Before you guys talk like that, you need to understand the structure of the league (MLS). It's a hard cap league which means that teams have a limited amount of cash they can spend on players. So, to build a strong team around Messi is very difficult. Too many rules that hinder a team like Inter Miami to bring great players to play alongside Messi. The MLS just softened a few rules that will give teams more freedom to bring more players. I'm sure Inter Miami will take full advantage of that.

Relegation will kill the sport in American business model. No one will invest in teams if they have fear of relegation and losing income. 2nd tier soccer is almost ignored by fans. If this sport grows bigger and grassroots accepts it then maybe relegation/promotion will work.

@@sureshuprety1540 it might actually improve the model via a free market model approach, not a stale monopoly, it'll improve the content and excitement, more attention and more ads, more stakes --- there can be parachutes for relegated teams like the premier league to not go bankrupt.

I think Inter Miami is more interesting on making a profit on their investment with elite names instead of bringing young talent that would help the MLS and the international team. Making no substitution on the match with Monterrey gave it up for me it’s all about marketing.

I think it is a more inclusive sport, you realistically can't go pro in the nba or in the NFL if you're below 6'1-6'2 and you need to be heavy, soccer is more about skill than it is about height or weight.
