Advice from a chronic hair dyer. I've been dying my hair for almost 30 years, and if you're going to go from box black to literally anything else, you will need to process tf out of your hair. Pulling out black box dye, in particular, is really challenging. Now, since you want to go to red, you won't need to lift your hair all that much because a copper base will naturally tone with red, but you probably still need to start with a color remover before you bleach. You HAVE TO STRAND TEST. I cannot emphasize that enough.

Love love love these hauls. I just need to tell you something … chances are you don’t have dandruff and it’s just dry scalp or product build up. Also, be careful with the head & shoulder shampoo and coloring your hair Red. The Head & Shoulder’s will strip the color out. It strips ALL color out, but red it turns it muddy. ❤❤

I’ve been dying my hair red since I was 11 lol. But I e tried other colors including box black and you’ll definitely need some processing to get that out of your hair before you go red. You could try letting the black fade out some and then try a stain type of dye instead of permanent, it’s less damaging, but stains can also be a pain to remove, unless of course you just cover it up with black again. But red is fun! It’s my favorite color I’ve ever tried (:
