In this video I share a few thoughts that could change the way you try to develop your game.
Players want to learn the "right" technique so they don't develop bad habits. Ironically, I believe that players develop more bad habits by attempting to execute advanced technique that they can't fully execute.

Excellent! Great reminder to me that I can't rush it. Gotta do one step at a time - no skipping. Thank you!

I can honestly say youtube worked for me, not that I am now some amazing player, but I am so much better then I used to be technically. I also understand so much more - in the past when say my forehand sucked I didn't really understand why or how to fix it which was very frustrating. Now I am much better at understanding issues and at least knowing what to work on. I also enjoy the process - understanding and improving your techinique is rewarding - so obviously I am going to keep at it.

I’m not suggesting you don’t keep at it. Everyone’s got to choose appropriate things to work on, and understand that more advanced isn’t always the solution.

start by simple technique, make incremental adjustments and use the technique to achieve the goal; love it:) To add on it I would say (and you I think as well); learn to apply technique in a open situation so the receiving skills and sending skills grow in harmony. A while ago you made a video of the arthur ashe slice as a better model to learn th slice as the roger slice. Do you think you can say you can apply this concept to learning all strokes? Maybe not arthur ashe with the wooden racket and the continental grip for his groudstrokes but I would say eastern grip and a more guided swing with long hitting zone finishing over the shoulder would be a better example then extreme grip and whipping it in the other pocket;) Looking forward to your thoughts on this...?

What about being too worried about variety? I would like to mix up my spin on my forehand, but fear that just may cause issues. I haven't seen anything regarding variety on the forehand... Not just spin but also direction. Would be nice to know more than just technique on going with a heavy ball or going down the line... Rather hear what kinda variety might make sense to add first to a fledgling 4.0+ forehand and when.

Hi Tom! We all know that you have shot over the net once more than your opponent to win. But it would be better to do with some kind of propper technic. The worst habit I think is to go on court without taking any classes and without any technic at all. In this case you gabbidge your mussel memory and to reteach you will be much harder. Thanks

@@TomAllsoppyes, that pappens a lot. Funny, but sometimes you can hear" It will take several reps to understand". Not several but thouthands reps. Especially if we talk about serve. Your explanation of serve is very nice. Take care, Alex

I respectfully disagree. If you learn the correct way to play, you will be able to advance quickly. Case in point....junior tennis. Most juniors that are serious about tennis are taught the correct way week after week after week. However they DO listen.

So all these juniors are taught the correct way to play but I never see any of them play the “correct” way. Funny that. I think the coaches should start to listen at this point.
