I buy tons of random Commons and Uncommons - just to look at the cards. I then donate them to my wife’s school - they have a Magic group. Sadly, the older cards usually don’t have a lot of value - except to collectors and those that love the old cards. There are lots of pauper cards and occasionally, a bomb. Always fun looking them up!

you have to just… get lucky, and know your stuff, sometimes. Take chances if you can. I’ve seen so many sellers on ebay who just don’t know or don’t care to know what they have recently I bought a lot of event decks, about 11-still had around $160 worth of cards in them, stuff like Parallel Lives and Dictate of Erebos. Paid about $70 I had also bought a $30 small lot, mostly tokens and what looked like box excess, but it came with a Vigor and all the other smaller, pricy cards added up-Skullclamp, Grafdigger’s Cage, etc if it looks like a bunch of commons and uncommons, it probably is unfortunately it’s like the lottery sometimes

Arena is great for learning; I suggest avoiding Alchemy if you want to learn to play regular Magic. I suggest starting with quick drafts to get gems, to use in player drafts. And then try playing standard ranked best of three to learn how to sideboard. Feel free to copy decks that you like and assemble them in arena.

My friend had a collection like this. One of my favourite things to do was just flip through it and find cards that never see the light of day(mwonvuli ooze). So while quite a few are under that 2$ threshold, know they are loved nonetheless.

What a fantastic buy! I like to buy bulk cards and random buys, but definitely don’t have the funds for a collection like this, so I just enjoy watching you do it. Haha! It’s fun for me to go through bulk because even commons and uncommons can have some value, and occasionally I’ll find a winner. The time isn’t worth the money for most people, but I think it’s fun. 😊

Break even total value from $1500 cost is $2400 (shipping and fees). Anything over that is profit. That’s buying 65% of market value of the cards. It’ll take a very long time selling this much.

When I sold the majority of my most recent collection it was at 70-80,000 cards which was way too much to go through on the weekly lol. I condensed my collection by 75%. Oddly I'm back up to about 10,000 cards which is still hefty to deal with. I just put everything into storage except one deck.

I got back into Magic around Amonkhet release, after my mini-album of rares burned in my classroom fire in 2001. Sometime after Ixalan was released, I ordered a min-collection for about $70 on eBay, and that kick-started my collector. Now I'm up to tens of thousands at least

Yeah, same way I organized my cards - made me a little sad, when he started to throw the cards randomly back in the box. I know what a lot of work it was to sort everything like this. Also it makes it really easy to find a specific card.

that's a long drive. I've done it many times 4 hours round trip to my wpn+ lgs for any prerelease I want to play in. living in the deep country has its benefits but it also has its downsides
