I wanted to directly comment this because I think it’s important to understand. To some people who are going through abuse or have been abused gypsy rose is a light of hope. To those that would question her idolization its simply a difference of privilege. I don’t mean to be rude but people who are more privileged socioeconomically and family wise could never really understand why someone would parade about gypsy rose. They see it as “glorification” or something horrible without understanding it’s a form of coping for less privileged individuals. No, I don’t think those with privilege are bad but I think when they don’t educate themselves it can send a harmful message.

I feel like the fact that they released an actual series on streaming sites about her case not too long ago has something to do with this warped vision people have of her, like when the Ted Bundy film with Zack Efron and the Jeffery Dahmer one with Evan Peters came out. Obviously the weird obsession and romantization of these real people already existed and it evolved with the renaissance of true crime content exploitation, but when these films came out it noticeably got way worse in a specific way: it allowed people to treat them like fictional characters from a story separated from the real people, to mythify them, and it went from being a kind of niche ocurence that you encountered in very specific circles to being mainstream, common ocurence.

As a childhood abuse victim, I have been so sad to see how Gypsy Rose has been treated by some people I respected on KZfaq. Her mother was a monster. The documentary showed that her next of kin was sent her ashes after she died and they flushed them down the toilet. That’s how evil that woman was. For any one of us to judge a single moment of joy or happiness that Gypsy Rose may get to have, is so sad to me. Her mother is gone, but she will always live under the shadow of the abuse she suffered so publicly because her mom used her to get things.
@floorvisscher8164
@floorvisscher8164 5 ай бұрын
The way Gypsy is treated is almost reminiscent of the way that in the Hunger Games the people in the Capitol supported their favorite tributes. They don't actually care what happens to the object of their affections, they just view it as a source of entertainment. Definitely empathising, but in the way you would with a beloved book or movie character. They see her as an object, not a person, and the fact that this is so normalized is absolutely dystopian.
@ladycaticorn2950
@ladycaticorn2950 5 ай бұрын
Such a good point. I also think the treatment of Gypsy is misogynistic. She is being infatilized, dismissed, and sexualized all at once despite the fact she endured horrific abuse, organized a murder, and went to prison. Let the poor woman have some peace so she can adjust to life free from confinement. It's so disgusting that people have lost sight of her humanity and at the same time seem to think that what she and her ex-bf did wasn't real or a big deal. This is a complicated, messy tragedy. This is not a YA novel.

She seems like a sweet girl, I feel heart broken for what she went through, this girl was stunted and abused and a prisoner for her entire life until she was caught after the “ending” of her mother. I understand her fascination with social media, in her eyes the internet basically saved her life. Her getting this attention is dangerous though. It’s also sad. What I DONT understand is all the attention she’s getting now, it feels dangerous to her mental health. This girl needs years and years more therapy, and at the end of the day she was involved with something horrific (although I understand why) but it just feels ghoulish. I think she needs support and forgiveness and love, she doesn’t need celebrity.

What I think was missed here is that the reason Gypsy wants to be out here and speak isn't for promotion or fame but because she wants to spread hope to peope in her situation and say there is a way forward, just not how she did it. But she's having to actively fight against the people interviewing her to spread that message. Also, in her interviews she talks about how much she regrets it and her relationship with her mother was complicated; even though she put her through hell she still loves her and her memory. She's obviously a sweet girl who can laugh things off easily to keep the peace hearing strangers make jokes about your mother's murder has to be incredibly hurtful, even if you were part of it.

This was probably one of the best view points I've seen so far. Although, it most certainly seems like she is seeking a media circus. She's been lied to and manipulated her entire life, she was also taught how to lie, steal and manipulate her entire life. Her entire life has been a media tour, she was often in TV and in interviews as a child to show how "strong she was to have all these aliments and still be strong and smiling and moving forward how much strength she and her mother showed in the face of some of the hardest medical diagnosis people have seen from a child" She honestly probably doesn't even understand that she is seeking media attention bc this has been the go to from her mother to earn fame, sympathy, money ECT. It's all she knows. She is repeating history just in a different light now. You can see her therapy work is paying off, her responses are that of therapy work "what I did was wrong, but I didn't actually do the act, taking responsibility for my part in this" She did what she was taught, she manipulated a mentally ill man into committing murder for her bc she couldn't do it herself, it is still her fault her mother is dead bc she brought this idea to light she asked for it she planned it she carried through with that action. No she didn't hold the knife but she is very much culpable for her mother's demise no matter how much abuse she delt with those actions were hers. She is trying in the way she knows how to take accountability for those actions and so many are blowing it off and only further deepening her delusions of this not being her actions, her fault, her idea. She served the time the judge decided to give her, she's obviously working on herself very hard and attempting to move forward in the way she knows how to. Having her husband as a support system probably is very comforting for her as she has never had to be independent, she has never been alone. Her mom insured she had no way of understanding how to ever be independent, so I am sure she has a lot of co dependent attributes to overcome in her future. The world watched her horrific childhood unfold through a drama docuseries, the whole truth the entire nightmare of that reality wasn't portrayed and probably never will be, so the world fell in love with the child version that is known as an abused kid gypsy rose. She most likely did think the only way out was this way, and obviously has learned that even still it wasn't the right way. I think the world should allow her to move forward, she can absolutely go to school further her education get a job and move forward. The media circus that is her life right now is only imo furthering her childhood trauma of having to be camera ready to show the world a side of you that they need and want to see. This is only going to further guide her into regression of her therapy work, by doing the exact same thing her mother did to her. Put her on TV, showcase her life, sign anything that will get her more fame more money more attention. Hopefully in time she can come to an understanding that her and her husband should just live their lives and that the world has no rights to her, she isn't owned anymore she doesn't have to put on a show she can be finally free for the first time in her whole life. I sympathize with the victim aspect of Gypsy Rose, I do not support or condone glamorizing a person who was the reason a murder was committed. If the media would stick to the narrative she is very much trying to show that what she did was wrong, she doesn't hate her mother, she wishes she didn't commit this crime and doesn't want to push that as there may very much be a young child at home in a similar situation as her they may see how many are Washing her terrible actions aside and praising her for it instead, they may to believe that they can do the same. I see she is trying so hard not to push it in this way but the media is not helping at all with it.

Gypsy Rose has had a life filled with traumas and tragedy. It's horrifying and disgusting how people on social media encouraged her to step into the spotlight, (let's chew her up and spit her out) instead of taking some time (more than a minute for beejesus sake) to get her head straight and learn how to have a life. I fear this is going to lead to further trauma for Gypsy. Given her life experiences so far, she needs intense therapy and loving support from people who truly care about her to help her adjust. I give Gypsy some leeway; she was tortured by an evil monster for most of her life and doesn't really know how to tell what real love is (in my opionion)...she is getting attention (the wrong kind) from millions right now and is lapping it up. I really worry about her future in the spotlight. Her mom abused her in order to gain recognition and fame, so Gyspy already has a really unhealthy relationship with being in the spotlight and I can’t imagine going from abuse, to prison, to immediately back in the spotlight could do anything positive for her

It’s fun how in every thumbnail cooper can’t look serious, ever. He just looks so silly everytime. It’s like a kitten trying to seem angry, it just doesn’t work, and ends up looking silly

She honestly seems like a sweet person, how she was smiling in that video while that guy is awkwardly rapping Nicki lyrics to her. Like she seems to be handling all of this very well despite all the trauma and weirdness going on.

The husband chased her when all he knew of her is she was a young victim of extreme abuse. He will always be a predator to me. A person can't enter a sexual relationship when all they know is the person is in dire circumstances like that...

Chased her? All he did was email her and give her sympathy and she decided to write back 💀 the real predator is the guy that's still in prison, dude

Most of all I just hope Gypsy is getting support and therapy. Her life hasnt been easy; her childhood, going to prison (which is an AWFUL traumatizing place), getting out and becoming an instant celebrity, all of that is a lot for a young woman. So I really hope she has the support she needs. I also feel it's incredibly unfair for Nick to be in prison for life. Man it's just not fair to lock people up and expect that to solve anything.

Gypsy Rose doesnt realize shes being used as " Content" . She has no idea the extent of Social Media. Gypsy plays along like she does but she actually doesnt.

The annoying thing is that the whole reason she’s active on social media is to spread awareness and advocating for people who were or are in situations like she was in! And no one is truly acknowledging it! ! It’s both upsetting and disappointing.

The meme-ification of literally everything is kinda dystopian. and That E! News interview was unhinged. Also the only reason people say he looks like her mom is because he's fat and fatphobia is ubiquitous. you can't convince me otherwise.

I can't even imagine how hard it must have been for Gypsy Rose to go through all that, just to get out of prison and become a meme for the internet. Like, she's been used her whole life to make others feel good about themselves. It's just sad.

I’m so glad to hear you say this stuff. This is the first gypsy video I’ve seen since she’s been out. Because it’s her life. It felt so weird the way it was like a movie premiere when she was getting out of pregnant. And the way ppl online just say whatever the f they want. It’s sucks. We need some sort of accountability somehow

THANK YOU for being the first normal person I’ve seen online to react this way. I honestly don’t get how the public knows the horror she went through, yet not take it as seriously. 😭 it’s so bizarre to me! Her life will never be normal and I truly wish her the best as she heals.
