Could this be the work of the sneaky OSI Emil Laslo who was watching the Jamie & Alan through a pair of binoculars off-shore....?

Why? The girl has telekinesis. It kicks in when she sleeps. Subconsciously, she didn't want anyone taking her dead mom's place. It was cool for its time.
