long periods when a pair of dt 990 pros are around £100, again the MPC has built in speakers, then there’s the prospect of having to spend a lot of time tweaking windows to be a usable workhorse for production without it self updating throwing the entire system off point regularly which isso annoying. If I were to start from scratch again I would either buy an iPad and headphones or an MPC Live 2, good points good video thanks.

I had to go to another video to check if sound was infact working. Initially I couldn't hear anything. Went back 2nd time and the sound is perfect. It's called troubleshooting. ❤❤❤ By the way excellent video. Awesome information

the reality is that to start off the equipment is a waste of money. anything outside of the computer and daw is accessories. you have to go thru that first stage learning after you learn then you can start upgrading your gear and make the moves of acquiring what you need with the proper understanding but in all honesty you can do everything with fl studio native lug ins you just need the knowledge the problem is the knowledge gaps just make you a consuming machine who will spend $10k before you make $200

What’s the point of picking equipment that costs thousands for perhaps a 2-3% improvement in sound when the only people who *may* notice the difference are world-class engineers, the people who aren’t hearing your music? That said, I hated my acoustic guitar recordings until I put a Neumann TLM-102 in front of a Martin HD-28.

I believe the only external hardware you need is a good mic preamp and maybe a compressor or just an Avalon VT 737 SP

Its the work flow, music studio gear teaches preventative strategy and software fixing strategy. Prevention is better than fixing I guess. So try prevention on the plug-in and that's finna be no different from studio gear🙌

Think what tunes you could have just made on fruity loops or Ableton with this time right now, if you hadn't watched this. 36 minutes, thats so precious for what little is contained in this, too many people are tricking themselves that theyre helping their art by watching this sort of content but they're not, there's just mountains of it some of it is hugely helpful, alot of it is just procrastination.
