The KZfaq audio is an unabridged reading of Anton Chekhov's short story, "The Bishop." The story revolves around an old bishop named Yoda, who attends a church service on Palm Sunday. During the service, he becomes tired and delirious, leading to a dream-like experience. Afterward, he returns to his monastery, where his mother, Marcia Timofeyevna, cares for him. The bishop's health deteriorates, and he eventually passes away. The story portrays the bishop's thoughts, regrets, and reflections on his life and faith. It also touches on the interactions between the bishop and various people, including the priests and his family. Throughout the narrative, Chekhov weaves a contemplative and reflective atmosphere, exploring themes of spirituality, mortality, and the passing of time.

Another great story ruined by amateur narration. The reader stumbled over his words so fast he offered no understanding of the material he was reading. I thought I had accidentally put it on double speed.

Many thanks! Yes, indeed, what you write about (accents, unprofessionalism, sometimes mispronounced words, terms, accents, tempo, intonation, etc.) is present; listeners often write about it in comments, sometimes very harshly or rudely. In my opinion, it is the performance of the LIBRIVOX storytellers that gives the works a unique charm. It creates a special intimacy, or vice versa :(, between the listener and the distant and unknown narrator. It makes us active, does not leave us indifferent, and encourages us to become a listener-fan or critic. Or to join the thousands of LIBRIVOX storytellers who give posterity and us in sound, the works of writers and their voices, make literature even more vivid and illustrated (the appearance draws not only the image of the person but also their voice).

Well said, Yes, I try not to be rude, I realise that criticism is hard enough to take by sensitive people and to deliver in such a damning way could be detrimental in ways we may never become aware of and it's nicer to be kind 🐦

It is not necessarily the case that a volunteer who does not have the qualities of a "vivid storyteller" should stop their work of giving back to forgotten literary works and their authors because of criticism. One must remember that volunteering is about giving back and making a positive impact, not about receiving praise or accolades. A volunteer contributes to preserving and promoting these literary works and authors despite not being the most vigorous storyteller.
