When it came to title the record, Strnad looked around at the scene he has helped nourish for two decades and found his inspiration. "We, members of our beloved and hidden world of the heavy metal underground teeming just below the surface, are the verminous. The rats and roaches looming in the cracks and crevices of this fallen world. We are the pariahs that the world of normality finds loathsome and obscene. We are the carriers of a plague of knowledge so vile that it could bring the unsuspecting mankind to its knees. Always the underdogs. Our love for this music and what it means to our lives is foolishly underestimated." This ties into the lyrical themes that permeate the record, though not exclusively, Strnad not struggling to find subject matter that engaged him. "The outside world of religion-warped 'normalcy' is the opposing viewpoint. We are the ultimate antagonist to their archaic ways of thought, the dreamers of the nightmares that shake them to their very core. Although we are but lowly vermin to them, the unseen and underestimated, our numbers are millions strong. We cast aside their ways and prefer to take solace in the hidden realm of the underground where the dark fruits of free thought can be enjoyed. We are our own Gods. The responsibility of our actions is ours alone." In his position, he is also able to both provide listeners with opportunities to exorcise compulsions toward exploring dark themes and find some personal release. "Not unlike the appeal of a horror movie, there is a curiously dark side in all of us that can enjoy the occasional gaze through the eyes of the all-powerful masked killer. I enjoy taking the listener on such a ride. There is a certain catharsis in putting myself into the heart of each character I create. Where I lack power in my life, I channel it in my creations."

What's initially so striking is Trevor exploring new corners of his vocal range. So many flavors on display here. Child of Night is the standout for me, and its solo is my favorite. Brandon is so expressive and that tempo suits his style, and I agree that his contributions to the direction of this record are readily apparent.
@gregoryhan16
@gregoryhan16 4 жыл бұрын
I've always liked how he has that consistent great high scream mixed with the acceptable and sufficient low. The low has the faint tone of the 2000's era hardcore style low and it's great. It takes you out of the whole death thing for a bit and puts you into a metalcore mood. Makes sense, as they used to tour with a bunch of metalcore bands at metalcore shows. I had a pretty good vocal range myself, and with the right mic I could do a fry that sounds sufficiently high (kind of like the high version of his low). Never really got a chance to explore it though.

My first listen I noticed they lifted a lyric from one of my fav hardcore bands, Indecision: "No heaven, no hell, no here, no now". Mad respect for having such a multifaceted musical taste. The song that came from, which I highly recommend, is Purgatory. I read an interview with them where Trevor talked about his love for Indecision. A few years ago even talked about an EMO band him and I both loved, Elliott. Their album 'False Cathedrals' is a masterpiece.

TBDM's guitar work has changed so much since bringing in Brandon Ellis, they use more of a thrashy sound nowadays it seems, its a great sound but I like the guitar work they did before "Nightbringers" a bit better. Verminous and Nightbringers are some super cool badasseries tho. But The album's before that are a collection of way awesome radical ultra killer guitar riffs. I wish I could play guitar with these guys. Brian is a rhythm master.

Dawn of rats has to lyrically be the best one to me, I’m a long long time TBDM fan, but I’m a human effected by real world things in life so it’s nice to see a song that isn’t focused on the rape or on the destruction of an innocent, rather the destruction and execution morbidly of an evil doer to the innocent, I feel there is a vast frame work of amazing lyrical content in which the writer is talking more of a handing out dark justice to evil people rather then the focus being the evil happening to innocent. I digress as in my younger years being fascinated by gore lyrics and it’s intense nature. But then life actually happens to you, yo see some real fucked yo shit and have to be involved in some bad bad things, and on the other side you just want everyone to be safe and happy, so this was a really amazing nice song and change of pace kinda rooting for those fans who love the music and the band but maybe don’t listen to everything they put out cuz maybe it’s really real for some people. All and all it’s music and it’s not real but the music they do make is amazing and real to me, so it’s a intense balance, this album made that so easy and amazing to listen to! Thank you TBDM! From a veteran with a real fucked up life I thank you guys! 🤘🏻

Great to read your comment Bro, i think the exact same. I hate to see that death metal lyrics are, in mayor cases, about gore and violence per se. WTF? Come on people, the world its a very sh**t place to be creating more and more violence. Lets talk about what is happening out there, we are killing each other. The rich people is super rich and we cant even afford rent. That is wy i love Death las years, Chuck understood tis and started talking about philosophy, life and the world that sorrounds us. I would love to see more Death MEtal bands talking and thinking about the world we live in, just like Napalm DEath does, eventhough they are a more grindy band.

Nicolás Gabriel Perlini 100% I do though know and respect that extreme metal is that in fact the horror content which is cool so it’s not like I’m coming into a room that says this through this door is fucked up shit go at your own risk then complaining when I’m in the room, what has personally affected me cannot have an effect on someone’s creativity, I also understand it’s TBDM trademark to lyrically speak through the mind and mouth of the evil doer which is dope, I’m just saying personally it was nice to see them do it in a way that like a Anti hero the rats had become an anti hero like what I think all people like Trevor said the underworld we subscribe to, we are affected or attracted to dark corners of our minds for a similar reason thus we ourselves feel connected at least I do to the anti hero identity, like dawn of rats is about a molesting priest getting what he truly deserves in retribution to the raped, that’s fucking anti hero glory right there, and it hits all my favorite marks still mitigating the evil doer and all that jazz but it was for a just cause lmao 😂 the human mind is an enigma but I really enjoyed that story! Thank you guys!

@@juansakura2868 That's a very pretentious, solipsist viewpoint. You make it seem as if they created the violence they have simply observed. If you set aside your fragilities; you would see past the gratuity and understand that they are evoking thought unto hidden, macabre facets of reality. The Window is an extremely vile, vulgar song about youth violated, but beyond that, it depicts the heinous deviancy of Gilles De Rais and contradicts the delusions of the idealistic. The song Receipt is about suicide and carries the same purpose; to make apparent the fact that the world is far from perfect. How can one merely champion philosophy when atrocity exists? Do you not proliferate, consume, and destroy? If you can't see the "life" in the lyrics, you should try roaming past your sensitivities and broadening your scope. It is unfair that you judge others as limited, whilst peering through a narrow bias of cognition.

The Wereworm's Feast is one of my favorite TBDM tracks ever made and that's from someone who has been aboard since Miasma. Verminous is a way more potent release than Abysmal and even Nightbringers IMO. I absolutely agree man. Ritual has been their high-mark for me ever since it released. But this album comes damn close to dethroning it...I think there are some better songs on Verminous, but I think overall Ritual still takes it. Still don't know how I feel about this album. On the one hand, it's the new album from my favourite mdm band (haven't missed a single release since Unhallowed) and I enjoy the experiments and changes the band implement. On the other hand, the solo parts are weaker comparing to those from Nightbringers (still awesome though and Sunless Empire's one is a masterpiece), less memorable riffs, just chords with melismatic ornaments. Listened to it 5 or 6 times, maybe it needs more time to dig.
