A character doesn't need to be top tier to receive nerfs to individual tools that are broken. D3,4 should have ALWAYS been launch punishable. It historically always has been. Tekken 3, 4, 5, 6,7 and now 8. Hwo has JFSR, peacekeeper and the new tracking mid specifically to make people PAY for crouching in neutral. If I risk my WHOLE ASS to crouch and block D3,4 I SHOULD get a big reward. Yall were getting away with murder and in your heart, you know it 😂

hwoarang being top 20 or "mid" tier doesnt matter much because he is still a good character. tekken is surprising not too far from being balanced besides the very top 3 or 5 ig. A good hwoarang will still do good and honestly it seems his nerfs is only the end of the world to players who have been carried.

Hwo and Devil Jin got fucking shafted this patch. Both characters that are so overrated in terms of strength and they still get nerfed. Jin getting away with murder. Paul and Yoshi buffs are wild. And somehow Alisa hasnt been touched bro, like what the fuck. Crazy that this is their state for the next 6 months.

As a Hwoarang player, I honestly believe we would have gotten away from the D 3 4 nerf if we as a whole wasn’t throwing it out so freely and people constantly complaining about it. There might’ve been changes to Heat Dash mechanics on certain moves, but Lars actually got a buff on his 1,1,1 Heat Dash if the last 1 hits. He gets a free shoulder tackle (f1+4) after for damage and at the wall, he gets his wall combo.

Lars *technically* received a buff that allows his 1-1-1 heat dash combo to net him a F1+4, which is around 40-45 damage. Though if you can the wall break it can lead into a lot more, especially if you can save your tornado.

Kaz should be in jackpot lol. As a Kaz player, I never want to see another complaint about him again. Nasty ass character

I think hwo is like Honda in sf6. Bully’s in the lower ranks but is barely played in the higher ranks and usually gets clapped up there causing heavy polarization and balancing issues with the character.

Yoshi buffs to DGF options are cool. The Indian stance change is interesting, cause there doesn’t SEEM to be a lot going on from it. FCDF4 being +8 on hit leading to Indian stance 3+4 seems super good but it’s essentially the same as doing the low into ws4. Haven’t had a chance to see how much really gets affected. But interesting change overall.

Fortunately i have a few other alternatives for mains but even so the nerfs hwo got still irks me when he already wasn't overly performing to begin with it makes no sense. Oh well hopefully his buffs come in during S2 onwards next yr.

Raijin Hwoarang here, maybe it’s cause I’m not in the god ranks but i still feel like hwoarang is good character. Been a hwoarang main since TTT, not dropping him no matter what lol. I did feel like i was getting away with d34 being so reliable.

Changing Lee’s df+1 was weird but I’m feeling the lack of his low profile on HMS4 vs a couple moves now. Not very marvelous of them….but at least heat connects off WS2,3 lol.

12:41 idk Rangchu is a bear specialist. Specializing can take you a long way with characters and he even saw huge success in T7 with Panda when she was considered the worst (I think) But as you said, hes an amazing player as is and the bears are throwing it back on people

I don't hate hwo. I did when I first started because the pressure was NON STOP, and I think it's cuz kicks are easy to spam. And random mashing of 3 and 4 with random movement will just naturally create combos. Kinda annoying. But the solution to hating hwo is lowkeye to just learn how to play the game. at purple now, I get happy when I see hwo. I beat him pretty consistently. As a purple steve, the hwo has to be atleast fujin for me to worry. Now a tenryu king? Tenryu kazuya? I hate them.

It's kinda ironic that my best friend is a Hwoarang player and his first hated character was Paul during tekken 3 because his buddy always used to counter Hwoarang's kicks. As for me, I always struggled against the Hwarang fight, but that's because I just didn't dedicate the time to learn the match up better.

Xiaoyu actually got “nerfed” by the command throw changes. She has the backturn throw which can be cancelled and it used to be a mixup and now you can just step it.

As a hwo main, my dissapointment is immeasurable. Time to pick an alternative cos this nerf was too much.

I'd personally say high level Victor is in winners and low level Victor is in losers if that makes sense. He's definitely more fun to play now though!

As a Lee main, I am finally able to play my defensive style without the ever present threat of heat engagers beating every single option I have. I notice players respecting the rules of neutral more which makes my matches feel like less of an uphill battle. B+3+4/f,f+3 are still good counter hit tools. Overall he feels way more threatening because scrubs dont have their get out of jail free card with heat engagers. I can do hms3+4 or sidestep into acid rain. Im only orange rank, but I was holding my own against blues and purples. I still lose, but I can make gods bleed. Great patch overall. Nerf Dragunov more!

I believe Jin got away with murder because new players are coming in thanks to the praise of the new patch, (Which Murray/Harada knew would get), so they still need someone who is going to boost them and make them play/stay with Tekken more. If everyone was perfectly balanced given how difficult Tekken 8 in general a lot less would have the incentive to stay long enough to be part of Tekken's core base.

The reason hwoarang got nerf cause of usage rate. Read what the patch notes said. Paul got buff cause of his usage rate was to low. All they care about is the usage rate.

(especially the "d3,4 is fair and balanced now" one ) -yes, hwo is a high risk high reward character his literal gameplan is about reading or just gamble with your opponent, that means, he has a lot of counterplay on a lot of moves, even some of the powerfull ones, no excuses -hwo matchups are really easy to understand, if the opponent has any type of evasion move, almost 90% of those characters has an small or big advantage against hwo since he depends a lot on highs -d3,4 pre-patch punish is probably the most easy knowledge check on hwoarang, i'm not saying that the move it isn't annoying nor spammeable, but should be the first low on his kit someone should know how to punish (this is really important on high level) cuz it already was a launch punisheable move -d3,4 post-patch is just not a good nerf, im not against nerfing the move tbh, maybe less damage, maybe less + frames on hit, there are a lot of options, but as the current state of the game, leroy has a better d3,4 (on d3,2 i think) he still has mixup, u can punish his second hit if u're still ducking but the low doesn't stagger, so u don´t crouch for the second hit, so if u do a ws or stop blocking low u can still get hit by the high -the only thing that could make the argument of hwoarang being A tier pre-patch was is new neutral moves and better punish (+heat), cuz flamingo now is just really bad compared to t7 flamingo in general -the dev notes on hwo where almost a joke, reach on ws2,3? fk that, fix the damage on that thing, 58 max dmg without wall is just bad tl;dr: hwoarang is now bottom 10 or 5 even. Hwaorang is unfortunately a scrub killer character. Scrub killers always get nerfed regardless of objective power level.

Man, I don't mean to talk shit, but It is ludicrous to claim King was buffed this patch. The homing throw change is a massive nerf to a character that has poor tracking already. The chain throws weren't left untouched. All of the ones he actually uses, including out of CD, lost their tracking. The only throws that retained tracking were generics and chain throws nobody uses. Majin is right about the CD losing its crouching frames. That is a large nerf for the Mishima match-up especially. An easier wavedash is poor compensation when you have no real WD mix and you can be jabbed out of it. King also had his oki for f3, b3 and MB absolutely dumpstered. King's biggest buff this patch is the hitbox on his f4 now catching Ling's AoP. But that's about it. At this point, you'd struggle to make the case that T8 King is an improvement at all over T7 King.

Remove the buffs for paul and add back his rage art cancel or ub 2 homing ch launch property and we'll be talking, these paul buffs not even applicable for me haha.

Zafina is a big loser in the patch. She was already one of the weaker characters, yet she got nerfed... hard. The SCR.3 buff is useless since SCR.2 outclasses SCR.3. Zafina's already terrible ws punishment got significantly worse after the ws1,2 damage nerf. ws2 is still total garbage. Devil Jin, Raven, and Zafina are now The Three Stooges of *Tekken 8.*
