I saw another race similar to rich strike but his horse went over hurtles more difficult and more challenging and that horse came from behind just like rich striker so I personally think he was the best horse and the jockey because he never used a whip like the jockey used on rich striker which I wasn't happy with him using the whip.

As an active duty Soldier (happily retired now), I was honored to watch a horse race while I was in California; however, it is my desire to go to the Kentucky Derby next year. I never realized how fast they ran until they allowed us active duty personnel to go down front to witness the race up close. I was AMAZED!! I am IN LOVE with this beautiful horse! He is a reminder to me, that when people count you out, you can ALWAYS come from behind and win! I CRIED...and I get GOOSEBUMPS every time I watch this clip!! CONGRATULATIONS, RICH STRIKE!!!

Here's something no one has talked about. If you watch the ground level view, not this overhead version you'll notice that Rich Strike is clearly looking directly at the other 2 horses left in front of him when he's coming up on them. There's no doubt he's watching them and then as he's over-taking them he looks back straight ahead and kicks it in gear. The race gave me and still gives me chills to watch but it gives me even more chills to watch this horse clearly watching the other two horses and almost laughing at them like "get ready, I'm about to blow you two away" and then does just that. Some argue whether these horses are athletes and I say this proves they know what's going on. It doesn't get any better than this race.

Leon was brilliant to take his 20 post position, to the rail, as quickly as he did. While the field, was running ahead in fast fractions, most of the horses were running the whole race 3 and 4 wide. Epicenter and Zandon had the perfect ride on the rail, but was caught up in the fast fractions. While Rich Strike chilled behind close to the rail. And turning for home, Rich Strike turned it on.

Rich Strike is at the beginning of his career having only raced 7 times previously. There is really no telling what he'll do. If he's getting better, which clearly he is as he just won the Kentucky Derby, he may win the Preakness and/or the Belmont depending on training and lack of injury. Seems his style and stamina could win the Belmont if he's not overworked in between. Personally, I don't think the angels flying with that horse will quit any time soon. Get your $ out folks.

@@montanawarren8462 well if they were on the ground and could use both hands they may have had a chance to do more and to get a lip chain on him, but to criticize them for this situation while on horseback is uncalled for. They didn't have any advance warning of how he was. If so, they probably would have had another person to help them on his other side. They are in close contact with thousands of horses a year and probably have not ever experienced one as bad as Rich Strike was, who put multiple bites on two horses and two people that day. @@suzanneyoung8011 but you know I ponied and outrode off my race horses (1 horse held the track record for a 1mile 70 at Centennial Park in Denver and the other horse win 30 races)to get stalls for them cuz I didn't race them at the track I was on and I sure couldn't screw my meal tickets up by letting some other horse bite them! I'm a little more overprotected in that respect but it looks to me like it was inexperience to begin with or just plain laziness or maybe the Irish trying to be in the Limelight with the Derby horse.... whatever, I guarantee they won't do it the next time they'll grab ahold of that SOB by the Bit & stick their forefinger into the outside of his mouth between his teeth and let him bite his own self! That stops all that bullshit!!!##!!!

It’s a damn shame Rich Strike didn’t run in the Preakness. If he wins the Belmont the owner and trainers will regret it forever.

I doubt they'll regret it. It's not like there haven't been two recent Triple Crown winners. They're doing what's best for the horse and I can't fault them for that.

What is stunning to me is that this guy John Moss try to discredit the horse simply because he dont have the right pedigree , he dont came from the right owner WITH OTHER WORDS HE DOTN BELONGS in rich men world....typical Nouveau Riche BS and hypocrisy

the father of rich strike is keen ice. the mother of rich strike is gold strike. they were both very good race horses. still cannot believe calumet farm put him in a $30,000 claiming race (his second race) as a 2 year old after finishing last the race prior (his first race). good for reed and dawson.
