I was hoping you two would react to this movie. It's one of my favs. FUN FACT: This was the 1st movie the young actor who played Finney had ever done. He had no prior acting experience except a tv series where he was on just 3 episodes. Director Scott Derrickson said in an interview that the boy had no prior movie experience but he was so impressed with the boy's audition, he decided to take a chance on him and what a great decision because the kid was incredible. Also, Ethan Hawke surprised me on how chillingly evil he was. He gave me the creeps which shows he did his job well. The movie was so well done.

@@lynni_111 Really? There are people who don't like it? I haven't seen anyone actually saying they didn't like it and if there are people that don't like it, I don't know why because the movie is so well made, the acting from everyone is amazing and it's got such a exciting, cathartic ending. I'm happy you find this movie as one of your favorites because so do I. :)

I like the fact that you said immediately that Finney was also psychic like Gwen. A lot of people don’t pick that up! Also people say that Gwen (her dreams) didn’t helped Finney because Jesus knew that he was able to get out alone but the police wouldn’t have find the bodies of the other kids

When I first saw this movie, I was so amazed and I analyzed it further. So basically, Finn did not know but he ALSO had abilities. His sister had visions whereas Finn could communicate with the dead. That’s why the grabber or the previous kids NEVER heard the phone ring and it was broken. So, their mom most likely was psychic (passed them the gifts) and the father exclaimed that the mom was “different” but he was afraid to say it as it led to her downfall as well. He didn’t say anything until Gwen started using her gifts more openly. Also, I LOVED the fact that Gwen's visions did not lead her and the cops straight to Finn. HERE IS WHY! It is almost like Gwen's visions KNEW he was going to be OKAY (which he was in the end) and so her visions focused mainly on FINDING THE CHILDREN who were unalived by the grabber which their parents needed DEFINITE closure. This is what I found so fascinating about the movie and when you think about it everyone knows psychic visions may be valid but are not always 100% accurate. That is something you hear commonly because visions always change according to predicaments and situations around the vision. The future is never SET in stone remember? I feel like Gwen wanting to find Finn was focused so much on her because that is her brother (so out of familial care). However, her gift is a gift which is for doing the GREATER GOOD. In this case, it was not AS MUCH about finding Finn …it was about leading her to all the missing children that the cops could not solve themselves. This also made enough room for the audience to understand that her vision with this case was to help those parents looking for their kids get CLOSURE as I mentioned earlier. When you think about it, it really takes a moment for you to be like oh wow it makes more sense that way. I also feel like they wanted the movie to also have more realistic elements to it because I mean even in real life psychics do exist and vision error is a thing but sometimes it is the best kind of error. If Gwen only found Finn then where would that closure be for the families who wanted to desperately find and know the whereabouts of their missing children. That’s how you know her visions were more for the GREATER good. Lastly, when it comes to the dad, I read that people believed the dad was not abusive just to be abusive but because he wanted to SAVE Gwen from the same fate their mom ended up in. However, I still do not believe in beating kids nor do I believe that he was the best father (alcoholic parents always a no-no) but one may truly speculate MAYBE he was doing the best thing for her which we know that is what HE THOUGHT but Gwen still has a gift regardless and it helped her solve these heinous crimes . Now psychologically I thought about something I have learned in previous psych classes as a psych major. There is something in psychology called reinforcement and punishers. In this case, a PUNISHER is a consequence that makes a behavior less likely in the future. In this case I would apply the theory about the punisher in the fact that the dad beating Gwen and making her say ALOUD that her “dreams are just dreams” were associated with the pain of the belt and her distress from being beat so everytime she had the dreams she'd be conditioned and inclined not to so to save her from herself.

A lot of people get frustrated with Finn not finding or creating a weapon, but the whole beginning of the movie shows you Finn is not a fighter in the typical sense. The other kids who were more fighters in a traditional sense (more physical & vocal) didn't stand a chance against The Grabber, who is bigger & stronger. Finn would have to guarantee that he could take the guy down in one shot. Looking for a knife in the drawer, right next to where The Grabber is dozing in a chair?~ He would've had to be quieter than he was at the door. The broken bottle? Again, would have to guarantee a deep and/or major wound in one shot, and even that might not take him down right away depending. Break the toilet seat lid? Heavy & slow; The Grabber would probably just grab it, if Finn couldn't manage to surprise him. The spaceship pen? Wasn't fatal the first time. Etc.

Very good points. And people are forgetting that Finney is a child and it's hard for even an adult to commit a murder when they have an option to just try and escape, so how do they expect a 13yr. old boy to commit murder when he could choose running away and hopefully getting to safety without being traumatized that he killed someone? Yes, in the end, Finney had no choice and was forced to kill The Grabber but he had no way of getting out then, whereas in the 'unlocking the door scene', he did have a way out. I'd like to ask all those people, who are frustrated with Finney, if they were in Finney's shoes and had a way to get out without killing someone, it they would have killed the person anyway or choose just trying to get out? I bet you most of them would choose the later. It's easy to say "kill him" when they aren't faced with that situation but I bet they'd rethink it if they were.

@@seulk7527 Exactly. Tiny 13yr. old Finney against the strong-built adult man The Grabber was definitely not going to end well for Finney if he was to try and kill him when he was trying to escape. The only reason why Finney had an advantage at the end is because he tripped The Grabber into the hole and broke his angle and The Grabber was then below Finney's height where Finney was then able to beat him with the phone and The Grabber couldn't move out of the way much. Otherwise Finney would have been yet another victim of The Grabber, unfortunately.

@@seulk7527 Could very well be. Like you said, maybe Griffin (that was his name) got a knife and The Grabber woke up just before Griffin was going to kill him and The Grabber took the knife out of Griffen's hand and killed him instead. So thank God Finney was smart enough not to try that approach.

When you told Finney to get in there and help his sister when she was being whipped, to be fair, you have to realize that these are two abused kids and they handled their abuse differently. Gwen acted out by being a tough spitfire with a potty mouth, whereas Finney was timid and seemed afraid of his own shadow. When he was bullied at home and at school, he never stood up for himself so it would have been out of character for him to stand up for his sister, even though you can tell he wanted to so badly. It was only after he had to be forced to stand up for himself or be killed by The Grabber, that he finally found the courage to do so and Robin's pep-talk speech helped, as well.

Hahaha. I LOVED your reactions and commentary to this film. I saw it last year and thought it was the best movie of 2022, that's how impressed I was by it. It's original in that it isn't the usual gory, horror film but instead a horror thriller with supernatural elements and it pulled at your heartstrings. It's not often that I scream at the screen and cheer and clap in the end of a horror movie and feel so much victory. It had a good moral story too. It showed a bullied boy who never stood up for himself but when faced with a horrific situation, he finally found the courage to stand up for himself and put an end to The Grabber. Such a rewarding ending and the chemistry between the two actors that played the brother and sister was incredible. You really believed their strong sibling bond and it added to the emotion of the story. So glad you both enjoyed it so much. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your video.

This movie creeped me out bigtime and made me so scared the whole time. Especially being a mother. Also it's not confirmed why the Grabber is broken. Whether it was due to his own child abuse OR if he had a normal childhood & still ended up broken (Which is even scarier, when you think about it). It's not confirmed because like Ethan Hawke said himself, "because it doesn't matter why he's broken, what matters is he IS broken." The movie shows the Grabber was a sick paedophile that murders his victims after they play his "naughty boy" game. They made a few subtle signs to show what he was, hence why he was shirtless, & why one victim mentions the grabbers "favourite" part of naughty boy etc. Also noticed that the Grabber did, in fact pick certain types of kids. The Grabber only picks boys and notice how they all have long hair, that he can play with.😖 Also guys, the next part of naughty boy is probably rape not killing them, since the victim mentioned it being his "favourite" part.

To the people saying that Finney should have a used a weapon or got a knife in the kitchen etc, I think they have forgotten what it's like to be a kid. Most kids are innocent and don't want to hurt anyone - the thought wouldn't even enter their mind. I can remember back in Primary School we had a police detective come visit and talk about drugs and stranger danger etc, and one of the things we talked about was what we should do if we were dragged into a car. I can vividly remember us asking and being shocked when he told us to do anything, kick, scream, bite, hit em in the balls etc. We were all amazed that we would't get in trouble. That's what we were worried about in our naivety - getting in trouble.
