What separates you from other content creators is a great ability to mentor. Thank you for your honesty and thoroughness. I've decided to pursue learning web development on my own after realizing that most of the information and educational resources are available for a fraction of the price that many of these sketchily run companies are charging. Fortunately, I bailed out of a startup that charged 27k for getting users on board with a career in web development. It just made me raise an eyebrow at the whole thing.

Hello Travis! I just wanted to thank you for this detailed roadmap. I had already started the Angela web development course around a week ago (October 26th ish 2022) so I was just so happy that this is the course you mentioned. I'm giving myself a bit more than 6 months (8 months) to learn these skills and make unique solid projects. After I'm done doing this I will enroll back to school for my computer science degree and apply right away for software engineer internships. Not only will I have learned modern technologies but also have a good resume which will give me an advantage (I hope) in applying for these positions. I'll come back around June/July of 2023 to update to see where I'm at in terms of internships or if I got a web development job. Writing this on November 5th 3:30am.

In relation to the recommended course, I took it and thoroughly enjoyed my time learning Dr. Yu's teaching style & course content. However, it is severely outdated. The content on HTML, CSS and JavaScript is good enough. She even touches on the basics of React. But the backend content (Node.JS, Express, MongdoDB) is not even worth going through. My suggestion is do the course for the frontend technologies, but look elsewhere for backend. Nonetheless, great video Travis.

Hey Travis! I understand that front end development is one of the most entry level positions in the field. With that said, that’s what I want to do first just to finally make the big career change and get real world experience to eventually become a full stack developer. My first coding language was Python, and I’ve recently just bought Angela Yu’s 100 days of code Python course, and I’m two weeks in. I hope I didn’t make a big hiccup by not picking her full stack development course and learning JavaScript first. Did I make a mistake? I kinda feel like I’m in the early stages of just learning coding logic, and considering Python is such an easy language to understand, regardless this will help me use this coding logic toward other languages in the long run. What do you think?

Hi Travis, Great vid! Should i start off with AWS and learn Python alongside that as you said in your last vid on how to become a developer, or follow this blueprint?
@TravisMedia
@TravisMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amarion! It depends really on your current skillset and your interest in this pursuit. Have you done any web development. If so, do you enjoy it? Then go that route. Do you think you would like cloud computing, virtual servers, automation, etc alongside of a programming language like Python? Then you could go that route. I would suggest going the path that you think (or know) would be more exiciting for you. Either way you get to do programming and write code. But would you prefer web apps/websites or cloud development? Does that help? And thanks for the comment!

Hi Travis, how are u?! First of all, thanks for your content. So... when it comes to react what should I do about state management?! I'm kind confuse about context / redux / redux tool kit. Thanks again and wish you the best.
@TravisMedia
@TravisMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alan! I would start off passing props and not using state management. Do that for a while until you clearly see the annoyance of having to pass props all over the place to children and grandchildren etc components. Then learn Context first to ease the above problem and as a state management solution. Finally, last of all, learn Redux. It's a whole separate beast and oftentimes in projects isn't even needed though people insist on having it. But it is used a lot so will have to learn it but do it last. Hope that helps!

However what we need to take into consideration is this is a full stack developer course with a massive amount of content. I feel that there are some topics which she should explore deeper. For example there is only a couple of hours of JavaScript. So she provides a good template but I do feel other courses and materials will be needed to supplement her course. I'm a teacher in programming. I don't really like web because of Javascript: an unsecure LISP with an ugly syntax. Worse, node.js is another a-principle-driven-into-the-absurd language, like f.ex. Java: in node.js's case it is parallelism even when it is not needed. I'm sitting listening to this praise-of-the-stupid in order to understand what tools people work with. I recommend React *and* Angular. They're trying to correct the wrongs-and-stupids of the web. First learn HTML, CSS and effing JavaScript though, but don't follow Udemy! Instead follow free and gratis w3schools and then start to experiment. w3schools supports experimentation.

@@VALLANCEGAMING Got through most of the front end sections aside from the react section.. To be honest you really need a separate course for react because unfortunately its a little out of date as most people don't use class base anymore for react.. The 'big' project is incredibly lacking/ boring but the course is definitely worth it on a good sale just for learning frontend vanilla javascript. To be honest it doesn't matter which course you get because most likely both course will cover vanilla javascript css and html relatively well.. I would probably lean towards Angela course as there are many more fun 'mini' projects but if you are thinking of becoming a full stack developer, I'll probably get two additional courses, one focus on react and the other on backend.
