In this video we see the biggest load of surplus I have ever been able to show you. We see some new stuff I have never shown you before. I apologize about the length but we had a lot to cover. The wind starts messing with us at the end and I'm sorry, I did my best to get away from it but it was relentless.

I'm an aircraft mechanic in the USAF. FOD is Foreign Object Debris, which could mean screws, hardware, rocks, etc that could damage an aircraft engine or get lodged in a flight control to jam it. Those coveralls had sealing pockets (velcro, zippers, or buttons) to keep hardware from falling out.

Brown gloves are flyers gloves and the white nomex gloves are the inserts for them. The camo pattern on the winter whites is someone took their laundry bag as a stencil and added some slight camo. The white ties on the winter white top is probably a sniper adding attachments for winter ghillie cam. Green mittens were part of the cold weather gloves system along with the shooter mittens , all old 1950’s stock that I got issued in the late 90’s. The black gloves are the pilots cold weather flight gloves.

I remember being told the Mark 3 boots were actually Kodiak Grebs, but they certainly don't match modern Grebs. One of my favourite boots of all time

The kit bag without the tab for the zipper can be easily remedied by putting a thin zap strap through the knob part. Good as new.

FOD is foreign object damage. Its an air force term for something going down the engine or getting dropped etc into an aircraft and causing damage to the aircraft. The overalls don't have buttons that can fall off into an aircraft and all fasteners are probably velcro. When you go into an aircraft hanger you will always be told to "DE-FOD" by taking everything out of your pockets and removing anything that could drop or fall off you and Bury itself in an aircraft

Those black winter rubber covers should work great to waterproof mukluks during wet cold periods. Do they fit over the mukluk shell or as a replacement to the shell?

The steel toed boots seem to have a common failure in the tread coming away from the boot. I picked up a pair of them, and both boots had the tread pull away. Fixed it up nicely with a product off of Amazon called "Shoe Goo" Once applied, my boots were as good as new. Not sure how much the boots 'should' cost new, but I picked them up from a surplus shop for under $70, and the shoe goo was another $15.

The tall black boots with the zipper and leather string in the back are women's dress boots. We ordered them from Logistik with our points. The gloves with black leather palms and brown outer were issued to the air force. Not bad for driving but don't keep your hands warm in northern AB!

does canada have an equivalent to the US m1956 field suspenders?
@OshawaBushcraft
@OshawaBushcraft Жыл бұрын
Hi Roger. Are you referring to suspenders that held the ammunition belt (webbing)? If so there was suspenders on both the 64 and 82 pattern webbing, the 64 would likely be the most similar.

@@OshawaBushcraft thanks and would you know where my best chance of getting a pair in canada would be?
@OshawaBushcraft
@OshawaBushcraft Жыл бұрын
@@rogerclemmons8652 the 64 pattern suspenders are going to be hard to find, they have been out of service for a long time and are very rare. The 82 pattern suspenders are very common and inexpensive. Any surplus store would likely to have them, I don't know what area you are in but Army Issue Surplus in Port Credit will likely have them and is a good guy to deal with.
