I don't understand this - Ted Roach got his bollocks roasted for drinking on duty and getting into a fight. ( Although admittedly, he didn't help his case by punching Inspector Monroe in the face ) .

On a practical level, drinking seems an odd practise for on-duty police officers, whatever the era. Aside from smelling of the stuff (making one less presentable to the public), wouldn’t it impact on the ability to attend calls, drive a vehicle, and work on cases?
